I read a bit on this and apparently there's such a thing called the passive test. However, and now this might not make any sense, but can't a foot be a modifier of in front of me, which means because it's not a core element A foot in front of me can barely be seen isn't sufficient?

On second thought, I think I have it all wrong and mixed up. Let me ask a more basic question first: What's the function of in front of me in I can barely see in front of me? For some reason I thought a PP couldn't be an object, but why not.
