@DamkerngT. thank u DT.

I'm happy for you!
BTW, I just ran into a video where a native speaker keeps pronouncing wi-fi rhyming with wiki!

Q: A comparison between the verbs: "attain, "achieve", obtain", "acquire" and "gain"

A-friendPlease suppose an employee has proved himself as a very valuable and hardworking talent in a particular field such as computer networking within his 5-year presence at a company. Because of some reasons, he decides to quit the team. When it comes to say goodbye, the boss calls him and says: ...

Hmm... I don't know if this is a really good question.
Well, I'd better let others decide.

@DamkerngT. I agree - I don't think it lends itself to an interesting answer. But I can't cast a non-binding vote.
@DamkerngT. I can't blame them if they have only read it and not heard it spoken. I read a lot of books that were advanced for my age and I would make lots of mistakes like that... the word omnipotent comes to mind.
I never really did learn how to use the dictionary for pronunciation, and now I have no reason to because there are sound files on the Internet ;)
We have a bunch of conflicting pronunciations at work for acronyms and initialisms we use, like LIFFE and OPRA
Some people pronounce LIFFE /laɪf/ but there's two 'F's in there! it's got two syllables damnit! /lɪfi/
Some people pronounce OPRA /ˈəʊprə/ but that would be Oprah. I think it should be /ˈɒprə/

Q: Restore deleted account or reputation from delelted account

LnuxI've checked the post related to my issue but I think deleted account can't be restored. I've also see this post but the solution is provided for stackoverflow. Is it possible for this community? I've joined this community with same email id that i joined earlier.

Hey
Is it right to say:
"I went over the file and it seems good"
Thanks in advance
09:31
@Segev What do you want to convey? The sentence is grammatical but I don't know if it makes sense
@M.A.R. I want to say that i checked (read) the file and it seems good.
@Segev Then say that instead
'I went over something' is like jumping over it
I'm not sure you can jump over the file.
@M.A.R. I mean like "go over" in past
You can go over to some place too, but that's like standing up and walking towards somewhere distant
@Segev Being in past doesn't change the meaning of a verb
10:10
I want to share my experience with you (a)/ though you will (b)/ benefit from it. (c)/ No error (d)
I want to share my experience with you (a)/ though you will (b)/ benefit from it. (c)/ No error (d) @M.A.R. @DamkerngT.
Weird
I'm not sure what the supposedly correct alternative of this sentence is supposed to mean.
Answer says B
Yeah, b) is probably the most problematic part, but mostly because the sentence seems to try to join part a) and part c) with a conjunction or something. I don't think it really works, though.
So, I have no idea what the supposedly corrected sentence would look like.
I agree.
@M.A.R. Go over in this sense is fine.
Basically, it's like flipping through the pages, reading it, and thinking about it.
@Segev It's not wrong (or incorrect), but it seems good, hmm..., how often do we say that? (Except in InE)
I don't know. I don't think your sentence is wrong, anyway.
@ColleenV Nice examples! LIFFE and OPRA
He seems to be a nice guy and knows a lot about what he is doing, though. It's just that his pronunciation is somewhat, hmm..., what should I say? unique, perhaps.
I'm not sure where he's from, but maybe somewhere in England. His vowels shift from the accents I'm familiar with quite a bit. For example, he pronounces ways almost like wife (and Google automatic transcription agrees with me)!

@M.A.R. You can go over a document.. "Hey, when you have a few minutes I want to go over last week's report. There were some things that seemed strange."
or "I went over the code a hundred times and didn't find any bugs."
@user62015 I want to share my experience with you so you will benefit from it.
Thanks.

@ColleenV A-ha! Though vs. so! It's funny! Hahaha! :-)

@DamkerngT. Thanks!
No problem!
@CowperKettle Nah, singular is fine

@Cowp welcome back!

The Russian Parliament will discuss a draft law under which sites operated by Google and Facebook could be "slowed down" because they fail to disclose all information about their users to the FSB
They wanted to just ban them, but now they will try to make the pages load ultra-slow
I already use a proxy to get to LinkedIn
Not a month without some cheery news in Russia
I will have to actually work if Facebook is slowed down
@CowperKettle This is the worst news
@ColleenV It isn't fair that you can edit messages from a lot of minutes ago

@M.A.R. :) If I make a mistake with a diamond next to my name it's worse than if I didn't have a diamond. I would edit your messages for you if you asked me to
I wouldn't have bothered with my typo, except someone went and pinned it...

I read it too.
We look first at the role that (a)/ innovation has always played as the driver of economic growth, (b)/ and at its relationship with finance. (c)/No error(d) @M.A.R. @DamkerngT. @ColleenV

Q: Is "to" refers to future event

user178049I stuck at page 338, Longman Student Grammar of Spoken and Written English. Here's an excerpt, Certainty adjective controlling subject-to-subject raising 1.[The government] is unlikely to meet the full cost. . . . This meaning relationship becomes explicit if we paraphrase the struc...

Anyone have the book?
I think the OP must've made some mistakes while copying the text or maybe they stripped some texts out.
15:02
@DamkerngT. Of course they have; the original sentence reads: "That the government will meet the full cost is unlikely."
15:17
@userr2684291 Thanks!
The OP has already fixed it. Yay!
@DamkerngT. No worries, it took me about 30 seconds to download that book, lol.
Hahaha!
I mean... go to the bookstore and buy it. Damn autocorrect.
@DamkerngT. How's it going? (:
15:19
It's going okay.
A bit downside is that I wanted to order something they don't ship here today.
I know the feeling.
pats each other's back...
Haha.
ell.stackexchange.com/tags/aspect/info "at Wikipedia, at the Grammatical Features website,and at the Council of Applied Linguists & Language Educators website" – should it not have read "on" instead of "at"?
15:28
Either works, I think.
On is a bit conventional, but at is fine as well, if we think of it as an address (and a URL is indeed one).
@DamkerngT. Right, right.
"At https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammatical_aspect" definitely works.
Ugh.
How do I enclose a single space in backticks?
Hmm...
Oh, you did it! Yay!
I didn't.

@userr2684291 That's exactly why comments have to be 15 characters long
@M.A.R. Ditto.

Pi Day is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π (pi). Pi Day is observed on March 14 (3/14 in the month/day date format) since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant digits of π. In 2009, the United States House of Representatives supported the designation of Pi Day. Pi Approximation Day is observed on July 22 (22/7 in the day/month date format), since the fraction  22⁄7 is a common approximation of π, which is accurate to two decimal places and dates from Archimedes. == History == The earliest known official or large-scale celebration of Pi Day was organized by Larry Shaw in...
(Day of the day?)
I guess.
We were, or rather they were, talking about it in ELU chat
@M.A.R. Ah.
I guess you could say they pioneered it. :>

A: The exact sense and origin of "to stick it to someone"
