"There is a large shaded area bordered by writing on the top and bottom. " Is the sentence correct? What's "writing" here, a participle, a gerund, a noun? Thanks in advance.

@V.V. Looks like a noun derived from a gerund.

There is some writing on the top and the bottom. (Some is a determiner, writing is a noun)
Privet, Snailplane!
Thanks.
Shouldn't it be "with"or "by"?

Q: Subject-Verb Agreement in this sentence?

skywardhopeWhile writing a sentence like this one, is it okay to use "was" or should it be "were"? Sarah skidded to a stop, for right behind Daniel was/were Jane and a man who she assumed was her father. Should I use "were" to indicate two subjects (Jane and her father)?

I think that either was or were can be used here
