@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Sorry to disturb you but I thought I'd ask what you think I should do. The thing is ELL has a new gallery room where everyone is allowed except a handful of us including me. I even talked to the regular mods there they all said it is room owner's choice. Apparently he is pissed at me.
sigh -- I wonder whether I should try to tell anyone over there that it's not true.
I'm not pissed at him.

@Jefromi I'm sorry.
He was also in the Cooking SE chat.

This quote says pretty much why I did what I did (it's strange that it resonates a lot with our beliefs):

“Hurt people hurt people. We are not being judgmental by separating ourselves from such people. But we should do so with compassion. Compassion is defined as a "keen awareness of the suffering of another coupled with a desire to see it relieved." People hurt others as a result of their own inner strife and pain. Avoid the reactive response of believeing they are bad; they already think so and are acting that way. They aren't bad; they are damaged and they deserve compassion. Note that compassion is an internal process, an understanding of the painful and troubled road trod by a
And this is probably also a good read:
It's so true that hurt people hurt people.

...well then.

It was a sad day.

Clearly so
Almost a shame I wasn't here for it.

I don't know how many rooms know about this by now.

Lots.
It got posted in the network mod room (which is why you got a Mjolnir of mods over here)

Q: he is coauthor of three books -- why is there no indefinite article in front of "coauthor" in this sentence?

Cookie MonsterExample: Peter Gulutzan, MySQL AB Software Architect, worked with stored procedures for a different DBMS for several years. He is coauthor of three SQL books. Question #1: I asked a friend of mine who is from the United States and he said that coauthor is absolutely fine with no article. Bu...

^It's worth reviewing later. I remember that we've had a similar question and a similar discussion somewhere around here. (Probably in another room.)
Not even formally. Already and just are complex temporal adverbs, but adverbs do not govern constructions; verbs do. In this case, there is no reason to require a perfect construction, though it's acceptable, as is the past tense. — John Lawler Aug 16 '12 at 0:34

@ArtOfCode Ah, sorry! I pressed the wrong key!
We've been in the room together for a few hours already. :D

Hello, @Araucaria!
Sometimes I wish to be a mod, not to moderate a site or anything, but to fix my typos after the 2-minute grace period has expired. :P
(And I'm an expert at making typos.)

1:51 PM
Typo? What typo?

@ArtOfCode We have this discussion a couple days ago. -- It's more like a braino or even a grammatical mistake. I'm more prone to this kind of error late in the day, but it virtually can happen at any time. :-)

@DamkerngT. I see no typo there

Just a mistake? :-)

We've strayed from language stuff for a couple days already. Let's get back to our usual topic: language and everything related to language.

Hmm... that's tricky. Everything could be related to language.

Q: A few questions on grammer

userQuestion: Identify the one bold word or phrase that must be changed in order for the sentence to be correct. 1.At 1939, television programs were being broadcast in the United States, and the World's Fair of that year featured demonstrations of this advance in technology. A) at B) programs C) ...

I'm not very sure, but it seems like we've got more TOEFL/GMAT questions lately.
It's undeniable (and a little sad, imho) that a lot of English learners learn English for their tests.
One main obvious reason I think is because many colleges and workplaces require a good test score.
Wow, just pasting this text "Scientists usually character the disease leukemia as an overabundance of white blood cells in the bloodstream." to Google got me a ton of results!
Oh, it looks like it's something old.
(BTW, I'd upvoted GnoveltyGnome's answer already, before googling.)
I remember some pieces of advertisement claiming that they've cracked the patterns of these tests and a student can beat these tests by learning with them.
I guess that they will provide the students with lots of lots of exercises based on these patterns.
It could work. I don't know.
I think someone spending long enough time with the test materials may be able to spot the patterns. It may not be perfect, but it may cover probably 70-80% of the test, which is probably enough to beat the test.
