I just built and tried to enter a nether portal in the nether but it wasn't transporting me so I relogged. When I came back I was suffocating underground near spawn, nowhere near where I was in the nether >:(

Hrm, according to this I shouldn't be able to ride on floating rails with a minecart. But I was able to ride on them when I found them yesterday.

I think you can ride them but you can't place them manually.
I suspect you could use a dispenser or drop a minecart from above though.

@phase The exact one? There's usually a 16x16 area of spawn chunks, and I guess you could call the exact one the one the spawn point is in. The spawn point is not necessarily in a certain position in a chunk.
