@maaartinus hey are you around?

8:49 PM
Yes!

hey thanks for joining in
I do have another simple question on HttpClient
1
Q: Efficiently using RestTemplate with PoolingHttpClientConnectionManager

liningI am using Spring RestTemplate as my HttpClient in my project and I want to use connection pooling feature with RestTemplate. After reading more on HttpClient and RestTemplate, I was able to come up with this example which uses PoolingHttpClientConnectionManager class with RestTemplate but I am p...

If you have time, see if you can help out
I am confuse how to efficiently use PoolingHttpClientConnectionManager in RestTemplate
earlier, I was using plain version of RestTemplate without any connection pooling at all.

You're welcome.
This is not an answer for me. Never used Spring and never used RestTemplate.

ohhhh
sure

You should measure. Learn caliper or JMH, I could only guess.

yeah that I can do but I was more inclined towards whether what I am doing is right or not
I created a singleton class for PoolingHttpClientConnectionManager
not sure I needed that
may be their is a better way

Sure, asking is good.... but it's not me who knows the answer. I'd bet that they've already taken care of pooling, why shouldn't they? But I've never seen this library.

sure that's fine
I am not sure why they didn't
RestTemplate is a convenient wrapper around HttpClient
part of Spring framework

I guess I should learn Spring. Just never knew what it's good for. ;)

lol sure :)

But seriously.... all that complicated stuff ;) XML config. Help!

yup

So far I could do everything with Guava & Guice.

do they have any HttpClient?

No. Actually, I needed more (there's Apache HttpClient). Guava is a wonderful library complementing Java standard library and Guice makes dependency injection. No Xml.

I see. Yeah I do like Guava a lot. It's more powerful, I wonder JDK should bring some of the features of Guava library :)

They slowly do... very slowly.

yup, also I do like Apache Commons a lot as well, they also have
lot of cool features to use
Sometimes, I do confuse Apache Commons with Guava

@lining To be clear, it's not OK to invite many people to specific rooms to request help with specific questions. From what I can see you have unsolicited "spams" to me, @maaartinus and Gareth Reese. Each time requesting direct help, etc. This is not OK. The right way to get attention to your questions is to post bounties, etc.

@rolfl Right, but you know... bounties aren't free.

@maaartinus I'm not against people helping out when they are volunteering their time, but this:

@QPaysTaxes there's a difference between saying: here's my answer, not sure what I think about it?, and directly pinging multiple people and inviting them in to separate rooms and 'demanding' individual attention.
If I let that behaviour "go", it will create a toxic environment in our system. Experts like yourself will become bombarded and feel irritated by the demands placed on you.

sorry guys, didn't thought about these things. It's my mistake. I will definitely make a note of this. Thanks rolfl for letting me know this.

To be clear, I am not against people helping each other out, but, it has to follow a less spammy process. When I see you targeting specific individuals for feedback, it's a red flag.
So, now you know, moving on ;-P

@rolfl Agreed, on the long run, it'd be a problem. It's just that bounty is not really an alternative. Usually, those who could afford one don't need it.
@lining As I know close to nothing about what you need this time, I guess we're done for now.

9:32 PM
sure

Ok, bye.

bye
