@F1Krazy Re: sports.stackexchange.com/questions/25131/… - I don't think this was really an attempt to revert things, more just someone who didn't spend very much time thinking/reading about what they're writing.

@alamoot FYI - the word "hostess" should not be used in any format nowadays; you might still hear it in restaurants perhaps but even there it's outdated. In general, in English it's inappropriate to use gendered terms for professions nowadays; even "actor" is the proper term for both males and females who play parts in shows or plays.
(This is because "hostess" unfortunately implies something very different than "host", due to historical reasons; a "hostess" for a show would be a pretty girl who was there just for looks, while a "host" means the person in charge of the show from an on-air point of view.)
I probably wouldn't edit out "actress", though, as it's more in common usage still (though still, technically, incorrect)
but "hostess" would certainly not be used anywhere to talk about the host of a show; look at her Wikipedia page, for example, to see the word "hostess" appears zero times.
(The general rule is that the term that is used should always be able to apply to both genders - "nurse" is correct, despite more commonly used for women in the past, for both, as is "doctor"; "hostess" would be okay if a male in the same job would still be "hostess".)

I see your point. Hostess is not a word I say, thought I do use it in writing. If I wanted to gender mark job titles I would've called the hit line judge a lineswoman in the question. Anyway, it's definitely weird that you call me out and have an educational paragraph!!
