1:29 AM
@waxeagle hence, the Bulls are being slaughtered game 2...

10:21 AM
@edmastermind29 yep.

2 hours later…
12:48 PM
SIR ALEX FERGUSON :( #Legend

user46190
1:31 PM
@Orangecrush #respect

@edmastermind29 I don't think there has been anyone as consistently successful, for that long, in any sport, as SAF. Sad to see him go. From the heights that he has taken the club to, I fear, there is only one way for the club now.

user46190
@Orangecrush i know some Man U fans...and 27(?) years is a long time to keep a level of success consistently. 10+ years is rare let alone 27. And is that way down? Because I don't think anybody would hope for that.

1:47 PM
@Orangecrush I'll give you one name: Pat Summit
38 years, over 1000 victories, 8 NCAA titles, 16 SEC titles. 7 time NCAA coach of the year, 8 time SEC coach of the year. Oh and a Presidential medal of freedom :)
(Geno Auriemma is probably another name that should be in the mix, but I'm partial to Summit)

user46190
@waxeagle Yes! And her career was ended due to illness.

2:03 PM
@waxeagle Just Wiki-ed her. Wow!
@waxeagle "In 38 years as a coach, she never had a losing season." That's just insane!!

user46190
@waxeagle i had another name in mind, but he didn't win a game in his final 14 seasons as head coach.

@edmastermind29 dammmit
fixed
@edmastermind29 who are you thinking?
I assume Paterno

user46190
@waxeagle yup

@edmastermind29 just sad. I think eventually those get restored. It was a rash decision
I like the way Wikipedia handled it tbh
@Orangecrush yeah, she is perhaps the greatest coach of all time, but not many people knew about her for a long time because she coached women
she's gotten a lot more press in the past several years because of both her success and then her disease
@edmastermind29 yeah, she's not very old and could have gone on coaching for another 10 years quite easily

user46190
@waxeagle from an NCAA standpoint, it is sad. 409 wins, 24 bowl game victories, 3 Big Ten championships, 2 national titles....and only 6 seasons at .500 or less in 46 years as head coach.

user46190
2:15 PM
@waxeagle how so, the asterisks?

@edmastermind29 the table that has the actual records in parens
@Orangecrush another crazy record from a women's basketball coach: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geno_Auriemma

user46190
@waxeagle yup. can't take that away (oh, wait.)

user46190
Another name: Mike Krzyzewski

@edmastermind29 yep, he's even got 2 gold medals :)

user46190

user46190
2:24 PM

@edmastermind29 11 championships and a .700 winning percentage is amazing. Also being the only coach with which Jordan and Kobe have won titles with is pretty amazing. Not to mention 6 straight championships
(he took a year off between the two groups of 3)
but he's another guy with no losing seasons on his record

user46190
@waxeagle this is if Erik Spoelstra doesn't get 8 in a row ^_^

user46190
@waxeagle looks like he's being interviewed by the Nets for a coaching position nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/nets/…

@edmastermind29 lol
@edmastermind29 I thought he already turned them down
@edmastermind29 record is great, only the one championship though

user46190
@waxeagle okay, gotcha. i also was hearing something that he could be a front office guy somewhere.

2:35 PM
@edmastermind29 I think that's more likely. His mind is still good, but I doubt he wants to do the rigorous coach's schedule again. Maybe he take a Pat Riley type gig somewhere
@edmastermind29 yep
The biggest thing you have to respect about coach K is that he really hasn't had NBA superstars in waiting on his teams

user46190
@waxeagle they're like the NCAABs version of NCAAFs USC -- except USC players were expected to produce at a pro level.

@edmastermind29 yeah, rarely does Duke have a guy who's expected to produce at a high level. The exception of course is a guy like Kyrie Irving

user46190
@waxeagle injuries to Jay Williams railroaded his career. Carlos Boozer has produced. But everyone else has been bench players, like JJ Redick.

mostly the NBA players he turns out are decent to good role players (boozer, reddick, etc)
Shane battier

user46190
@waxeagle missed that one.

2:40 PM
Deng was one of his too, forgot about that

user46190
@waxeagle and Deng and Boozer are on the same team?

user46190
@waxeagle same could be said for Roy Williams?

@edmastermind29 yep
@edmastermind29 for the most part, yeah

user46190
@waxeagle who is their highest profile player in the NBA right now?

@edmastermind29 Lawson maybe? Harrison Barnes is making a name for himself at Golden State right now

user46190
2:43 PM
@waxeagle exactly what i was thinking. Hansborough is decent for the Pacers.

@edmastermind29 yep, is he a starter yet? I can't remember

user46190
@waxeagle no. started 8 games this past season, played in 81.

ah, found his list of Pro's coached, that helps
@edmastermind29 I thought so
no real superstars on his list either
couple that looks like they might be (but only from more recent years)
and that's the same as Duke really

user46190
@waxeagle yeah...they're not kentucky where 4 freshman are NBA ready every other year.

user46190
@waxeagle and Kansas is another team like that...esp when their one of the higher profiled players is Mario Chalmers.

2:51 PM
@edmastermind29 Kirk Hinrich starts for the Bulls, although that's mostly because Rose is out
Nick Collison gets major minutes for the Thunder
And I can't believe it took me this long to think of Paul Pierce

user46190
@mmyers and Nate Robinson starts/plays over Hinrich as of late

user46190
@mmyers 2003 draft...hey, better than Darko.

user46190
@mmyers holy crap, you're right! my goodness, that's the truth.

user46190
One Kansas guy i wanna see succeed in the NBA: nbadraft.net/players/jeff-withey

I don't know if Withey's game will translate. He'll probably still be a good defender, but I doubt his blocking game will still be able to frighten people out of the lane. And he's still not great on offense.
But at worst, he'll be Nick Collison 2.0, which isn't a bad thing

user46190
2:57 PM
@mmyers he's shown improvement. and i don't see him being anything more than a defensive presence. he's gonna make ppl work in the lane, and that's all you can ask for from this kid.

@edmastermind29 <steven a smith> Mario Chalmers!</steven a>

user46190
@waxeagle he shouldn't have arms to shoot a basketball! breathe until the Heat have secured a victory.

user46190
@waxeagle watch First Take? that show cracks me up. Tebow, Lebron, Kobe, boxing...

@edmastermind29 I don't, but I love the Steven A quotes I hear on ESPN radio a lot

user46190
@waxeagle exactly. that guy cracks me up. jay pharaoh nails him down pat.

3:01 PM
he's a bit flamboyant and opinionated for me to take too much of him. But his animation is fantastic in short bursts

user46190
@waxeagle can't take him too seriously if you wanna enjoy what he has to offer. heck, he takes himself too seriously: deadspin.com/5943994/…

@edmastermind29 lol, man you'd think that at this point the onion would be notable enough that people know. I get not knowing some of the other satire outlets, but the onion...

user46190
@waxeagle right? i showed someone this and thought it could be confused for real news....and a friend says, "yeah, if you're an idiot."

@edmastermind29 lol. I will give them one thing, their video stuff is really well produced. But it's usually quite obviously satire

user46190
@waxeagle and the onion is consistently good. i don't mind one hit wonders from other sources, but its disappointing to see that said source doesn't produce consistently good content. Jib Jab, WKUK, etc.

user46190
3:20 PM

user46190
^^ i get Steph Curry and (unfortunately) Derrick Rose, but Metta World Peace?

@edmastermind29 maybe people are really up on world peace right now?

sorts through array of old MWP pun cards Ah, here's one.

alternatively, that's so metta

Why can't you just give World Peace a chance?

user46190
3:21 PM
@waxeagle should rename to Sports SE metta

@mmyers spin that roladex

user46190
@mmyers question is more appropriate for those in Detroit

Q: Which is more likely to result in a goal: a penalty shot or a power play?

ImrayStatistically speaking, is a hockey team (in the NHL) more likely to score on a power play or with a penalty shot? Often times this is something I wonder when a player is tripped on a near breakaway and the referee calls a penalty rather than a penalty shot. I wonder if the tripped player got th...
