8:55 AM
Sorry, I may need to leave again in 5 minutes, but let's talk a bit

sure, I'll be around a lot to day. No hurry.

Do I understand it right that the only modification you did was set MATLAB=... in mengine.sh?

@Szabolcs Yes

And when you run ./mengine.sh form the terminal, what do you see?
Create link: is good.

@Szabolcs And it works with that modification in MMA9, but not in MMA10.0 or 10.1

8:56 AM
@Pickett Oh, I missed that bit
@Pickett Then it might be due to the MathLink libraries, which were changed in v10.

Yes, create link is what I see. I also tried to connect to a link I created there, I wrote a paragraph about it in the other chat room.

@Pickett You also re-downloaded the latest MATLink version, right?

@Szabolcs Yes

@Pickett Do you see MATLAB appearning in the dock, then disappearing? (Or just he dock showing that it's running)

@Szabolcs No the icon never appears at all

9:04 AM
@Pickett Could you go through the manual connection procedure again? 1. ./mengine.sh form the terminal, enter a link name, e.g. MyLink. 2. From Mathematica, load MATLink, then Install@LinkConnect["MyLink"].
This far everything is good, and no messages in the terminal, right?

@Szabolcs Correct, I get a link object

9:53 AM
Sorry, I had to suddenly leave, I'll be back a little later

I have to go now as well, but will be back in two to three hours.

1 hour later…
11:22 AM
@Pickett Can you try what I show in this notebook without loading MATLink? Just restart the kernel and do the same steps.

1 hour later…
12:47 PM
@Szabolcs All that works.

2 hours later…
3:03 PM
@Pickett So MATLAB starts up just fine and the part where you evaluate 1+1 works and returns ans=2, right?
If so, please re-download the notebook (I updated it) and try this updated version the same way.
Does getting the numerical variable (a) work?
What about getting the logical variable?

@Szabolcs I get the same results as you, MATLinkEngineengGet["l"] -> MATLinkEnginematLogical[{{1}}, {1, 1}]
Everything works as far as I can tell.

@Pickett Do you use an English locale?

@Szabolcs For Mathematica? I use the standard English.

@Pickett No. For your operating system.
Try locale in a terminal.
Actually: I wonder what MATLAB sees.

Ah, no. Swedish. sv_SE
@Szabolcs Not that I know how MATLink works but it works with MMA9 on this same system, with the same version of MATLAB.
