12:34 AM
Not saying this as a moderator, but could we not post sand eject edits? It just spreads that shit around.
7

@WheatWizard Is sand eject another name for rock yeet?

Yeah.

Then I second WW. We don't need that crap here

what is sand eject and/or rock yeet, is it just among us or am I missing something and just stupid

is it just stonetoss?
if so, why not just say stonetoss?

12:43 AM
I generally avoid using the actual name, since it's a nazi comic. Harder to get publicity when people don't use consistent naming.

Ah, so it is something else. Well, I don't know what it is, so that's good I support. Yeah then I second (third) WW.

@hyper-neutrino "sand eject edits" here means amogus edits

Uh no, it meant specifically stonetoss edits. I don't care about the amoungus meme, go ahead as much as you want.

Yeah, stone toss is a Neo Nazi comic maker. Using names like rock yeet, pebble throw, sand eject etc. "dilute" his influence and make it harder for him and his vile content to get attention, while still referring to him. I think it best we drop this subject and try to stay away from using edits involving his "characters" in memes in the future

Didn't even realize, because of how many of these similar silly among us edits I've seen on YT and I didn't know where it came from, but I'll know for the future. In that case, yeah I second ^

Wzl
12:49 AM
I ^ this message more specifically. (is caret a verb?)

@cairdcoinheringaahing Even names like r∘⊂k y∊∊t are still pretty commonly used and easily associated with him
Probably best to avoid those too imo

How about "That Neo Nazi piece of shit"? I think that appropriately covers how I feel about him (and his ilk), and it's generic enough to avoid referring to him specifically :P

This whole conversation is very sus

Anyway, I both 1) need to sleep, I've got a "road trip" tomorrow morning and 2) need to stop talking about neonazis, so \o y'all and I suggest y'all do the same :)

o/ (anyway, should we toss this in the trash or leave it so other people log reading know to avoid it too in the future?)

12:54 AM
It's midday for me.

is this a recurring joke or was it just that one message

@lyxal Your chat user descriptions always make me smile. (I still have ding-ding-ding-ding amogus from the lyxal army...)

oh (assuming that's a reference to through the fire and flames) that song is poggers

@hyper-neutrino correct
Streamers make playing ttfaf look like an achievable goal yet I don't think I'll ever be able to play anything harder than easy lol

on what instrument / in what game / ?

Clone hero
Or guitar hero
Using laptop keyboard
Because I don't have an actual guitar controller
I tried using a usb keyboard to play clone hero last night but it was a bad idea

1:11 AM
ah. never played that before :p
why what went wrong with it

The fact that I am terrible at the game went wrong

@hyper-neutrino clone hero is guitar hero but you can easily add custom made charts

oh I thought it was like a noticeably different game. :p

@Ausername you'll like this week's lyxzfeed™ post then
(you can find it on my main profile)
@hyper-neutrino nah, the mechanics are pretty much the same
I've never played guitar hero, only clone hero so I wouldn't know the difference

1:15 AM
never played either, but osu!mania/quaver look similar (not sure if they are even close in gameplay tho)

Osu looks like it starts easy but gets stupidly hard
Is that a fair assessment?

pretty much. the base mechanics are pretty simple but the things you can do with them get really difficult

@lyxal Ummm......

@Ausername So what are your opinions on toaster validity?

As long as all of them work, they're all valid.

1:29 AM
Reasonable.

@lyxal Does Vyxal have a 'split into pieces of length n' builtin?

Yes

Which is...

Oh ok.

Does modulo var by number store the result?

Looks like dollar store LOLCODE

2:20 AM
@lyxal Yup. It's a bad variable-based language.
Uh oh

I'm new, and I had to go away for a week.

@hyper-neutrino Same here, just thought that was some sort of drawing style specific to amogus. Knowing the source kind of ruins the meme now

2:25 AM
Can't one enjoy amogus without thinking about the context?

s/among us/amongst we

Amogus is so far removed from bad person imo that it's become its own meme. I don't see amogus and think bad person, I see amogus and think sus

The problem is, it causes people to notice that drawing style, and perhaps even subconsciously associate it with "funny" or "good"
For example, I had no idea cobblestone dispense even existed until caird mentioned that was the source of the character when I posted the amo gauss thing

There is 1 imposter among us...

2:35 AM
@RedwolfPrograms Sorry, that must be a bug with the system fonts thing. this userscript should fix it.

Ah yes, I already have had that one for quite some time

(Did you click on it)

(No)
Being Lyxal has prepared me well

So don't even try

Imagine needing a userscript to avoid rickrolls

2:40 AM
You're too good at this.

Correct

i have a new anti-rickroll so. ezclap
also hovering isn't that hard, y'all have given me sufficient practice
@RedwolfPrograms I agree. Now that I know the context I can't see it and enjoy it anymore, and I don't see ignorance as better since now I know to not spread the meme and increase its presence. But yeah, the fact that it's sourced from something so abhorrent is very sad.

@Ausername wrongn't
@hyper-neutrino move the post to trash

2:48 AM
1 message moved to Trashcan

@Ausername word I've said 37 times

@Ausername i don't think search likes punctuation

@hyper-neutrino search doesn't like anything at all

@hyper-neutrino What happened to the nineteenth bakery?
Move some sticks of butter!!!

2:50 AM
@Ausername well if the point is to not have it be seen, and moving something probably draws attention to it, the logical solution is to trash it somewhere others can't go to

:(
But butter....

besides, the joke was (probably) funny the first time; I see no point in repeating it

What about 'cups of flour' or something?

that's pretty much the same thing though; listing another ingredient isn't a new joke, it's just the same thing with an uncreative twist
besides, the butter joke has some actual context and the Bakery was named that way due to that joke anyway

Has sr ever been used?

3:13 AM
I don't know
Probably

Not

This sounds really bad but I can't remember what half the built-ins do in Vyxal

So j joins by newlines and r reverses instruction order.

3:13 AM
I just realized something

What

I did the math in my head and figured out why the conic section things are what they are

Integrals are a pain.

No integrals
I just thought of an equation that would be a 3d graph of a cone, and then I realized if you try intersecting planes with various properties you get the circle, parabola, ellipse, hyperbola, etc. formulas
I knew roughly that's why they were called conic sections but I never actually tried to do the math myself

Imagine being able to visualise 3d objects mentally

3:16 AM
Wait, that's a thing?
Not being able to do that?

I know I can't
As in shapes and geometry
That stuff has never been a strong point for me

geometric visualization has never really been that great for me. honestly i have an easier time "imagining" more abstract concepts though I can hardly call that visualizing though
but yeah learning / figuring out why conic sections were called that was very cool and it was also weird to see that three quite common and useful geometric things could all be found in one cone (well technically two)

Lamps are cool because they basically make conic sections on your wall
That's a great way to visualize them, and 100% makes me want to be a math teacher

@RedwolfPrograms lamps aren't cool when the lightbulb inside gets too hot

oh yeah true, i have noticed that in the past :P

3:21 AM
@hyper-neutrino same

3:34 AM
Also, the GEORGE is a noble animal

What about the lyxal?

Ok.

hmm, right after Redwolf brought up conic sections, I get recommended a YT video of michael (from vsauce) talking about hyperboloids

3:45 AM

(hyper)

Hyperboloids seem like they'd be conic sections' weird cousin that you always find in the corner with a raisin in their nose

@RedwolfPrograms I thought hyper-boloids were a cousin of hyper-neutrino

Well duh

A few days ago we'd been discussing how NP/SP would be disruptive since they'd often be in the room, right?
What if I just had them leave instantly after posting something?
So you'd just see NP pop in, post something, then disappear again?

i thought the disruptiveness came from them joining and leaving often

I thought it was from it being in the list all the time
The animation thing isn't that disruptive, right?

Not really. If it's sitting there doing nothing, that's fine.
In Pokémon, there used to be cards with a ♦ after them, called 'Prism-stars'. So when I first saw a moderator on here, I thought...

CMC given a positive integer x, output a prime p > x such that p = kx+ 1 or p =kx-1 for some integer k.

8:07 AM
@hyper-neutrino One of the bigger problems I see a lot with those comics is that a lot of people like to do "edits" to make the comics actually funny (and most of these edits include something along the lines of "pebble yeet is a Nazi" somewhere). Unfortunately, that can sometimes make the format into a popular meme format (I can think of a couple of formats that are comics from him), and a lot of people don't realise the origin
That can often lead to people using these comics as "hey look, meme", without actually editing anything. Posting them in places like 4chan or r/teenagers, where it's crazy easy to find incels, or those susceptible to that line of thinking, and suddenly, you've just given him a whole bunch of exposure, because someone decided to turn it into a good meme

8:22 AM
After 5 day break(our school just get stopped, still at home now), I am back at code golf

welcome back

thx
I gonna look for new question now lol
btw, just notice that my rep are 911, huh

oh no
well, go ahead and answer some stuff
get to 1069
@cairdcoinheringaahing amogus has really worsened this phenomenon

Still interested in how people found this site to ask programming problem instead of finding SO first, that's so weird, there isn't any codegolf problem on SO, alothough with the same logic, reverse should happen too

8:42 AM
Hi
CMC: Help me remember what this CMC was meant to be.

huh
about number?

Maybe. Just say random stuff and we can see if I remember.

geometry?

derivative?
string manipulation?

8:48 AM
I don't think so

So it's something about number huh

@okie Well that just reminded me of an idea I had for a full challenge

@Ausername nice :)

You know the meme This muffin is looking awfully like a hamster. I think someone baked a hamster into my muffin.?

I just searched it

8:51 AM
Oh well. Anyway, I was thinking of doing that but you get a list of nouns and choose two at random.

lol

Anyway, right now I'm trying to make a quine in Vyxal, which is harder than it sounds.

gl hf :)
@Ausername Numerical theory?

I give up, I've completely forgotten.

Nice!

Thanks! It took a while...
The way it works is that the giant number at the front encodes the rest of the program, then gets prepended once the rest is decoded.

vyxal quine is harder than i thought since codepage chars are interpreted as dictionary words

Does the "standard" "push string, add quotes, run string" approach not work (example)?

Yes. This works around that by using a lot of backslashes and no compression.

9:16 AM
@cairdcoinheringaahing codepage chars are interpreted as dictionary words
so the usual stack based language approach doesn't work too well unless pure ascii

It uses the base-14 key 0123456789+:\`τ.
The big number at the start is the rest of the program compressed from base14 by that, then that gets appended once decompressed.
Aaron Miller came up with a 14-byte one, but it used the D flag to avoid dictionary compression.

ah no wonder

told ya ascii only was the way to go

It took the better part of an hour for me to make this, so I'm posting it anyway.

9:22 AM
sure go ahead
wastl's Stax quine is one of the most ingenious things I've seen
it's a packed quine

@Razetime Where?

@Ausername this

That is ingenious.

why

The title is literally 'Anti-Alpha - where stupid begins'.

10:51 AM
ok
but it's still coming out soon
whether you like it or not

It can't be worse than my PUT 5 IN DAT x language...

yes
that's pretty hard to top

Not as bad as Malbolge, but still pretty terrible.

what's a Malbolge

11:00 AM
Hmm..was my CMC too easy or too hard?

what was your CMC

CMC given a positive integer x, output a prime p > x such that p = kx+ 1 or p =kx-1 for some integer k.

I'm not sure that's possible for all x

Oh is that known?

It seems like it should be possible...

11:04 AM
It wouldn't work for x=1 obviously

If we have code we can at least test it for as many x's as possible

That doesn't constitute a proof though

@pxeger x>1 :)
@pxeger that is true but it would still be interesting

k has to be even for x>2...

Yes
First person to confirm the result up to a million wins :)

11:14 AM
@Ausername mind you, there are 2(or 3?) malbolge golfers in this site

I said designed to be, not is.

require 'prime'

2.step do |x|
  puts x
  found = false
  1.upto(x) do |k|
    if (x * k - 1).prime? || (x * k + 1).prime? then
      found = true
      break
    end
  end
  if !found then
    puts "========"
    puts x
    puts "========"
    break
  end
end
@Anush ^^ I have confirmed it upto 1 million

Because primes, it's likely impossible to prove universally.

@Ausername I doubt that it's not provable

It seems likely, but...

11:25 AM
@Ausername so you are aiming to visit for 420 days, 69 consecutive?

@Neil That's gonna take a while, besides, I want to pick up a Fanatic at some point...
Speaking of which, don't look at my rep.

@pxeger just to be clear I make absolutely nothing from the "ads"
It's basically one big in joke

Did you have a look in Vyxal?

@lyxal regardless, they have been added to my ad blocker

I think it's a bug

11:28 AM
@Ausername you are correct. However it'll be a bit before I can fix it

@Ausername I'm on 27 consecutive days

@pxeger why? They don't actually store data or anything. They're from the esolangs discord

Ok, that's fine. I don't think the relevant answer could be golfed any more with the register working.
@StackMeter I had 30 at one point, but had to leave, and now I'm on 24.

@lyxal they detract from the content I wish to see

Just don't scroll down.

11:29 AM
@pxeger understandable

@lyxal I have also banished G E O R G E to the depths of Blocked

@Ausername yeah I specifically put a whole bunch of whitespace so that seeing the "ad" was a somewhat intentional choice

@pxeger No....
But the GEORGE is a noble animal...

(or is he?)
He could operate the city of Davenport, Iowa for all I care. He still isn't the Vyxal interpreter

11:33 AM
I had to apply to be a part of GEORGE y'know

He does.
@lyxal You mean asked razetime nicely?

My EnGEORGEment was considered by the GEORGE council
@Ausername razetime isn't in charge

Oh.

Ok
Bye

11:37 AM
@Ausername ok

@pxeger k = 2, p =3?

@cairdcoinheringaahing uh, but um err

11:56 AM
@pxeger that's great. How does that code take to run and what language is it in?
How long

@Anush Ruby 3.0, and it took about 3 seconds to get to a million

@pxeger that is pretty cool
so primality testing is built in in ruby?

@Anush the prime module, which is built-in, adds it, although you have to require it

got you. I don't think python has that.

12:13 PM
in fact.. given any n >= 1, there exists k such that kn+1 is a prime.

12:37 PM
CMQ: I'm working on a language that doesn't use whole numbers of bytes. Am I allowed to submit fractional scores, or do I have to round up?

12:48 PM
@pxeger Round up, since a file is stored in the unit of bytes. Another consequence is that you'll need to find out how your interpreter would detect at which bit the code ends.

@Bubbler my plan is to have a command-line argument to say "remove [0,8) padding bits"; is that ok?

That makes sense I guess
I was thinking of BLC, which is strictly in prefix notation, so the code simply ends where the parsing ends

@Bubbler I don't think it would be possible for my language to detect that in-band without adding a whole extra byte
