@Adám kk

12:47 AM
Oh wow, we hit 300 for the OEIS challenge.

300 answers?

Yeah.
Which of course means you can use your favourite languages again.

yuy
I've still never contributed though

@ATaco wait, really?
lol

Every 150 lanswers, you can use languages once more. So we can use any language 3 times now.

12:54 AM
New languages will constantly be made, meaning that the multiset of usages for languages will increase every 150 answers
So the only real limit is whenever people get bored

Or when this site dies
Or possibly even OEIS itself
But people getting bored is more likely

This site will die when either 1) people get bored or 2) SE remembers us a few years down the road and decides we aren't generating revenue anymore

3) SE dies

Right, but SE will only die after StackOverflow dies, and StackOverflow will only die when developers get bored
But when developers get bored, they go to PPCG

Well, the internet could die.

1:02 AM
@Zacharý You shouldn't say such terrible things :P

Hopefully, the PPCG community will have migrated to PPCGv2 by then though
@Zacharý The OEIS will keep running 12 years into the zombie invasion

I'm assuming you're referring to when SE dies?
I meant we could run out of OEIS sequences

It’s a neat challenge
Nothing like the rush as people try to work out a sequence at the end of a week

I wonder whether the OEIS actually gets >=1 sequence a week on average

@Pavel What happened to the new years challenge?

1:22 AM
@ATaco Two things. I forgot about it entirely, and I accidentally deleted the spreadhsheet.

:(

1:51 AM
Guess we'll have to wait for the new new year's challenge!

Flashbacks of Year 12 Calculus

Eh?
How does that cause a "flashback" to calculus?
@ATaco

I'd probably know if I paid attention in year 12 Calculus
5

2:04 AM
... really though, I haven't seen ν used yet
Now PHYSICS on the other hand

That was a nu, by the way
Not a v

All I remember is a du / dx

Yeah, that's going to be stats for me, honestly

@ATaco -1 for not using own SVG mathjax userscript :P

2:06 AM
Well there's d/dx (or dy/dx), but uv/dv is how we were taught integral by parts.

du/dx is integration by substitution.

Tables all the way

Anyway, I data-dumped most of calculus once I passed year 12.

Still remember d/dx e^x?
e^x

Oh, I was right!
I knew e^x was stupid, but I wasn't sure.

Q: Create an N-Dimensional Simplex (Tetrahedron)

ATacoThe Simplest N-Dimensional shape one can create for any dimension is a Simplex, and this is A set of N+1 points that are all equal distance away from eachother. For 2 dimensions, this is an equilateral triangle, for 3 dimensions, this is an regular tetrahedron, At 4 dimensions is the 5-Cell and ...

3:23 AM
@ATaco good challenge would write answer but I need to do irl things
y u post at 7 pm PST
also huh never realized AUS is like 6 hours behind me

Well..
It's more like 18 ahead.
@Riker

well yeah but close enough
who needs days when you have seconds

The Simplex is a fun little shape, simple yet complex. This challenge would be infinitely easier if it didn't need to be a regular simplex though.
This is an even more simple implementation in Funky.

3:52 AM
Hi all, are there any Brainf**k experts who'd be willing to give this answer a look over and check that it does what it says it does?
https://codegolf.stackexchange.com/a/152406/21034 I've been through it and it looks like it meets the spec (hence should win a bounty), but I'd like confirmation from a second pair of eyes if possible.

Looks good to me.

Q: Confound my attempts to solve the halting problem

NathanielPlease note: By its nature, the spec for this challenge is difficult to understand. It probably requires at least a freshman course in computability theory, or equivalent background reading. In addition, the challenge itself is rather hard. Answering it will require writing an entire interpreter ...

Q: String replicator

iBugIn Vim, you can repeat a command by preceding it with a number, like 3dd is equivalent to dd dd dd. Well, this repeating pattern is not restricted to Vim commands. String can be replicated in this way, too. Specification: Given a line of string, consisting of only digits, alphabets (both Ucase ...

Are there any golfing languages that can do Python exec in 1 byte?

7:16 AM
Well, not just golfing languages, but they tend to have short builtins for that.
I'm told Actually has a builtin for Python eval, which would work if I wrapped it in exec("""""")

If anyone cares: I added editing ability and some other things to Hexagony colorer. Last time I checked, Esoteric IDE doesn't have colorer.
Also... can anyone run that in Linux?

11:15 AM
@user202729 did you get the colorer to work in Linux, I tried a while ago and gave up quite quickly

No...

I thought that your question was on the IDE.

I can't run both.

Q: Making the Shortest Quine

jaeyong sungLike it said in the title, Make the shortest quine. Language doesn't matter. No empty quines. So the winner's code is at least 1 byte long.

12:49 PM
Jelly Smart Keyboard (a lot of work in progress) (I'll might extend it to other languages in the future). Uses this table of replacements.

but how do i enter AE
is there a way to escape it?

No way to escape it yet
That's also on my TODO list.

@Mr.Xcoder So like this but with implicit Tab presses.

Yeah, kinda
I am not sure what do to regarding escaping though...

@Mr.Xcoder Use tab...

1:01 PM
@user202729 @Mr.Xcoder Well, the combining happens as soon as you press the second key, so how would that work?

I guess I won't add escaping at all, because the people who would use it would most likely want to convert to unicode.

:42152014 How about pressing backspace immediately after the second key undoes the transformation, just like with auto-correct in MS Word.

Uhm, that might be a good idea but that's going to require rewriting the replacement algorithm
Like, completely.

Why don't people just write Jelly code like this...
Increase Square-root Increase Divide Replicate by Wrap
Equal (Table) Concatenate-with Last-link

for the same reason apl code isn't written like that

1:08 PM
because jelly doesn't have a verbose mode (yet)
dennis has plans for jelly v2 though

Anyone ... Oh, HyperNeutrino is here. ... think that's a good idea?

Hello

heylo

I haven't been here for a while

Because golfing languages's attractiveness is being extremely short... (in my opinion)

1:09 PM
verbose mode is then translated into golfy code :3
have you seen charcoal (the language)?

Hi @HyperNeutrino! How's it going?

I think I've lost my 110 site visitation streak, actually
@Mr.Xcoder Pretty well! How are you?

ASCII-only's language for ASCII art challenge? Yes...

I'm fine, currently making a website for easy Jelly typing

I just checked it out with the link you posted in chat. It looks pretty cool, but please switch it to monospace D: (maybe it is and I'm just missing some fonts)

1:11 PM
I'll switch to monospace (I'd like to use what Dennis uses for TiO) after I implement a Words-to-Jelly feature

Cool, okay.

@user202729 it has a verbose mode: codegolf.stackexchange.com/a/139461/68615
@Mr.Xcoder TIO uses default monospace font

I knew that too.

@totallyhuman TIO uses Exo 2 IIRC

textarea {
    font-family: 'DejaVu Sans Mono', monospace;
}

both of us were wrong

Oh yeah Exo 2 and DejaVu

well... partially
neon will also have a verbose mode
hopefully
if i ever implement it

oo is neon a new WIP language?

Not really new :P

1:14 PM
a theoretical one :P

it's in planning stage

BTW I finished my own esolang while you weren't around Hyper

o okay

1:15 PM
@Mr.Xcoder Was I really away for that long or are you just really fast at making languages? :P
anyway brb

No, I worked on it for about a day :D

'cause every new project needs a room :P

^ reminds me of the Enlist room...

yeah

i'm actually taking some inspiration from it
the feature request notation and such

1:20 PM
ಠ_ಠ now I gotta write a whole list of English –> Jelly mapping

Anonymous
@totallyhuman Sounds like Actually's philosophy

close
> it silently performs a NOP
in neon, it will actually do something
dunno how good that'll be but it's worth a shot

@Mr.Xcoder I also tried to think about good prepositions to use for each pattern... for example, dyad monad -> ÷ 2 -> Divide by 2

Anonymous
@totallyhuman The goal of Actually is for every function/data type combination to do something. It takes a long time to achieve that goal.

1:24 PM
yeah...

@Mego The easier way is to throw away some functions or data type...

How can I change the font everywhere on the page? Would font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace; work if I put it in the <style>...</style> inside the body {...}?

Probably...?
Let's check TIO css.

I'm pretty sure that works, based on experience.

It doesn't seem to work if I put it in the body { ... }

1:25 PM
It uses @font-face {...}.

But it works if I set it separately

(sorry, clicked wrong button. Now both are deleted)

@user202729 I am pretty sure that's not stand-alone.
Eh, I fixed it by setting it separately for each element
I think Courier works

anybody know how to make a github commit feed? i did it before and i've forgotten

You mean have git commits be automatically posted to SE chat?

1:31 PM
yeah

this is a thing (no affiliation to the service) but it has a quota

@Mr.Xcoder <body style="*{font-face: …!important}">

under settings/webhooks you can add a webhook which will POST to a specified URL when stuff happens

https://github.com/:user/:repo/commits/:branch.atom
got it
atom feed easy peasy

@Adám …!important?
Anyway I fixed it

1:37 PM
@Mr.Xcoder Yes, you can add that to any rule to make it override everything else. Use sparingly.

Ah I see

Anonymous
@totallyhuman That doesn't work

Anonymous
GitHub's feeds are incompatible with SE chat

it's worked for me before

Anonymous
You'll get 5-10 commit messages saying they were made at 1/1/1970 00:00:00 when you add the feed, and then never get any new ones

1:41 PM
@HyperNeutrino Monospace added.

yay :D

Or a combination of two letters that are one sound :P

@Zacharý school just started after the break for me lol

School didn't even start for me yet :)

Oh yes, ƌ...

1:46 PM
(It's out due to ice)

@Mego do you have a better alternative? I'll listen this time I promise :P

I thought a digraph had to be separate symbols

@totallyhuman Make your own? Use webhooks and a SE chatbot

Like "ae" rather than æ

 <- what is that symbol? Where have I copied it from?

1:47 PM
writing it's one thing, I need hosting
I do have a raspi...

@Mr.Xcoder Better? (I never get my grammar correct......)

Better

Anonymous
A raspi should easily be able to host such a simple thing

It sounded like it was intentional

@totallyhuman there are a lot of free hosting services...

1:48 PM
Like the "I CAN HAZ CHEEZBURGER" meme

I'll screw around with chatexchange

@Zacharý I'm just bad at English...
@totallyhuman in the sandbox.

@Zacharý haha rip. we had a bunch of bus cancellations because of snow but we don't currently have a problem with ice (it hasn't been warm enough to cause water/slush to get frozen overnight) but snow lol

It's just "has" that does that, I totally understand

yeah yeah :P

1:49 PM
I feel like we don't have enough categories for Best of PPCG 2017. Any other ideas?

... no snow here ...

@HyperNeutrino Our school has only cancelled for snow during ONE YEAR that I've been there, the rest has been ice
@user202729 Same, we NEVER get snow

also once school was cancelled for snow and then parents got mad so then the school board is now hesitant to shut down schools

We have a very, very warm winter. In January we went outside (for running) in T-Shirts

I got a 4-day weekend 'cause snow
kinda horrible but it did delay a midyear

1 got 5 days once due to freezing rain + ice

Why can't the children stay Home alone (pun intended)

right after march break

1:51 PM
Yeah, so I wrote a paper for stats for NO REASON! FUN

so i had 4 days of school in ~18 days consecutive

2 days in 16 days

@NewMainPosts Horrifically slow today, wake up!
> not including n or 2n.
2n can never be prime @user202729

What's the range for n?

Does it matter?

1:54 PM
if n = 3.5 then 2n is prime

n could include 1

if n = 1 then 2n is prime

Q: Prime number between n and 2n

jaeyong sungBy Bertrand's postulate, there is always a prime between n and 2n. Challenge Default I/O method. Find all of the primes between n and 2n, not including n or 2n. Whoever writes the shortest code wins! Test case Input 7 Output 11 13

Any way to make a interpreter (webpage, like TIO) that supports graphical output? (assume I can find a hosting service)

Graphical output will be implemented in v2, which will have much better control over the interpreters.

I know, but how can I get the output from the program? Seems like a nontrivial task...

Output image data>

Anonymous
@user202729 Checkbox: "output as image", if checked: output to canvas instead of textarea

I was talking about the backend, not the frontend...

Anonymous
2:05 PM
Backend you do it exactly the same way - send raw bytes to the frontend

Anonymous
All that matters is how those bytes are interpreted

I meant how to read the image from the program / interpreter ...

Anonymous
Images are just bytes. Output those bytes to STDOUT, just like anything else.

counting messages
So I have to modify the interpreter...

2:08 PM
output everything pixel-by-pixel using ANSI escape codes

Anonymous
@user202729 You shouldn't, unless the interpreter doesn't output the image data to STDOUT

I don't understand... what if it just "show a window" like normal programs?

Anonymous
Then yes, it will have to be modified
