@Liam had a great weekend thanks... though work and parties got in the way of kayaking we went geocaching instead :) Snowdon is the weekend after this one!
@Liam: yeah, read about the new house stuff. I am doing good. Had a good trek last weekend, broke my toe on the way home and now I can't run, cycle, hike, climb for a month or so.
I need to clean my walking boots up before Snowdon but am hopefully going for a full day gear hike this weekend (rain or shine!) And if we can manage it... damn kayaking
I'm trying to get hold of some winter boots right now. My girlfriend got some cheap off ebay, seems there are plenty of girlfriends encouraged into the mountains in winter by their boyfriends who subsequently don't like it and sell their boots on ebay for cheap! She got some lovely Scarpa's brand new full price £300+ she paid £80!!
@RoryAlsop It's more the stiffness of the boot I need. They need to be B2 rated really. Means they have a steel sole that stops them from flexing when you apply weight though the toes of the crampons
I think it's steel, could be something else I guess
fully fire retardant, breathable public order safety boot which has been certified as protective clothing for use in violent situations.
That's what I want in a boot!
@Aravona yeah, I bet it was something insignificant too? Always is!
conditioning water and dirt repellent technology which repels all forms of liquid including blood borne pathogens, alcohol, fuel and other flammable substances.
YESSS
These are awesome. I totally want a boot that is both suitable for violent situations and repels blood borne pathogens
@Liam ... yeah this is code I've inherrited from someone who never bothered to write code for a website that would grow... traced it back to a single line of code and then everything worked
@Liam I wear one pair hiking, and I have another (really old pair) for on stage. The stage pair have duct tape holding one side together - I ripped it open on a piece of rebar on a photo shoot. Forget blood borne pathogens - I want iron rod repellant!
@Aravona Pretty average. We had an argument over the type of drawers we wanted. Pretty much the same as every other trip to ikea by anyone in the world ever.....The girlfriend won the argument if you interested
@Liam ... I've never argued in Ikea... my other half and I always like the same things... then I pick up a stuffed rat and shout 'Is hamster mr Fawlty Is hamster!' Then we pay and sometimes get a hotdog.
room topic changed to The Great Outdoors: then I pick up a stuffed rat and shout 'Is hamster mr Fawlty Is hamster!' Then we pay and sometimes get a hotdog. [angry-bovinae] [banana-measurements] [euphemism] [helmet] [testicle-and-raccoon]

@Liam Why only those two brands? There are plenty of good crampon-rated boots available
Seems we had some good new traffic on TGO
@Liam After quite a struggle in deciding which will be my first alpine boots to use with crampons, I bought the Meindl Jorasses: sport-schuster.de/out/pictures/800x800/…
I guess brands like Meindl, Hanwag, Lowa, Salewa are all German but they all produce high quality shoes with quite a lot of experience. They don't sell to the UK? That would be a pitty. La Sportiva is ofc good as well.
If you get all the folks in your team to google for something you can quickly find out who has the best google-fu, and it comes down to knowing how to play the search terms game
