Eh. Once again I seem to have a window named "Untitled-63" open on my machine. I do create new notebooks at quite a rate, but not that quick, the whole session is only two days old or so. What might be incrementing this counter without actually opening new notebooks?

@kirma some kind of function that makes them silently to copy-paste-modify-etc.? I've written a bunch of those and never really been careful to make sure it didn't increment the counter
Per that, it's sufficient to add WindowTitle->... to make it not increment, e.g. CreateNotebook[WindowTitle -> "tmp", Visible -> False] won't increment the counter although it's probably good to track some kind of unique tmp counter too (maybe Module[{tmp}, CreateNotebook[WindowTitle -> ToString@tmp]])

@b3m2a1 Automated copy/paste or notebook creation/manipulation is something I've never found necessary in my Mma use, so I'd guess it has to stem from something that Mma does "on its own"... but good to know nonetheless.
