I am more than willing to help out with this effort @halirutan, if there is web-specific stuff you might want help with please ask. I'm retired for 3 weeks out of 4 so I've got plenty of time to try and mess with this.
Although this is one of the weeks where I'm not retired, so I wouldn't be able to get into it until Monday. But yeah, more than happy to try and help with this. Let me know if there's anything I can do.

Say, this seems trivial, but my small brain can't find anything simple, and what I thought would work definitely does not. I can't find any solutions that are well applicable to this problem either...basically I want to take a desired matrix, say `{{1, 0},{0,1}}` and compare it to a list of matrices to find some form of an error rate/measure of difference between them.

Subtract[Abs[{{w, x}, {y, z}}]^2, Abs[{{a, b}, {c, d}}]^2]

works but neither

Subtract[Abs[{{w, x}, {y, z}}]^2, #] & /@ Abs[{{{a, b}, {c, d}}, {{e, f}, {g, h}}}]^2
This should be trivial, but it isn't? Or I have no idea what I'm doing. Both are possible.

@CarlLange That sounds really nice. I already tagged you on the "work-in-progress" pull request.
It's not an urgend matter and you can chime in whenever you have time. I'd like to wait for the official rollout of the highlighter on SE anyway, to see what is broken and how users react.
I guess the main work will be to agree on the features we will take from our old highlighter, test everything and I'd be happy if someone with more JS experience looked over my mess.
