@1110101001 I turned on the suggestion bar and my memory blew up for about 30 seconds, then went back to normal before displaying the bar (using 12.1 prerelease 2)
@halirutan hah! well, to be fair, that is from 2012, and the readtable function introduced in 2013 handles that example easily - but, point taken! :)

Looks like the curse of the suggestion bar strikes again then. (I'm using 11.3 still so I was curious if they had fixed this. I guess not)
I wonder what it's trying to do that causes the memory blowup on that one

@1110101001 it is interesting - that one might be worth submitting as a bug
yep, still the first two things I do on a new MMA install - turn off suggestions bar and $HistoryLength = 4!

Is there an equivalent of $NewSymbol for Remove or ClearAll?

@Edmund for Remove there should be since there's a hook into the drop-from-symbol-table call in Internal`Handlers
But you might need to implement it yourself.

@CarlLange what a low-key disaster of a language JavaScript is :|
The fact that you can call a function with the straight up wrong number of arguments makes me so uncomfortable:
function f(a, b, c) {
  return a + b + c;
}

f(1)          // NaN (b and c are undefined)
f(1, 2, 3)    // 6
f(1, 2, 3, 4) // 6 (the fourth parameter is not ...)
(that comes from here: developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/… where someone reviewing the document put in a Fixme: basically shitting on the previous segment)
On the plus side I do like the new Mathematica-esque OptionsPattern type stuff it turns out it supports now like:
Move(m, {update_hook: hook})

@b3m2a1 More JavaScript awesomeness destroyallsoftware.com/talks/wat

@RohitNamjoshi Ah right I remember seeing that
Still the ECMA6 or whatever it is syntax/design seems quite reasonable
In that it's basically converging to being python 🙃
