Two calls for help: 1) MathematicaPacletServer seems a bit long for a GitHub org short name. I want to make it a bit smaller (especially so mathematicapacletserver.github.io/PacletServer isn't such an overwhelmingly long URL) but don't know what to change it to. I wanted something like mps but unfortunately that is taken. I could use something like mpacs or mathps but wanted to get advice on it
2) my site design is pretty bad: mathematicapacletserver.github.io/PacletServer if anyone with better taste can give me advice on what it should look like I'd appreciate that. If it can be done with static HTML I can make it with my site builder.

5:55 AM
@CarlWoll would you be willing to contribute some of the paclets you've placed on your GitHub? I'm still trying to figure out if the flow I have is a good one.

6:31 AM
@b3m2a1 Try if the simple name paclets is free.

6:44 AM
@b3m2a1 The site design is in general not bad. The fonts are clearly readable. The one thing I would change are the colors. And what I would do is to copy as much from SE as possible. In this way people navigating from here clearly see that the paclets there are mostly community effort. Just use the same background graphics we have here for the header and the footer and take the colors from our main site. I guess this will look awesome.

@halirutan Good thinking. I'll see what I can pull.
@halirutan Will paclets be clear enough? I'd like something that references Mathematica somewhere, although I suppose paclets itself does that...

@b3m2a1 In my opinion, paclet is a very unique word and everyone using Mathematica will instantly recognize it.

8:30 AM
@halirutan I bought that argument: paclets.github.io/PacletServer
(I'm pushing some style updates so we'll see when they get applied)
Feel free to put suggestions on the GitHub repo: github.com/paclets/PacletServer
That way they're all there and tracked

@b3m2a1 looks nice +1

@b3m2a1 I'll let you work on it for a while before looking over it. There are some glitches but I guess you are already working on them, e.g. the "About" page has not css and the "Mathematica Paclet Server" header does not redirect to the new URL.
Additionally, I would put the "About" button to the very right and make an additional "Home" or "Listing" button on the toolbar at the very left. It is not exactly obvious that you need to click the main header to go back to the listing page.

@halirutan about looks fine for me, and header redirects to the main

Yes, now for me too.

8:57 AM
@halirutan mind putting these on the GitHub as issues? I can't say I'm confident I'll remember them when I get back to working on it sometime tomorrow or this weekend.

1 hour later…
10:16 AM
@b3m2a1 This page should use "PacletName" instead of paclet_name. Don't underestimate what people can get wrong. We shouldn't show them underscores, and we should be explicit about the quotation marks. You won't believe what sorts of support requests I received ...
@b3m2a1 On this page, the PacletInstall link is broken.
@b3m2a1 The About page should have a link to the GitHub site where there's info on how to submit paclets.

10:53 AM
@Szabolcs those were pretty quick to put in so I did. I might just take out that PacletInstall link though. It just links here: wolframcloud.com/objects/b3m2a1.docs/reference/PacletManager/…
Which is probably more confusing than helpful

@b3m2a1 I don't have anything to add here except to say that this is an exciting development & great work!

2:26 PM
Has anybody played with genome stuff on Mma? Is there any use for it?
I finally got my genome sequenced at 30X depth, and wondering if Mma is of any use on processing it. Especially the raw data (>100 GB).

@kirma No idea, but how much did that sequencing cost and who did it?

2:42 PM
@ChrisK 650 euros from Dante Labs. Delivery of results took four months (they talked of "50 business days" on their web site...), and I feel it's a bit dodgy direct to consumer whole genome sequencing company, but alternatives tend to be considerably more expensive...

1 hour later…
4:11 PM
Has anyone gotten DocumentationSearch`CreateDocumentationIndex to work in MMA 11.3? I'm always getting "Unknown field Abstract in ContentFieldOptions" and, more problematically, "Java exception occurred: java.io.IOException: The process cannot access the file, since another process has locked part of the file" - this leads to no index being built, and the files created are locked indefinitely by the Java instance started by MMA, forcing you to kill the kernel to even delete the broken files

4:46 PM
@kirma ouch, looks like I'll wait a few years more

5:03 PM
@ChrisK Mmaybe. Frankly the initial difference between 23andMe data and WGS data is very minor in the sense of health.
I think the company has been offering 30X WGS at best for around 300 euros...
I did learn one thing though: I have a mutation which might cause me to go blind in coming 20 years. We have the technology to fix that, though, and it hasn't really realized itself apart from a grand-uncle, although it's equally likely to cause the result for the whole branch of family...
so, I'm not that worried. I must admit that I was a bit concerned when I saw this new result couple days ago, though...

5:22 PM
@kirma May I ask how the illness is called you might get?

5:33 PM
@halirutan Corneal dystrophy, Fuchs endothelial type 6 (late onset)
It's really one of those that can be repaired with an easy operation which is by no means timing critical.

@kirma Interesting.

@halirutan If you think so! ;)

@kirma In general interesting :) Not sure I had the guts to make a DNA analysis just to discover what I might be dying of.

I would think you are very likely to know it already, unless your parents are a mystery to you.
Also, by our age, almost all dramatic effects should be known either by being already dead, or by knowing it on basis of relatives...
In this regard a lack of surprise is really a relief.

5:53 PM
@kirma Yes, and I want to keep this warm feeling. My father smokes since his youth (I don't) and a shortage of beer is rare. He works as much as I do and is still healthy af.

But sure, it's a little boring. At the same time, a bit like horoscopes, analyses on services like Promethease (scientifically based, after all) do a lot to confirm your expectations. Many results are irrelevant, but in many one can recognize traits of oneself.

@kirma HELLLOOO! What do you mean "by your age"? I'm 25.
:)

;)
Thinking seriously, though, the most important genetic indicators are present and affect individuals before birth, not to mention reproducing.

@kirma I never followed the state-of-the-art on this topic.

6:18 PM
@halirutan It's mostly that people who are most likely to suffer from this are never born. Probably many of them are never even known to exist...

6:41 PM
... and people which are ordering genome analysis for non-medical purposes are likely to get "disappointed", which is very fortunate for them. Things are actually good for them!

@kirma I got that part and being a four-time father, I know how unlikely it is that a human is even born.

I'm also personally painfully aware of how lucky "normal people" actually are in outcomes of life. It's probably better not to have too an interesting life!
Nonetheless, even knowing that I have gene putting me at risk of going blind (without treatment) in coming decades is an interesting factoid to me. I must admit I have little trouble understanding that different people might exist, like those reacting with emotion.

@kirma Yes. I'm sure of that. I have been and I am of good health all of the time, but when I get even a headache, you can forget me. I cannot cope with that. I'm additionally lucky to not get all the deadly stuff the kids bring home. I'm not sure how I would cope with a migraine or worse conditions.
@kirma A good example is probably the late Stephen Hawking.
Although it seems not clear to what extend ALS is genetic.

7:12 PM
@halirutan Yeah. Consumer-targeted genetics are an interesting market... I do understand the curiosity of some people for their ancestry, but in the regard of health-related indicators it is a bit depressing thing to have full exposure. No matter if it means ugly things or lack of certainty.

7:23 PM
Hi peeps
anyone knows why 1 /. ((_?LessEqualThan[2]) -> 3) doesn't return 3?

I wonder when they start spicing up these reports by highly probabilistic facts like "you're a descendant of all medieval European royalty who have direct descendants to this date" ... because that's almost certainly true for every genetically European person nowadays. ;)

@AccidentalFourierTransform: ? has higher precendence than [..]: you need to add parentheses like so: _?(LessEqualThan[2])

@Mathe172 Thanks!
that works
but it's somewhat confusing...
why would ? have higher precedence than [..]?
that's silly :-P
well, thank you very much anyway

@AccidentalFourierTransform It has such a high precedence so that you always remember to put parentheses around things like f[x_?(myTest[#]&)] := ... :)

I use _?NumericQ rather often, so I'm not used to parenthesising that pattern
oh well

7:34 PM
@AccidentalFourierTransform And it's exactly the reason I mention this.
The use of _?NumericQ is so common that people tend to forget the parentheses in more complex situations.
