12:00 AM
@ℛ.ℳ We were testing STV. Nobody told you?
@J.M. congrats, re-mod!

@belisarius Actually, I was wrong.

That's the vote tally for each candidate for 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices

12:26 AM
@ℛ.ℳ My vote isn't there. Fraud!

Oh dear... Argentinian votes are also worthless now?
That's not my doing!

@ℛ.ℳ Again insulting my patriotic feelings

I try

@ℛ.ℳ try harder

Looks like it'll be relatively easy to implement an stv calculator in mma
All the formatting and pretty printing would be a pain though...

12:30 AM
@ℛ.ℳ I haven't the slightest idea. Is it some kind of iterative reduction?
discard the loser's votes and re-assign?
@ℛ.ℳ WebApps election was FAR more interesting

@belisarius Yeah, sort of. The starting threshold is total votes/(number of seats +1). Then work out who has crossed the threshold and redistribute their excess votes to the second choices and so forth
Could probably be done all functionally with NestWhile, I think.
The above tally took only 3 "lines" to produce from the ballot file
The single transferable vote (STV) is a voting system based on proportional representation and ranked voting. Under STV, an elector's vote is initially allocated to his or her most-preferred candidate. After candidates have been either elected (winners) by reaching quota or eliminated (losers), surplus votes are transferred from winners to remaining candidates (hopefuls) according to the surplus ballots' ordered preferences. The system minimizes "wasted" votes, provides approximately proportional representation, and enables votes to be explicitly cast for individual candidates rather tha...

in those processes the devil is in the details, as always

@belisarius definitely

I think the main use of that kind of things (STL) is diminishing the probability of manipulation. Nobody can manipulate something impossible to understand

@belisarius Yes, I thought my odds of retaining my position were half-and-half... :)
Thanks.

12:39 AM
@J.M. I, for my part was inclined to renew. Not because I'm disappointed with the running affairs (far from that), but because I feel there is a risk of becoming "burned" by continual exposure

@belisarius inclined or disinclined? Sounds like you meant the latter...

@ℛ.ℳ Sorry, language mix. Renew in Spanish is "to change"
I mean, I feel a change of mods is better than to keep the old ones for long periods
And that is independent of the mod's qualities

heh :)
gotta ditch this curvy name soon... missing too many comment pings

@ℛ.ℳ Yeap, I was insulting you all afternoon

12:54 AM
It's ok, I was relaxing on the Falkland islands... you would've never reached me anyway :D

@ℛ.ℳ I was in a very small village in Chile 20 years ago, and there were two old and single sisters living together. The fought continuously over everything. Town's people called them "the Falklands"

hah! :)

@ℛ.ℳ It was here
Cáhuil is a Chilean village located south of Pichilemu, in the outfall of Nilahue Lake, in the O'Higgins Region. Cáhuil means "seagull's place" in Mapudungun language. The economy is based on the production of coastal salt, oysters, and choros. Cáhuil Lagoon is a place suitable for fishing, swimming, and boat travel. Salt deposits The production of salt is a very old practise in the area. It is known that the indigenous people extracted salt in a very rudimentary way. Production has increased using modern methods. As of 1978, more than a 60% of the population of Cáhuil lives on the pr...

Looks like a very nice location on Google maps

@ℛ.ℳ People is unbelievable there. I have more anecdotes from my month there than from the rest of my life

1:08 AM
Oh, do share. You have some interesting ones usually

@ℛ.ℳ Ok here goes one. Hope my English is up to the task
New Year. "All" the villagers (perhaps 300) appeared suddenly in the main street. That wasn't too strange, because it's the only street in town. The town runs parallel to the sea, and there is no need for another street. No blocks, no nothing. Anyway, the strange thing was that they were all in their better clothes. The women (hard working women, btw) left aside their usual dirty ones and seemed they were going for a party
We (a friend and I) followed them to a large stable. Music was loud. Folk (Chilean) music. Some people was dancing old and traditional dances with the same enthusiasm you can find in a night club. It was perhaps 2 PM.
Most of them were at least partially drunk. Think of partially as an euphemism.
Then the thing started.
Horses came. Big and beautiful. They were going to race.
Shouts, money, women, liquor. Imagine it. 300 people going crazy for a horse race

1:24 AM
oh, the joys of simple life in a small village :)

Can you see them? Women kissing horsemen, wishing them luck. Kids running everywhere. Beer, wine, whiskey, local unsuspected beverages, sheep, horses, cows, more women, more liquor, more horses, loud music.

I can vividly picture the scene in terms of Asterix comics... somehow the setting and the debauchery seem perfect for the final couple of panels in any of his adventures.

Then the first race. Three beautiful horses. Perhaps 200 meters away there was a pole. The horses went, at full speed, round the pole and came again to the starting point. The women holding the kids so they don't end under the hoofs
And bets. Lots of bets. Everyone holding money in his hands. Men, women, kids, cows, everyone
They were betting like crazy. There was a red haired man who booked the bets. "Booking" is just a way of saying it. He got the money and remembered everything. No need for books Anyway, he probably didn't use a pencil in his life.
After the fourth race we decided to bet. We went to the red haired man, and without knowing exactly what we were doing, we posed a bet for a big white horse
hope "posed" is understable
anyway
The man laughed. "White horse" was not the correct way to call a white horse. Horse colors are not like usual colors. A white horse is called "barcino" or "parcino" or something like that. We laughed too. Sometimes beer helps.
Anyway, imagine the moment. Everyone were looking us. Apparently our bet was far too high. It was just a lunch for us, but there that was a lot of money. We were doing the wrong thing. Calling for trouble
A nice young woman approached us and told us to go to the red man and ask for some money back, that the people would think we were rich. She insisted, and explained we were doing some kind of ridicule thing.
So, there we went. We told the red man we made some mistake, and reclaimed half our money back. He accepted.
I can't remember the race. It was too short, or I've been drinking too much beer, perhaps both. But we won. I mean, the white horse, or whatever the real name of a white horse is, won.
We were happy, we jumped, we singed, we cheered, and we went to claim out hard won money.

1:45 AM
@belisarius nice! The cynic in me wants to believe that the girl was in cahoots with the red haired man and discourages folks that bet heavily on winning horses ;)

The red one looked at us with a strange smile. He said "gringos!" with a sad face ("Hey! ... we are not gringos" we were about to said)
@ℛ.ℳ wait, wait ... there is more ... hope I'm not boring you

No, not at all. It was more to let you know that I'm still here :) Didn't want you to feel like you're typing endlessly and no one's around...

Ok. He then explained us that the races have a handicap system. The white horse had a full body handicap. It must win for full body, and only won by a neck. We didn't win. We lost, he said.

:O

We felt that something was going wrong. He was abusing us. We were not going to accept it. We talked bold. We wanted our money. It was OUR money. Oh Gosh ... loud music and and beer isn't good advice.
When he saw we was not going to let it go, he changed his mind. He said that it was his fault for not explaining the rules to us when he accepted the money. He apologized, gave us the money and asked us not to bet again.
All in all ... it was something like 20 USD. But it was OUR money. A question of principles.
Now that night
We were dining at the (only) local restaurant
eating the best salmon you can find in the world. USD 2 for a 2 Kg. smoked salmon, imagine that
Then the red one came in
He was sober and calm, asked for permission to seat at the table
He told us:

2:01 AM
the tension builds

"This very afternoon I tried to save yourselves from going to jail. You were wrong, and I tried to explain that, but you were dunk or mad.I hope you are now fresh, and able to hear me". He now sounded like an educated man. "I came here with the police, and asked them to wait outside"
We doubted. My friend went to the door. When he came back, he told me that at least 10 policemen were outside. No police cars. They had no cars

@ℛ.ℳ You're using The Professor's quote wrong; that makes it sound like four mods is a bad thing if you know the show, while I'm thrilled I got my way!

We said, "Ok take your money, and go away" we were not going to argue with the police for 20 filthy dollars,
He took his money, but said: " I'll not go away. I'm not stealing you. I will explain you how these races are"
He went outside and asked the police to go. He payed them of course.
He the came back, took a seat and ate with us

@Mr.Wizard well, he only says that to make us feel better about this "pointless job" ;) But yes, the meme's use has strayed a bit from the show's intents...

Along the dinner, he explained every detail about how those races are. Very interesting. They have a real handicap system, and a sophisticated betting system, which we understood while dinning.
We ended that dinner as friends. The next day, we leaved the hotel and moved to his house, where we spent the rest of our holidays. I still exchange mail with him from time to time
He is a very nice PHYSICIAN.
the end
oh well .. .I'm alone
that happens when trying to write in a damned foreign language

2:15 AM
@belisarius very interesting story. I was almost convinced you were getting scammed :)
I'm surprised he didn't recognize you as a fellow neighbour
@belisarius You write very well. Just a few stray verb conjugations here and there that were incorrect, that's all

@belisarius Great story; thanks for sharing it. I hope if you post more you'll be sure to @ping me somewhere along the way as I don't want to miss out.

@Mr.Wizard you should hang out in chat more often :)

I'll try to. I'm not the most talkative and I've also been busy recently however. You should put together a digest of the highlights for the rest of us. ;-)

@ℛ.ℳ Another day I'll tell you the story of the political refugee (a judge) that hid in that little town 20 years
He believed that sea lions are oviparous
@ℛ.ℳ Oh, thanks. I don't practice too much. And the worst is that I never get feedback about my writing, so it's difficult to improve it

2:31 AM
@belisarius You had me on the edge of my seat!
(and then I got up and walked away, but hey, I came back!)

@Shog9 hehe .. it wasn't intended as a suspense story ... those were my holidays!

Nevertheless, you told it well :)

@Shog9 Oh, thanks a lot. Writing in English isn't easy for me

@belisarius Well, usually I ignore errors as long as I can understand the meaning and intent. You tell a good story.
The only word that stood out is singed, when you meant sang (past tense of sing). Singed is the past tense of singe which means to lightly burn something (typically hair or cloth)

@ℛ.ℳ Please,don't doubt about "suggesting me better ways" ie kicking me hard when you see foul mistakes in my writing. I hate my substandard English
@ℛ.ℳ And the worst thing about it is that I know it :(

2:39 AM
@belisarius hehe, it happens. I learnt German for a couple of years (about 7-8 yrs ago) and for the next 2-3 yrs or so, I kept pausing every time I had to write "weird". The German ie for "eee" sound made me to subconsciously spell it as "wierd"

I read a lot in English, but I write and speak none. Reading isn't enough
@ℛ.ℳ Well, I had German at uni. Those were my worst marks.

@ℛ.ℳ It probably should be wierd -- I before E and all -- but you have to remember it's weird. ;-)
p.s. like the new gravatar? :^)

@Mr.Wizard Einmal bitte

@Mr.Wizard I'm digging the Gravatar. Now, maybe you can remove the "pro tempore" in your profile as well. ;P

@Mr.Wizard There are more exceptions to that rule than words that actually follow the rule

2:44 AM
@J.M. heh, forgot about that

@ℛ.ℳ ...there are a lot of exceptions to all the rules of English, period.
;)

@ℛ.ℳ Yeah, I know.

@J.M. English is an exceptional language

I've once said that English was like an ameba, swallowing a lot of things in its path...

@ℛ.ℳ Indeed.

2:46 AM
@bel, if you're going to be writing your autobiography, sign me up for an advanced copy. ;)

@ℛ.ℳ Would you care to handle your first flag for the site?

@J.M. Granted, but I haven't thought about it yet . That is something people starts worrying about when they got into their thirties.

@Mr.Wizard What flag?

@ℛ.ℳ The one you just handled. ;-)

2:53 AM
@belisarius Yarr!

Sandokan is here!
perhaps there are kids around
Sandokan is a fictional pirate of the late 19th century, who first appeared in publication in 1883, created by Italian author Emilio Salgari. He is the protagonist of eleven adventure novels and is known throughout the South China Sea as "The Tiger of Malaysia". Sandokan novels Emilio Salgari wrote several novels chronicling the adventures of Sandokan and Yanez, two of his most legendary creations. The pirates are introduced in The Tigers of Mompracem, which portrays their relentless struggle against the Dutch and British powers that seek to wipe them out. In subsequent novels they bat...
Damn ... it was MUCH better than the TV

Holy moley... the new question has such a huge code dump that my browser tab hangs when I click the edit link

@ℛ.ℳ I am going to post tomorrow a qustion in meta about data repositories.

@belisarius what data repos?
For the snippets that people include in their posts?

we are starting to get questions that linked to data, not only code repositories.
if the data is lost or not accesible, the question lose part of is meaning

3:02 AM
I started a stackmma github account and uploaded a few, but then someone said that it might be copyright infringement even though by posting here it is technically CC licensed...

@ℛ.ℳ I am aware of it. I think the only way out is using an SE or an associated SE site

I'd still favour that approach... if the top and active users create free github accounts, I'll add you all to the central repo and you can freely attach data to it

that was the reason behind trying to use imgurl
@ℛ.ℳ WAIT
WAIT
WAIT!
That's insane
we are tying two independent sites

@belisarius That's not going to happen, which is why I went the github route.

Q: Please add a system to allow file uploads attached to questions and answers

ddeI posted a question and a couple of respondents asked for the source code. I could only post portions of the code. If attachments were allowed I could have uploaded a .zip file with the whole application. Will this be a feature in SO?

we should try to care about these contributions. If SE goes away, Ok. everything is lost, but we shouldn't increase the risk

3:06 AM
@F'x Awesome pic. Which crystal?

I'm sure SO has a bigger need for it than us and if it's declined there, then will definitely be declined for us too.

@rcollyer Aren't you going to say "good night". Try after me "good night"
Good night rc!

Why would I say good night?

@ℛ.ℳ I still like imurl
@rcollyer Because I'm here with two nice girls, a beer and R,M

@belisarius I'm intruding?
And, besides, why would you want "nice" girls, "naughty" girls are so much more fun.

3:10 AM
@rcollyer and because a well educated gentleman like you learn to said that in kindergarten

@belisarius Oh, you mean encode it in an image like you and Sjoerd were doing? I suppose that could work, but only as a backup. I mean, I'd still prefer that it can be downloaded from somewhere without having to use a special palette

@belisarius while true, irrelevant to the question at hand.

@rcollyer He's spending time with his mom and grandma

@rcollyer Yep. You know. Good girls go to paradise. Naughty girls go everywhere

@ℛ.ℳ he had to get here somehow ... no details please. :)

3:12 AM
"If you're a good girl, you'll get one of them. If you're a bad girl, you'll get LOTS of them."

Don't make me moderate you. :-P

Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell is a 1993 studio album by Meat Loaf and was written and produced by Jim Steinman. It was released sixteen years after Meat Loaf's second solo album Bat Out of Hell. It reached #1 in the US, the UK and Australia. Three tracks were released as singles, including "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)", which reached #1 in 28 countries. Some of the songs were intended for Meat Loaf's second solo album. However, due to problems with his voice, and other disagreements, his voice did not end up on that album. Instead, Steinman used those songs on hi...

@Mr.Wizard Relax, my good man; this is chat. ;) Now if we're getting filthy on main, then something's fundamentally wrong...

@Mr.Wizard So, you and @J.M. are the girls he was talking about. :)

@rcollyer Hell,no
Curved RM is no girl

3:14 AM
@rcollyer ...well hell, bel has to be stoned for him to make that grievous error.

It's a toad

@belisarius You don't like these curves?

@J.M. I swear the only toxic around is beer

@J.M. would you put it past him. maybe he's been staring at the hypnotoad to long ...

Oh no, that leaves me. :-S

3:15 AM
@belisarius more correctly:
:This article refers to the song written by Jim Steinman, not the song performed by Modern Talking. "Good Girls Go to Heaven (Bad Girls Go Everywhere)" is a song written by Jim Steinman. It was first performed by Pandora's Box on their 1989 album Original Sin. Group member Holly Sherwood performed lead vocals. Like many Jim Steinman song titles, this song's title appears to be derived from a popular expression or figure of speech. "Good girls go to heaven, but bad girls go everywhere" made its way into popular culture through entertainer Mae West and also Helen Gurley Brown, author of th...

A: "If you kiss me, I'll turn into a beautiful girl. Why won't you kiss me?"
B: "Well damn, at my age, I'm more interested in talking toads..."
3

@J.M. Be my guest

@rcollyer ...somehow I had the impression that the expression was Mae West's...
@belisarius I'm not talking about myself, it's an old joke...

@J.M. it's likely older than that song. But, Jim Steinman is brilliant with lyrics.

@J.M. Don't try to convince me

3:17 AM
@J.M. Don't deny him that kiss

@belisarius I'm stating a fact, not propositioning. :P

@J.M. maybe he's had to much beer, and is confused.

@J.M. You were reading too much about dialectics lately

@rcollyer ...reminds me, I'm wondering about the words kids use today. Apparently there's no difference between "curious" and "confused"...
@belisarius *whistles*

Oh good... I thought he was reading too much about Dianetics

3:19 AM
@ℛ.ℳ I'd rather be bled from my spleen...

@ℛ.ℳ it makes good fiction ...

They all do.

@belisarius I didn't mean ticks on Diana...

@ℛ.ℳ My vanilla English says so

3:21 AM
@J.M. seriously. I've not encountered that here. Of course, my mother-in-law had students who insisted on calling tests: testis. Yes, it was very, very close in pronunciation to male genitalia.

@rcollyer Well "testa" is "head"
in Italian

@rcollyer It isn't her accent?

@ℛ.ℳ at least we know the author intended it that way. He figured it was the way to make it big: create a religion.

@J.M. She has boobs, not accent

@belisarius (: it is to bad they weren't italian.
@J.M. nope, just the kids being idiots.

3:24 AM
@rcollyer Every generation... :D

Anyway, I should go, it is approaching midnight here.
@J.M. doesn't ever change. :)

Wait ... what the hell means "testis"

@belisarius replace the "i" with and "e".

@belisarius Cojones, my friend.

@rcollyer yeah, yeah .. but "testis" ?

3:25 AM
@rcollyer Even with the i, it is valid. Just missing one...

@rcollyer ...and now it's plural.
"testis" - singular. "testes" - plural.

@J.M. or, juevos. Depending on who your talking to.

@J.M. Italian plurals go with "i" , certainly
Ladri

@rcollyer Ah, right. But I run with a rough crowd... :D

plural of Ladro

3:26 AM
@rcollyer Eventually you're going to end up at a Tequila brand and you'll bum everyone out for getting high on balls.

@J.M. yeah, you chemists are all the same:
Breaking Bad is an American television drama series created and produced by Vince Gilligan. Set and produced in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Breaking Bad is the story of Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a struggling high school chemistry teacher who is diagnosed with advanced lung cancer at the beginning of the series. He turns to a life of crime, producing and selling methamphetamine with a former student, Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), with the aim of securing his family's financial future before he dies. Premiering on January 20, 2008, the series is broadcast in the United States and Canada on ...

@rcollyer I found it rather unrealistic, but I liked Giancarlo Esposito. Badass, his character...

@J.M. never watched it. more amused by the premise.

@ℛ.ℳ "I wanted to be 'high as balls', not 'high on balls'!!"

3:28 AM
Have you seen this
Bicycle Thieves (), also known as The Bicycle Thief, is a 1948 Italian neorealist film directed by Vittorio De Sica. It tells the story of a poor man searching the streets of Rome for his stolen bicycle, which he needs to be able to work. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Luigi Bartolini and was adapted for the screen by Cesare Zavattini. It stars Lamberto Maggiorani as the poor man searching for his lost bicycle and Enzo Staiola as his son. It was given an Academy Honorary Award in 1950, and, just four years after its release, was deemed the greatest film of all time by...
You should

@J.M. how much time have you spent talking to americans? That is something I would not expect from someone not living here.

@rcollyer I've stayed in America for two years at a time before. Two years in California, two years in Maryland, and not counting the trips for conferences and such. Aggregate time... six or so years.

@J.M. Your soul is already lost

@J.M. that explains it. plenty of time to be corrupted. An Indian friend of mine was the same way.

So with just that, I get way too much exposure to American stuff.

3:31 AM
There's to much exposure?

@belisarius I'm sure I lost my soul even before I had a passport. :P

I'd say we don't expose ourselves enough.

@J.M. more lost, then

@rcollyer That's not the problem... it's more that the right people don't expose

@rcollyer Nothing shocks me anymore, see. Except maybe the time ℛ.ℳ explained the "glitter" thing a few days ago...

3:33 AM
@ℛ.ℳ very good point. There's way to many people who do, and shouldn't.
@J.M. I'm afraid to ask.

@rcollyer Don't ask
please

(I've steered pretty clear of what my niece is nuts about, so...)

@belisarius the begging makes me very curious.
@J.M. smart move.

@rcollyer Please, please. Keep your curiosity in ...

@rcollyer You know what happened to the cat...

3:35 AM
@rcollyer it's in the transcript, if you don't mind digging. Anyway...

@J.M. Remember you are mods
Composure

...I won't be responsible for any further sanity lost upon viewing. ;P

what sanity.

@J.M. A sanity checking here should return a big red X

@belisarius I'm well aware that mine went a long time ago, but the lot of you seemed like you still have a few bits left. :P

3:38 AM
There is sanity in. Insanity
@J.M. C'mon, you are one more toad
Damn, I was trying to program functionally a recursive clustering algorithm half an hour ago. The code now looks like Chinese
You are the culprits

Just for you @belisarius, Good Night all.

@belisarius ...that's what the For[] loops were for?

@rcollyer g'nights
@J.M. yep, I made it first iterative, Much easier
Now in Chinese
I should start learning Chinese. I could understand my code better

Sometimes, there are algorithms that can't help but look shoehorned if you try to "functionalize" them...
...or make them recursive. Or whatever.

@J.M. Yep, But the iterative thing takes forever in Mma. I must "map" it or turn to C
Perhaps I should start rethinking it from a fresh start. Many times iterative things need lateral thinking to be translated to functional jargon
@J.M. Whatever .. it's too late here. G'night JM, and congrats again

4:30 AM
@belisarius See ya later.

@ℛ.ℳ @verbeia Closing this as NC seems plain wrong to me. Perhaps TL (and sure RTFM) but not NC. The close reason description is total nonsense in this context (debate, arguments, extended discussions about a plain, answerable question?)

@SjoerdC.deVries Shouldn't that be in the other room?

@Mr.Wizard If you think so, though I asked J.M. to remove me from the room's ownerlist.

@SjoerdC.deVries Go back there and read the comments.

We have been discussing closures in here plenty of time too, haven't we?

@SjoerdC.deVries But of course; however, since you specifically addressed two of the moderators rather than all the people who voted to close that question I thought perhaps you were confused regarding your virtual location. ;-)

9:50 AM
@Mr.Wizard I was just being lazy, and picking the people most concerned

Wiz, I'd like to think Sjoerd has enough sense to know where the hell he is... ;)
Hmm, didn't notice Sjoerd's new Gravatar until now. Nice choice.

10:06 AM
@SjoerdC.deVries To be fair, I think I clicked on the same reason that the previous voters did. I felt that the tone of it was overly argumentative. If it could be edited to be a bit more moderate in tone and the community wanted to reopen it, I'd be happy to assist.

@Verbeia It's not my intention to have it reopened, but I wanted to indicate that the close reason might look silly to any future visitor.

10:21 AM
Man, too bad we can't have custom close reasons...

10:32 AM
Why is no one voting to close this here?

Q: Using NDsolve twice

student_curiousSubscript[N, 1]'[t] == (\[Beta]*(\[CapitalDelta]roNL*IP)^2)/( 2*h*V*Wpump) - Subscript[N, 1][t]/\[Tau]fc

In its current form it doesn't meet any requirements for a question at all.

@halirutan I don't want a unilateral close. I wouldn't mind being the fourth or fifth voter, tho.

@J.M. It's his 3th question in that style.

I know, I know, but I'm still holding out for the miracle that s/he'll respond to comments...

@J.M. I manged to post a whole question to the wrong SE site so I allow that it's quite possible to get the wrong chat room now and again. :^)

Hi all

10:37 AM
@Mr.Wizard Not a beta?

@belisarius Hi bel

Pardon, what?
If I follow, yes, they were both beta sites at the time. Still...

@Mr.Wizard "the wrong SE site" - it wasn't a beta SE site? I'd understand, with the similar look-and-feel they insist on.

Anyone followed the election in WebApps? Now THAT was a true mess!

@Mr.Wizard Ah, then not that bad. :)

10:39 AM
@belisarius I saw the references to it but no; do tell!

@belisarius Can you indulge my laziness and talk about the juicy stuff?

@Mr.Wizard going to post a link right to the core of it. Wait
@J.M. Non describable :D
This guy was a candidate
Now, Im posting a link to ELU

@belisarius who is "this"?

He was also a candidate there first, so I think there are historical reasns to check this first OMG

@belisarius Ah, now I know. Schmuck's especially (in)famous on meta.SO as well...

10:44 AM
@belisarius Wow.

So he wreaked havoc on WebApps too, then.

Interesting, isn't it? He brings color to any election
@J.M. link to webapps

@belisarius ...yes, that sickly green color of decomposing flesh...

don't miss www.evancarroll.com

10:46 AM
@Mr.Wizard Is it safe?
Because of a court order (injunction), I was taken off line for three years (2006-2009)
OMG

@Mr.Wizard I'm not sure I should visit; it might cause my IQ and EQ to decline further...

And I thought our election was interesting!
interesting like in the Chinese proverb was that one

@belisarius which one?

@belisarius I was thinking this guy was just amusing himself with a fake persona, but the Real Estate License link makes me think it's all real.

@J.M. Well, the comments under his nomination on ELU are really ... colorful

10:50 AM
Nono, I mean which proverb?

@J.M. link

@Mr.Wizard Oh, it's a curse, not a proverb. :)
And a very backhanded one at that.

@J.M. It is a Chinese curse: "May you live in interesting times"

The double-whammy version goes like "may you have an interesting life, and may you find what you're seeking."

@J.M. xD

10:53 AM
The interesting thing is that SE personnel took the thing personally :D
and discredited him all over the place
hilarious

Short question from a European having not clue who Evan Carroll is: Did all of you know him before?

@halirutan I knew him from SO meta

@belisarius And he is the hacker or what?

@halirutan You can't ask about what he is. That question in nonsense. :D

@halirutan I only read about his (in)famous exploits in meta.SO, to be honest. He fits the type of guy I'd kick in the teeth in RL.

11:00 AM
@J.M. I'm currently reading some of his posts.. He seems nice ;-)

@J.M. He sustained long arguments with Jeff, now mostly gone

@belisarius Yes, I had the (dis)pleasure to read them before the offending posts were nuked...

He assumed the freedom paladin position. "Freedom" like in "you are all stupids".

This one is cool

Q: Why is the establishment allowed to stifle my ability to campaign?

Evan CarrollIn this question, the following verbiage was repeatedly removed -- this inhibited my ability to answer the question. We all know Evan Carroll isn't yet a moderator on English.StackOverflow, but he ought to be and he'll win the election if enough people vote for Evan Carroll next week! I'd l...

@halirutan hehe, yes I specially like the answers he got

11:06 AM
@halirutan I love the vote count... :D

Why the establishment makes my NDSolve[] attempts never ending?
I could send that one to Wolfram

@belisarius *laughter* *facepalm*

Superpings seem to go differently than before
I used to get a menu where I could enter a name or ID. Ah, darn. It is a mod thing!

@SjoerdC.deVries I haven't got your ping

Probably one of the privileges I lost with the diamond.

@SjoerdC.deVries Oh, it's Ok. Enjoy your well deserved rest

@belisarius I should do that. Wednesday is my part-time day. Working half a day from home, but due to this never-ending question I already spent too much time here. Now, I have to pick it up in the other half meant for household chores and some study.

12:07 PM
@SjoerdC.deVries Ayi, I'd say the chores and study are way more important than us. :)

12:52 PM
@J.M. You here? piiiinnngg
Any mod?
