@ChristianHummeluhr - Thought to make a separate conversation :) Can I ask you if you are actively voting-to-close a great many questions? I have initiated a similar vote-to-close spree in the past (with limited success, contrary to yours, if it was you). the answer-rate is pretty low and I think that's partly due to vague questions.

Yes. I am reviewing questions in ascending order of date. There are many off topic and unsalvageable questions, or questions where the work involved in salvaging them exceeds the effort that went into writing them. I vote for closure on these.

@ChristianHummeluhr I see. great work.
it's just with some I voted 'no' as I think I can answer them.
Are you striving to a 90% answer rate, or just cleaning up CogSci (if I may ask)
Most of the ones i agree, some of them I simply skip as I have a Neuroscience background

Both. I deliberately err on the side of closure, so it is fine. In my experience, people are not comfortable with closing questions, so I see it as necessary.
If I am wrong, I trust the closure vote will fail.

yes, Cognitive Sciences seems to be very conservative in closure

To say that there is a "hands off" approach to moderation would be an understatement.

12:50 PM
@ChristianHummeluhr - but at Biology it has tipped over to the other end I think. There many are closed within a few hours after posting.
What do you mean with "hands off"
?
And are you a moderator? You seem to invest heaps of time in assessing the merits of Q as well as A

I am not a mod.
It doesn't take too long, but it does cut into my Twitter time.

Hahaha
I basically stopped facebook because of it ;)
You live in the Netherlands?
I'm Dutch
Did you move there from Germany for work?

I live here, but I'm actually Danish.
And I moved for a woman, naturally.

Haha that makes sense
Where do you live?
I lived in Utrecht before I left

Groningen. You?
Ah.
I have a lot of friends there, I've come to understand Groningen is kind of the boonies.

12:53 PM
Groningen is amazing. You are affiliated to UMCG ?

GMW methodology.

Hahaha it's a bit remote, but nice
interesting, what is GMW? Groningen Medical W... ?

Behavioral science. UMCG are those guys that hog all the funding. shakes fist

hahaha
Nice perspective
I'm off, get some sleep

We're a bitter bunch, we know it.
Goodnight.

12:55 PM
it was very nice talking to you!
Haha you're OK :D
I'll see you around for sure

Likewise. Perhaps we could do this again in the regular chat sometime. :v

Will be moving back to Netherlands at the end of the year btw
yes we should!
What is the regular chatrroom?

Oh, so that's why chat died.

I don't chat often and i'm not sure how it works. Plus, the question on the close-vote spree was perhaps a bit sensitive

It is what it is.

12:57 PM
:)

I played softball two years ago and it was like punching a pillow.

So Axon terminal is where I can ping you in the future?

Ah great! You know, I'm pretty much a newbie

(Chat's name is Wilson, dammit. WILSON!)

12:58 PM
Just pretending
Hahaha
is your name Wilson?
I can ping you with @ChristianHummeluhr right?

It's Christian.
I guess!

I feel kind of ignorant now...

I don't know how it works, I just type in letters and press send.

Cool

If you click the StackExchange menu link, there's a link to the chat
I think it used to be much more prominent, so presumably that's why it died.

1:00 PM
No I mean with the different rooms and where to go. Still finding out. I would love to chat to Krysta (seems very knowledgeable and dedicated too)
Ah I see.
Anyway, good talking to you. Your English language use is superb btw

Yes, I was actually hoping that both you and they would show up in chat. Krysta seems to share my silent frustration.

see ya!

Thank you, and goodnight.

frustration?
I keep on talking ahaha

I think I'd better leave you on a cliffhanger here so as to not keep you up.
We can talk another time.

1:03 PM
Will find out about the frustration later then. keen to hear. Not for the juiciness, but to get insight in what's up. The closing spree is good to know it's you and why. I support that.
Yep
yep!
