@amWhy Can I ask what 'Kia' means, please?

@soupless Apparently a shortening of Kiawe, the deleted account I wrangled with

Oh, thank you. I thought it was some kind of acronym.

By the way, @TeresaLisbon I voted to close my own question. Should it be closed or deleted?
This question, by the way.

@soupless Why did you do that? If there was something badly off with the post you can delete it and post a new question, maybe.
I don't see anything worth closing about the question. Perhaps duplicate, but there's no point if there's no answer and you can delete it.

6:25 AM
Ok, thank you.
I lost my 'interest', if that's the term, though I still want to update it. You can say that it is 'on-hold' for now

@soupless There's no answer, but it seems that there's been one significant update. I would say add updates after the question itself, even if you are modifying the question so that the original intention is undliuted. You can then keep your question open, as long as some duplicate doesn't come along (I am unsure of this , but just placing it on record).

I'll make a significant edit, then I'll undelete it, but not now, still under a lot of projects to do
Sorry

@soupless no problem , take your time

@KReiser One delete vote left.

@TeresaLisbon It's too broad. The first question is easily a duplicate, and the second is probably a dupe too (e.g. calculus of variations type questions). As yet the OP has shown no research/effort on their part so that could be another reason to close.

@TheSimpliFire Thanks, I suspected as much.

@XanderHenderson Can you move this question to the link suggested in the last comment? If not I'll ask the author to copy-paste the question there, thanks.

11:23 AM
@amWhy I haven't tried this out yet, but perhaps AutoReviewComments - Pro-forma comments for SE might be what you're looking for?

12:05 PM
@TeresaLisbon We typically avoid migration unless we know that it will be accepted at the new site. In this case, I think that the user is better off reposting the question themselves.

My flags here have all either been marked helpful, declined, or aged away:
May 4 at 20:19, by The Amplitwist
@TheAmplitwist I've gone ahead and flagged some of those posts that I found asking, "How do I find a rational between another rational and $\sqrt{2}$?" as a duplicate of Need help with proof for Dedekind cuts on $\mathbb{Q}^+$. If the outcomes from the review queue again turn out to be inconclusive, then I'll post the links here for feedback.
So, I'll just post a few requests for further feedback, not more than 5.

12:24 PM
Please see the three questions Dedekind cuts: Showing that the set B has no smallest element and Finding Rational numbers and Show that the set $A=\{x\in \mathbb{Q}^+| x^2>2\}$ has no least element in $\mathbb{Q}$. They all ask for how to find a rational between $\sqrt{2}$ and another rational $> \sqrt{2}$.
Perhaps it's incorrect to mark them as a duplicate of Need help with proof for Dedekind cuts on $\mathbb{Q}^+$ since that question asks how to find a rational between $\sqrt{2}$ and another rational $< \sqrt{2}$, but I thought that it should be fine since the techniques are not different.

12:53 PM
@XanderHenderson I'll let that be known to the user, thanks.

@amWhy You got two of them and a delete vote to boot now.

@Teresa, [this is one of the the questions you listed among 5]math.stackexchange.com/q/4133141/9003), which needs two more delete votes. I'm the first delete voter there.

@amWhy Needs one more delete vote now.

@amWhy, @TeresaLisbon: gone now

@ParamanandSingh Thanks, Teresa and Paramanand!!

Close queue is still above 500. Don't know how long it will stay there.

@ParamanandSingh Thank you, I hope the close queue recedes, I mentioned it as being at 542 about 9 hours ago, so I hope it comes down.

@ParamanandSingh Will mod alert in the moderators' office chatroom.
@ParamanandSingh et al. See below

MOD ALERT: The close vote review queue now exceeds 500 awaiting reviews. We could use moderator support again, @Xander, @quid, @Alexander, et al. Perhaps one of you will help me host a "Close-vote review queue" party in the Cafe and Tavern on the math.se chat room! :-) Any/all help is appreciated.

@TeresaLisbon the close queue has been slowly increasing from just over 400 for the last three or four days. My hope is that its because more people are attending to the EoQS and so are flagging low-quality questions, for all that I'd also like to see some more people reviewing. Caught between Scylla and Charybdis I guess.

2:16 PM
@postmortes Good point. Now we need to recruit more users to participate in the review queues. But it's also the end of the semester in some parts, which tends to result in an upsurge in low quality questions posted on this site.

@amWhy that's also a good point; I'm a little distant from most educational systems these days and it hadn't occurred to me!

@postmortes: nice phrase "Scylla and Charybdis". I wasn't aware of it. There is an equivalent in Hindi also which is like on one side there is well and on the other side there is gorge.

For the last question I have given link to EoQS for the answerer
Don't know for sure if they have been notified of EoQS earlier by someone here.

2:40 PM
@ParamanandSingh It's now closed and open for deletion; but as there are no answers, I think we're safe to let Roomba handle the deletion.

3:02 PM
@ParamanandSingh I think they have been, most likely, but no problem, now I'll keep track of that.

@ParamanandSingh Open for deletion.

@ParamanandSingh Frequent low quality question asker alert.

Hmm. I am confused.
The OP in this question seems to seek a proof of a rule of logarithms.
Link: https://math.stackexchange.com/q/4135269/888233

@TeresaLisbon: you are referring to the asker of the last question I linked?

3:15 PM
@ParamanandSingh Correct (clicking on the little grey arrow will lead you to the comment and therefore question which I'm referring to).
@soupless I'm going to sound a little funny here, but I don't see what's there to "try" there, I mean, unless the exponential and ln functions aren't defined as inverses of each other, the answer should be obvious.

@soupless: maybe they can include the definitions of log and exp in the question.

@TeresaLisbon I am confused because the proof also depends on the definitions of exponentials and logarithms,

@soupless Exactly, so what we'll have to do is either wait for the definitions, OR go to Wikipedia or some nice website, take out some list of rules and say : are these the rules you are talking about? Or something like that. This user has a deeper issue if they are not able to get this question, one that can't be answered at the moment.

I hope that OP will not say that it is 'obvious' that they are referring to the definitions we know.

@soupless I hope so as well. The reply would then be : if the definitions are obvious, then your proof is obvious!

3:24 PM
'Obvious' is a no-no word in math, am I correct?
Or so I thought.
Wait, let me check my references for that.

PSQ additionally a super-duplicate is expected for this question.
@soupless Depends on the level, and we don't know the level. That's the problem.
PSQ Note : OP is fan of integral PSQs.

Here it is, @TeresaLisbon

> The word "obvious" is a dangerous one. It is often said, not always facetiously, that when a mathematician says something is obvious, he means one of two things: either the statement isn't true or he can't prove it.

Differential and Integral Calculus, Love and Rainville

@soupless I'll change obvious to "easily discernible" then! Because as far as I see , the statement is true (on specified domain/codomain) and I can prove it (I mean, give me the definitions first, OP!)
But that's a brilliant quote, one to keep in mind for a dinner time conversation.
PSQ Note : first answerer has been EoQSed, second answerer notes that the question is low quality but has still answered it, and has been EoQSed before.

@TeresaLisbon I remembered that when I scanned for details about my question about the 'rigorous' proof of the area of an ellipse, if you remember. (Have to stop in the moment to avoid off-topic discussions)

@soupless Yes, I do remember (yes, we'll cut this short but I know where you are coming from).

Am I being too harsh in my comments below this meta question?. Initially I downplayed the importance of figuring out which answer was better, by whatever measure. But they, seeing the question.... ???
I just want others' feedback, that's all.
@TeresaLisbon It's gone. Thank you!

@amWhy Looks fine to me.

@XanderHenderson Whew, thanks!!

Though I generally feel that an answer should answer the question. So "go google [thing]" is really more of a comment. (Though I didn't follow any of the links in the meta question.)

@XanderHenderson Oh, I agree. I'm not fond of that either, but I was NOT going to play the meta asker's "game"! And they were both sort of "guessing" what would help the asker most, rather that asking for clarification from the asker.

4:43 PM
@XanderHenderson Isn't that 'go google [thing]' a violation of guidelines or something?

"I'm pretending to not name names, but this is the problem I answered, and the (one and only one) "other user"... blah, blah. Whose answer was more appropriate?"

@amWhy I am intentionally ignoring the subtext, and focusing on the text.

"Please don't consider this a plea for upvotes." It seems as it was, though. But yes.

@XanderHenderson The text itself indicates a need to hear, "you were better, they were worst". In any case, I do not like posts that directly, or indirectly, point fingers at other users. Link: Tell me who's right?? That's hardly subtext.

@amWhy Both were right. Which one helped OP the most? That may be the question.

4:52 PM
@soupless: that only the OP can tell and not the answerer or users on meta.

@ParamanandSingh In my opinion, the other answer is the one that can really help since OP asked how to find the number of trailing zeros of n! and the answer is the formula for all natural number n. The user who posted on Meta provided the steps for the case that the OP provided, but not for the generalized case.

5:26 PM
@ParamanandSingh I think Scylla and Charybis is a little out of favour these days, though I quite like it. I do like the Hindi version, that's quite evocative!

And I really do need to get to grading... much as I don't want to, hanging out here is a form of procrastination today. :\

@XanderHenderson: it's not procrastination, but addiction of mathse.

@ParamanandSingh No, I really don't want to grade. I just don't want to fight the LMS.

Then please do the grading. Future of many students are hanging with thin threads.
@postmortes: glad to know you liked the Hindi version.

D comment : "$2+2=4$ makes as much sense as $0^{\infty}=0$" . Not true !

5:44 PM
@Peter But it makes as much sense as $0/0$ :P

@vitamind $0^{\infty}$ probably makes more sense than $0/0$, as limits of the form $0^{\infty}$ are not indeterminate (if $f(x) \to 0$ and $g(x) \to \infty$, then $f(x)^{g(x)} = 0$, assuming that the expression $f(x)^{g(x)}$ makes sense).

@XanderHenderson me thinks someone is still procrastinating ;P

@XanderHenderson It was a joke :), Peter once said that 0/0=1, right @Peter?

I mean, when Quora has 47 answers on the subject, we really, really ought to be sending the OP there.

@amWhy Yes, mom.

5:51 PM
47 answers means that every context is covered, including a "black hole" perspective of things.

@XanderHenderson That's momWhy!

@amWhy Is the user who wrote the messages which got deleted in our room? Or am I mistaken?

@vitamind That's them. I will alert mods about them doing that. Only you can move their message to trash.

@amWhy I don't know how I can move messages into trash. Do you want to create another room where you are the owner?

@vitamind, I am sorry they are invading your chat room. To move to trash, click on the room down-triangle on the right-hand side above miniature avitar pictures. A menu will open, after which you can click on "move messages".... you'll have a +-sign cursor to select the posts you want to send to trash, if more than one post, hold Ctrl key while also clicking on whatever other comment you want to include. Then click on the "relocate" option, and write in the text field Trash. Then when it
when it pops up, click select.
It's okay, @vitamind. We can focus on how to do that later. I flagged for "chat mod attention, with a brief summary" their most recesnt comment. But I'm uncomfortable talking more in chat.
It's no problem, @vitamind. That user likely accomplished what they set out to do. To sow doubt in CURED users... Post a comment just so you could read it, then delete it, twice.

8:49 PM
@amWhy Are you here?
