I believe this question needs to be closed, as it is asking, in part, for evaluation of the cited papers and for users' opinions on their merits.

@rschwieb Thanks. It is going to be another couple of weeks before the degree is officially conferred (we are on a quarter system, not a semester system, so we have another couple of weeks before paperwork gets filed). I'll almost certainly submit an entry to math genealogy at that time.
