@user21820 Regarding D1, I agree that it is not a good question. However, I would like to solicit opinions about how such puzzles can be presented on MSE (rather than Puzzling) without being off-topic. IMO, adding an attempt does not improve such a question, and I am not sure that a link to a source is necessarily sufficient. Is it possible for such a question to be really on-topic here (again, rather than on Puzzling)?

@XanderHenderson Exactly... In my opinion, posts about puzzles belong to Math SE iff (i.e. if and only if) they are about the mathematics behind the puzzle and not about solving the puzzle alone. This is a subjective criterion, but it definitely excludes "here is a puzzle for you" kind of 'questions'.

But it would include things like "I saw this puzzle and tried to generalize it to ... Is there any further generalization?" or "I solved this puzzle using this [mathematics/trick]. However, is there a better/systematical approach?".

@XanderHenderson I know, he left seconds before my comment above yours! :( Can we bring @Jyrki back as a moderator, citing a "reluctant ruler" mandate, explaining that he's just to valuable as a mod, to not have reinstated? (Of course, I would never force him to reclaim his rightful title, but......).
