@Criggie A good bike mechanic should have a spot welder, no?!?!
06:46
I have a battery spot welder, tool for the job etc.
07:44
A good battery is a spot welder.

It won't be good anymore after that...

@Erlkoenig what would a bike mechanic need a spot welder for? o.O
attaching cable stops to a steel frame is the only thing I can think of
11:41
Spot welder wouldn't be any good for that - a braze on fitting tends to need brazing.
Spot welding is only good for thin things like perhaps mudguards ?

@Michael For rebuilding e-bike batteries! The cells need to be spot-welded to the power rails. Doing this as a business is probably pretty lucrative
@Erlkoenig are you “allowed” to open them up and just replace the 18650 cells? Who’s taking the blame if they catch fire and somebody’s house burns down?
16:47
You are allowed to, but you will be liable unless you can prove you did it according to best practices.

@Erlkoenig even ignoring the shitty soldering job, the wire they used looks awfully tiny...
Maybe it's intentional--the pack will desolder itself if it overheats :D

@MaplePanda Yeah it's terrible on several levels. Soldering is fundamentally wrong for this application
