@Criggie IMO it's one of those things that you would ideally do, but probably doesnt matter too much either way
most decent quality carbon frames these days have three slots though
or it'll be a road bike with an integrated wedge-style clamp

Not much trouble to turn the clamp by π. Gut feeling: sounds legit, should get round compression instead of ovalising the post. After all there's friction between clamp collar and frame that will lead to deformation by pinching.
