Since most people don't brake all that much the rear discs often rust a lot.
Brake fade or overheating shouldn't matter all that much since most braking is from the front where disc rust isn't all that much of an issue.

Rear disks are biased by using smaller pads and sometimes smaller rotors too.
any rotor rust is wiped of pretty quickly, and takes a couple of days to reappear.
mmmm shopping for new tyres - the conti GP5000 are available, over $150 NZ each :-!
Most trucks still use drum brakes, because they're better for long duration brake periods. Just like leaf springs live on in heavy load situations like trucks, utes, and train bogeys.

It seems it takes quite a bit of braking at the rear to get the rust off. In regular local or city traffic people seem to go for quite a while without much braking. Efficient drivers accelerate intensely when lights turn green and then roll out till the next red lights. Just takes a tap on the brakes to stop at the line then.
I thought trucks use retarders for long brake periods?
I mean trucks in HGV, not as in Hillux or Land Cruiser.
150NZ
(exclamation point)
Given the usually extreme prices in NZ, that's rather moderate still.
89 EUR
They go for 50 here (for the 32-622 tubeless)
old fashioned are a little cheaper.
But if one is happy without TL, the GP 4000 are about as good. Slightly slower rolling, but slightly better puncture resistance.
Cost about 35 EUR

yeah even at wiggle its still spendy
I have 32 from the old road bike but they don't fit the new one

I didn't know there were GP 4000 in 32.
I thought 28 was the largest. I should have considered them for my commutes.
Damn happy though with the tyres Rider-X recommended.
I'm going more than half of my commute on smooth gravel ways. Pure road tyres aren't my first choice.
I did not realise that going on roads not only means having the constant nuisance of cars.
But there is also hardly ever any shade.
They cut down all the trees lining the roads in the 50s to make roads safer for people going too fast.
Criggie, does the sun give you more trouble when riding the 'bent?
A larger cross section of unprotected skin may be exposed since youre head is angled up rather than down.

Absolutely sun is a problem. FOr me I ride into the sun on the way to work in the morning, and again on the way home. Its really bad around the shortest day because I'm riding right into it on the horizon. Now around the longest days its still well up when I'm riding.
For the bent I had to get a cycling cap with a bill/brim/visor and wear that under the helmet.
I also seem to tan the neck area more than on an upright. THe arms are about the same as normal though.

Q: Can I share a link to my bike question on other StackExchange site?

Alex DoeI am a cross country cycling enthusiast and I ran into some legal issues which I am having a hard time getting over. I asked a question on "law" site of stackexchange and it seems like I am outnumbered by cops (maybe?) I was wondering if I can get your opinion on it. If it's ok, here it is ...
