Q: I need help tracking down what bmx I have

SimonI'm struggling with finding out what bmx I have, I originally bought it as a mid life crisis thing and thought about restoration of a bmx, the guy I bought it from claimed it was a diamondback from the 80s,but I'm not so sure.. I have contacted diamondback direct and they can't confirm that it is...

What causes this urge in owners of old BMX to know where exactly it came from?
I can understand that when its about some old quality bikes, say from before the 60s.
