@gschenk, do you have any idea how reliable Nexus-8 is? I'm tempted by this Cannondale Quick from around 2013 probably. I remember reading on Sheldon Brown's website that pedaling while stranding up is not recommended.

@CristianCiupitu Yeah, I found out about that at the weekend. There's still stock out there though.
19:06
@CristianCiupitu - can you fit a nexus 8 on a cannondale quick? you need horizontal dropouts or an eccentric BB or something to use an internal gear hub without a chain tensioner
the cheapest chain tensioner is just to use an old derailleur, and if you take that route (shimano CT-S500, for example, is an alternative that works on the same principle, though no paralellogram), i don't see the point.
you also have a type that clamps to the chainstay
19:50
@Batman well, that's the only model I've noticed with an internal hub.
@CristianCiupitu - well if it ships with one, i guess it has horizontal dropouts or whatever
US side, they don't sell a quick with IGH afaik
Newer models don't have it indeed. That one is before 2015, I'd say even 2014.

biker-boarder.de/shopware/… seems to be a similar to model to the one I found at my local bike shop
ah, ok
I've just noticed that the new Bad Boy 1 comes with Alfine 8.
seems like it. 1840 dollars though. I could buy 2 nice derailleur hybrids for commuting for that price.
What I don't understand is why does it has a chain on their website, while rumors said it should have a belt. Even REI supposedly sold a belt version which is not available anymore.
Yeah, expensive as ... Definitely not for me. And I hate leftys too. Can't trust half a fork :-)

yes yes @CristianCiupitu but can you trust a ludicrously overbuilt headtube and hub?
21:51
@CristianCiupitu I've no idea how Shimano 7 speed do. I've seen a paper on drive efficiency where Sachs were slightly better than the rest. If I were to get or build a bike with a IGH I'd get a used one or just salvage one from an abandoned bike.
I saw a broken bike chained to a train station where someone cut out the hubs with wire clips. I don't know if that was done before or after the bike was abandoned though.
The 'dale quick in your link appears to have an eccentric BB.

I just researched getting a nice(ish) belt drive bike. What a mess.
23:26
@SuspendedUser what an expensive mess. Only Cube and Canyon seem to have something for mere mortals, although they're probably less reliable. For example they use the eco belt version from Continental or the CDN from Gates instead of CDX if I remember correctly.
23:48
cube isn't very common in the US
same with canyon
