Sachs Huret (when they existed) sold a hub specifically for this purpose: the DualDrive. It had a 3-speed internal gear, and was designed to work with a 7-speed freewheel. And of course you could stick a triple in front, for 63 speeds. I think some Greenspeed trikes were sold with this setup.

that sounds awesome.

Hi all, is this chat box also open to questions or am I better off asking on the site?
I'm not sure about the rules on this stackexchange

This is the whole bike, before the work on it.
And this the chain/gear area after the work.

@user55789 depends - the chat is a lot more back-and-forth so works well for questions that aren't structured.
@user55789 the main site is good for well structured questions that can be clearly defined.
@Willeke nice - so its a Moving BB recumbent delta trike with underseat steering

@Criggie, I think you are right, but I am not as familiar with the English names as I am with the Dutch. The front part moves as a whole, including the front fork, with the point of turning under the seat.

well - I can't think of a single Dutch word, so you're doing better than me :)
"MBB" is a common abbreviation

In Dutch I just call it the Flevo trike, the one that bends in the middle. Those who know the bike and trike know what I am talking about, the rest would not know it even if I spelled it out or used pictures.

@Nobody, I am amazed how little overlap there is. I mostly wanted the internal hub gears to be able to gear down quick at traffic lights and when I had to make an unexpected stop. But I find that the third gear is all above what I already had, adding 6 gears or so.
Sorry, I do not know about gear ratios, never wondered about that, as long as they do what I want.

7:52 PM
Loverly. Never seen one around here ever.

8:03 PM
I had never seen one either, or at least one consiously, till I found this one second hand while I was looking at Flevo Green machines. When I saw it, I had to have it.
Knowing the details, I might well have seen them before, the cover of the box is a give away. Living on the Nordsea cycle route (as well as several more local routes) I do see many bikes (and trikes) just once.

8:36 PM
How is it on cornering ? I would expect it to be a little tippy ?
that is, does it want to flip?

It does not want to flip, but I am still tending to oversteer, which is easy to do, specially at lower speeds.
Once you get the hang of it, you do not use your hands. Some say that when things seem to go wrong, get your hands away from the handlebars.

OK cool. Do you use flat pedals or clipless ?

The rear wheels both stay stable on the floor, the top part of the bike leans, like a normal bike does, independent of the wheels.
I use flat pedals, never used clips nor clipless and I am forever moving my feet around on the pedals.
Got to go, see you soon.

9:09 PM
OK sweet - I might search for some video on this bike
sounds awesome
