@JimmyHoffa was not I but I did see a Horchata ale the other day

12:19 AM
eh, sounds too sweet for my tastes
the root beer ale works because it's more rich/spiced tasting than sweet

12:44 AM
@JimmyHoffa I did see a hop cider at the store

now that sounds interesting, I like bitter and sour together, I'll have to try and find that

user15026
@WorldEngineer That sounds excellent

that's what google says

Folks, is Template Method and Hook the same thing by different names?

12:59 AM
@WorldEngineer oo that sounds good, everything Angry Orchard does is great so I'll have to check by their stuff next time

user20683
@JimmyHoffa It's at Publix here so I'd assume Safeway there

@WorldEngineer grocery stores can only do 3.2 in Colorado
wierd law to protect liquor store industry

user20683
@JimmyHoffa I forget that a lot of the west is like that. I think ours is like 6ish? I don't recall. I know there's a much more expensive license for selling spirits in GA

1:33 AM
@NickAlexeev - no, not generally.

2:03 AM
@WorldEngineer no, just Colorado and Utah I believe
don't think 3.2 is a thing anywhere else
Huh, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Minnesota too
Low-alcohol beer (also called light beer, non-alcoholic beer, small beer, small ale, or near-beer) is beer with low alcohol content or no alcohol, which aim to reproduce the taste of beer without the inebriating effects of standard alcoholic brews. Most low-alcohol beers are lagers, but there are some low-alcohol ales. In the United States, beverages containing less than 0.5% alcohol by volume (ABV) were legally called non-alcoholic, according to the now-defunct Volstead Act. Because of its very low alcohol content, non-alcoholic beer may be legally sold to minors in many American states. In the...
Pennsylvanias "You can only buy beer in bulk or for a ridiculous up-charge from a restaurant" is the dumbest anti-competition laws I've ever seen
I can't say anything bad about their state run liquor stores though; they were all identical and that "identical" was actually quite a high quality and comprehensive selection.
Great prices too because they were state run

@Telastyn Hook is a fairly old design pattern. Is Hook a non object oriented spiritual precursor to Template Method?

No.
Chain of Responsibility perhaps, but even then it implies different uses/behaviors.
A hook is just a hook.
afk

@Telastyn Odd thing: when I look up hook design pattern on Google, 90% of search results go to pages that describe the Template Method design pattern. I'm trying to find the historical explanation for this.
What got me started was this Miro Samek's app note about pattern which he calls "Ultimate Hook". He didn't invent the term Ultimate Hook. It was mentioned in 1995 by Petzold in his book on Win 95 programming. The context is plain C. WinMain(...) and WndProc(...) without classes.

I think there are two questions here. The first compares two methods of writing bots (which may be a better question on Programmers.stackexchange.com but possibly doesn't belong at Stack Overflow, and perhaps a question on waiting to load a page before pressing a button (perhaps in selenium?). I'd suggest asking the second part in a seperate question, and include any source code you've tried, and let us know what did not work. — Guy Schalnat 52 secs ago

@Ixrec that stageful builder was kind of fun to play with. github.com/shagie/StatefulBuilder for a quick bit of example code for it.

neat
too bad it seems like there's no way to autogenerate any of that, but I'm not that familiar with Java generics; could it be done?

user55340
Possibly. The thing is this one is understandable. Unless we are talking about huge builders with dozens of methods (and then your state table is going to get a bit more interesting if there are more transitions), we're talking about a few lines with a different return type.

compile time state machines...

The other thing I wanted to hint at was the different base types that the OP didn't ask about but I would probably do.

user55340
Kind of. Its a "once you get a Foo, the interface that it has precludes you from calling setBar".

7:13 PM
I'm just imagining what the C++ template metaprogram might look like

user55340
I have enough of a headache already.

Eric LippertC# Your task is to write a program for SAT that appears to execute in polynomial time. "Appears" is unnecessary. I can write a program that really does execute in polynomial time to solve SAT problems. This is quite straightforward in fact. MEGA BONUS: If you write a SAT-solver that ac...

yeah, I gave you the upvote for doing the actually useful thing
I remember that one
now back to watching Gary Bernhardt talk about TDD

I had second thoughts on posting this on programmers.stackexchange.com but wasn't sure so I didn't act accordingly — Rami Shareef 26 secs ago

I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because it belongs on programmers.stackexchange.com — leppie just now
