@JimG. I've not been able to access hacker news from home in two days

user20683
not sure why

^^^ This is actually pretty funny. TL;DR: For everything that somebody says, "Why don't people work on important problems?" Feel free to say, "Right back at you pal. What are YOU doing about these problems?"
@World Engineer: Seriously? Maybe a firewall or DNS issue?

user20683
@JimG. it's an error 324

user20683
not even sure what that one means

1:19 AM
EDIT: <everytime> // Darn iOS spellcheck.
@World Engineer: Ya! 324?? I've never seen that before.

@WorldEngineer Oh, that's... a tough one. Start by clearing your cache, especially if you are using Chrome (there was a bug that was supposedly fixed in 2010, resurfaced recently).

user20683
@YannisRizos did that

user20683
it's not working on either Chrome or Firefox

user20683
IE can't either

user20683
hmm

user20683
reboot my modem

3:19 AM
The error tells you that the connection was closed before the browser received any data. The likely causes are 1) the browser misreporting that it didn't receive any data, 2) the server closing the question without sending data, 3) something went horribly wrong anywhere in between. Unfortunately, it seems your problem is #3.
...and the problem could be anywhere, your modem, your network configuration, your ISP...
If you are on wireless, you should also try plugging in, it might be a WAN conf issue.

user20683
Wimax in my case

user20683
odd that I don't have issue with other sites

user20683
anyway things rebooted, let's find out...

Q: Building an EXE within C#?

Alex LarsenHow would I be able to build an EXE within C#. Like if I were to make a compiler in C# (I'm not, that sounds like a lot of work).

@YannisRizos Thank you. So, I've got my answer in there. I am pleased that someone else tracked it down in other sources.

Its awkward to find the question sometimes. Often I find myself scanning for the end to find the question itself and then rereading with that in mind. At times I wish there was a way to designate the actual question in the question. Something like "lots of background information ?How do I do foo? a bit more info". Then I could click something to make it highlighted to facilitate scanning for the question.

At times I wonder if the heavy handed solution of "block sites that match a dns lookup of .edu" would be an acceptable solution. I know it won't work... it just my head hurts from the "will you do my homework for me?"

Q: Why is scaling web applications harder than scaling static web content?

Muhammad KashifDescribe one common method to distribute requests evenly among a collection of web and application servers. What is the problem with this common method?

7:42 PM
