@WorldEngineer Wouldn't have mattered: the ancient celtic peoples didn't know about Doxygen-formatted comments.

@MarkTrapp I should have finished that sentence

user20683
also it's probable that the builders of stonehenge weren't celts

user20683
Nova did a special; they think that it was some kind of ritual feast thing linked to the solstices but not an observatory.

@MarkTrapp That, sir, is a heroic edit if ever I saw one. (In regards to the app rep question). I think it's a good question now but it still might be off topic. I'm on the fence

user2334
@WorldEngineer If I can see a good question buried in the rough, I'll do what I can to save it :P

user20683
@MarkTrapp it occurs to me that I might need an advanced math degree in order to properly use Haskell.

user2334
That sounds unfortunate

user20683
@MarkTrapp It's made of difficult. I suspect I just need to get to where I can do I/O

user20683
that should solve a great many issues with understanding it

that or just go learn C#

@YannisRizos thoughts on the current economic situation? How bad is it?

12:45 PM
@WorldEngineer It's extremely bad, and what seems to constantly fail to reach international media is the fact that almost all austerity measures target lower income tax payers. What also seems to escape international media is the fact that the widely reported and seemingly low retirement age requirements only apply to very specific categories of workers, like workers in biochemical plants and other hazardous environments, or mothers of three or more children.
Civil unrest is at a critical point, last night was exceptionally bad. Other than that, I'd prefer not to discuss the debt crisis or anything related, one of the reasons of me being very active on P.SE these past few months was to escape reality.

@Apologies, trying to get a better grasp on the world; not be "one of those ignorant Americans"

2:10 PM
@WorldEngineer Don't worry about it, it's more that if I start talking you won't be able to shut me up... The way I see it, it's mostly an internal snafu, blaming the world for it is dishonest. Daily life hasn't changed drastically for most, but unemployment rates are raising extremely fast. Where I work we secured a vc fund just before the crisis became evident (in financial circles), so we are doing better than most. Will shut up now. :P

I absolutely hate it when I see comments saying a post is bad, but no downvotes. If you feel a question / answer is bad, and don't have anything constructive to say, just downvote, that way you make it a lot easier for everyone to find bad posts and improve them... Comments are useless if you are not asking for clarifications or suggesting improvements. Use the voting system, please, you may think you are being nice, but you are not. [/rant]

user20683
@YannisRizos I don't use the voting system negatively but I do leave constructive comments.

@YannisRizos Hats-off for surviving testing times and still being cool. Democracy do has its failures. Won't discuss further on this chat. But would take time-off for a huge discussion if you are seriously interested. Would be back tomorrow.

@oded here's a cookie for making me laugh. "Stop whatever you did to make it continuously scroll"

@WorldEngineer There is nothing negative about down votes, imho. Part of the review system, nothing more... Every downvote helps get more attention to poor posts, so we can improve them. If people don't bother improving posts, that's a different issue. But many do, and we can help them find bad posts easier. Constructive comments are great, but still are only addressed to the OP, downvotes are addressed to the community.
Anyways, was venting a bit because I saw a few comments that made absolutely no sense to me.

user20683
@YannisRizos you are a hacker, I am a theorist. We have different viewpoints

@WorldEngineer Hmm, different viewpoints or not, downvotes as a signal that a post is in need of help work wonders. Not saying constructive comments don't, but they don't reach the wider community as easily.

user20683
@YannisRizos This is why you are mod and I am not. You understand these things.

user20683
Is it heresy to wipe my mac clean to put windows or linux on it?

4:02 PM
@WorldEngineer You have access to the same review page as I do ;p

user20683
@YannisRizos can and do use them

user20683
because Mac OS X is getting on my nerves

@WorldEngineer I used to work exclusively on linux, up until a couple of years ago when I switched to windows. Most of my tools work on any os, so it's a bit meh for me. But I have no idea if linux/windows will play nicely on a mac.
"Most of my tools work on any os" -> "eclipse sucks on any platform"

user20683
@YannisRizos Eclipse is like Emacs; it's great if you know how to use it. Otherwise it's just a pain.

@WorldEngineer I know how to use it, and it's the best IDE available for my needs. Sadly, that doesn't make it great... Just the least evil.

@YannisRizos Ours is a threading of needles between the least evils.
