someone once told me that majorana asserted the EM wave is what is being statistically "measured" by QM. not sure if majorana wrote it down.
Ettore Majorana (Italian: [ˈɛttore majoˈraːna]; born 1906 – probably dead after 1959) was an Italian theoretical physicist who worked on neutrino masses. He disappeared suddenly under mysterious circumstances while going by ship from Palermo to Naples. The Majorana equation and Majorana fermions are named after him. In 2006, the Majorana Prize was established in his memory.

there is some nice basic discussion of the strong connection between semiclassical theories & descriptions of some quantum phenomena in this book, ch2, for double slit & photoelectric effect etc.; alas virtually none of this is taught in classrooms because its considered unorthodox/ minority/ near-contrarian physics.
