@vzn Oh, come on. We've had 2796 re-open reviews. That's just under 30% of the number of close vote reviews.

its strange the statistics dont reveal how many reopen votes actually led to question reopens. anecdotally, across se, seems most reopen reviews lead to no change.
P: seems most closed questions get deleted. se very effectively hides statistics on closed questions. they just disappear from statistics.

& the dynamics of this site may be different from others am familiar with/ hang out at.
the se reopen system is hard to understand, not straightfwd, rules seem not documented anywhere, it seems to have some hidden threshholds.
@vzn So build a Data Explorer query.
@vzn The reopen system is literally easier than the close system, and documented roughly as much as the close system. There are more mentions of closing in the documentation due to its relation to deletion.

se data explorer is indeed cool/ powerful, have explored some statistics there over the yrs.
the pt is that certain key statistics are missing from se stats pages, probably purposely so in some cases.
not interested in the moment in doing free dev work for se improvement/ feature enhancement/ datamining/ analysis. am sure it would be some )( fun though.
gilles explained the reopen system to me briefly once, it was hard to follow, might try to look it up again. it seems to have some kind of timer or time-related threshhold on it or something.
overall feel se is powerful software and generally works well. the outlier cases interest me. have only noticed there does seem to be some "sweeping under the rug" at times that is hard to quantify.

@vzn Are you actually implying that there's some master conspiracy to hide how many questions get deleted?
@vzn Close votes work the same way. If no one else acts on them after time, they go away.
@vzn I'm certain there are - but I don't have the time to write up a query to check into it. I simply wanted to demonstrate that based on stats that anyone (with access to review queues) could see, your assertion that reopen votes don't occur is 100% demonstrably false.
We could get into a discussion of whether or not more questions should be re-opened, but you'd have to start looking at why they got closed in the first place. Do dupes really need to be re-opened? Do questions that were migrated? Do questions that are clearly off-topic? How many were addressed/edited after being closed?
@phantom42 There's also the (10k?) tools that list all the recently closed and reopened questions. That's where I pulled the ratio above from.

"conspiracy"? straw man ... just humans making decisions....
can you even answer how many questions get deleted? its quite obscure in se statistics.
discussed some of these mechanisms with another user in an se chat room. se software seems to be roughly built on ideas about bug tracking software/ db which was an area one of the se founders worked in before building se.
can anyone point to a simple description of how close/ reopen votes expire on the system? and how many votes have expired? a lot just get vaporized leaving no tracks afaict. no such simple description apparently exists.
"go away"! interesting choice of words there lol
never said that reopen votes dont occur. clear misreading of my statements, putting words in my mouth
not surprised, this rigid defensiveness of std policy is quite typical across se & incl by se mgt. forums are ostensibly open to questioning but much/ most questioning is met with reiteration of existing policy. they often function more like se culture conditioning areas...
afaik se auto deletes not-upvoted posts after 30d etc.... vaporized, no significant records. se is focused on high voted questions/ answers & not interested in certain other statistics. this is understandable.
(admit some of the above stated concerns are not specific to Science Fiction & Fantasy)
