From some other discussion I arrived at an attempt to find instances of posts where bounty was removed using SEDE.
I have asked on Meta Stack Exchange and got some advice from Glorfindel.
You can have a look at this query: data.stackexchange.com/math/query/1236765/…
The relevant condition is pn.OwnerUserId != pn.DeletionUserId, meaning that bounty was started and ended by two different users.
In most cases, it is indeed done by mods. But there are a few instances where the user shown there is not a moderator.
For example, this question shows that bounty was offered and awarded by the same user (Yannic Muller) math.stackexchange.com/posts/3465251/revisions
Yet SEDE says differently - the first user is shown simply as 686624.
Do the moderators have some idea why this behaves in an unusual way? Were perhaps accounts of those users merged (and the old account no longer exists)?
