A user is adding ${}{}$ to question titles with no other changes and with the edit summary "edited title", so I was wondering if/when such edits are acceptable?
@FrankVel my first answer would be " basically never", though I could imagine a reasonable cause why they do it (getting a Q of the Hot List). It might still not be the right way to go about it.
To be clear, editing titles with a main motivation being to get it of the Hot List is something that happens sometimes and can be a good idea. Yet it is better to actually improve the title and not only to pad it with white-space (when rendered).
If this is the motivation it can be alright (though there might be a better option with the same effect).
If the edits happen just someplace they'd seem like 'noise.'
@quid Thanks! Mathjax was rendering slowly and I just found it odd. I don't know the motivation, but it's been applied to the 1st, 4th and 5th top of week questions, so it may be related to the hot list as you suggest, although I don't know how that algorithm works.
@FrankVel the things is that since MathJax does not render everywhere on the network questions with MathJax in the title are not included in the Hot Network questions (or at least not on sites where MathJax is not enabled, which is the majotirty)
Could a mod please, sooner rather than later, delete some comments posted here?. CogitoEC seems to be off on a rant about "third worlders" being those who cheat, etc.
