Hi. What would be the best way for me to deal with this? On the one hand I would rather not engage with someone being clearly hostile, on the other hand I would rather not have someone continuously spread lies about me.
I am assuming dustin is still bitter about this (I think mods can see deleted comments).
I don't think flagging comments like this all the time is a permanent solution. Should I try to reason with him?

@ArthurFischer What is the ETA on unlocking the question and reinstating the on-topic comments?

6-8 weeks? :)

@Lord_Farin The best I can say right now is that it'll get done when it gets done. I don't look forward to going through everything there, and I'll probably get the opinions of the other mods, too. I wouldn't expect anything to be done within the next 24 hours.
@quid Didn't even think of that! Dammit. That would've been the best I could say.

@ArthurFischer Ok. I don't mind this decision, by the way. The threads were devolving and the constructive attitude seemed to be dissipating.

@Lord_Farin Probably should've been done earlier, but it's hard to make that decision to stomp on others' "exchange of ideas". And for better or worse, the site culture has been to allow this to fester.
Awaiting a meta-thread denouncing my "unilateral" decision.

@ArthurFischer If I unilaterally support your decision, is the decision still unilateral?

6:41 PM
@DanielFischer I think two unilaterals makes it even more unilateral.

@ArthurFischer You might get lucky this time as somebody did not look so good in the comments so they might be happy they are gone..

@ArthurFischer I would say: times change. We have tolerated this kind of thing in the past, and this has yielded a lot of grudges and off-topic references in other threads. As the site has matured (at least in terms of volume), I think it's a good thing that meta follows.

@quid But if such people believe that all unilateral actions are bad, they should fight them tooth and nail even if it does improve their situation.
Right?
@Lord_Farin "matured." lol ;-)

@ArthurFischer Well. Let me not continue on this here.

6:50 PM
@NajibIdrissi Flagging such comments is much better than becoming embroiled into something that could potentially put you at risk. I see too often that users try to "handle" such situations on their own, but this almost always just escalates things.
We're (supposedly) here to moderate things.

Okay @Arthur, thanks.

3 hours later…
9:40 PM
@Arthur The coin showed heads in the end? ;)

@Lord_Farin Mine did. Not sure about Daniel's.

@ArthurFischer I haven't found the coin yet. Flipped too energetically.
