Hi. What would be the best way for me to deal with this? On the one hand I would rather not engage with someone being clearly hostile, on the other hand I would rather not have someone continuously spread lies about me.
I am assuming dustin is still bitter about this (I think mods can see deleted comments).
I don't think flagging comments like this all the time is a permanent solution. Should I try to reason with him?
@Lord_Farin The best I can say right now is that it'll get done when it gets done. I don't look forward to going through everything there, and I'll probably get the opinions of the other mods, too. I wouldn't expect anything to be done within the next 24 hours.
@quid Didn't even think of that! Dammit. That would've been the best I could say.
@Lord_Farin Probably should've been done earlier, but it's hard to make that decision to stomp on others' "exchange of ideas". And for better or worse, the site culture has been to allow this to fester.
Awaiting a meta-thread denouncing my "unilateral" decision.
@ArthurFischer I would say: times change. We have tolerated this kind of thing in the past, and this has yielded a lot of grudges and off-topic references in other threads. As the site has matured (at least in terms of volume), I think it's a good thing that meta follows.
@NajibIdrissi Flagging such comments is much better than becoming embroiled into something that could potentially put you at risk. I see too often that users try to "handle" such situations on their own, but this almost always just escalates things.
