@reg3x_mr, yes, Unix manual pages traditionally have a strong "reference manual" vibe, and their intended audience is C programmers with a certain level of language and OS sophistication. This is not universally regarded as a good thing, but neither is it universally regarded as a problem. If you're not there yet then there is abundant secondary material that may be helpful to you. HOWEVER, Stack Overflow is for programming questions, not language or documentation criticism. I take most of the negativity in these comments to spring from you diverging towards the latter. —
