I can only guess. But, my guess is that it won't make a difference in performance because of compiler optimization. From a style point of view, some programmers prefer the first because the ~~~ part of the code would be nested 1 level less. — James 11 secs ago

componentB is set as dependency but as “file://“ this is not needed for real. For example, you can use npm link or different setups for development and publishing. Anyway, your question seems more related to Soft EngCristian Traìna 7 secs ago

This question is too broad, asking multiple questions at once, asking for recommendations for 3rd party resources, and not asking about a specific coding issue. It's off-topic on multiple counts, sorry. Please take the tour, and read How to Ask and associated resources as the system recommended you to do before posting anything. You might find a version of this might be acceptable on the software engineering or software recommendations sites, but check their guidance carefully too before asking. Thanks. — ADyson 6 secs ago

@SodAlmighty: do not bind *read-suppress* to nil if it is not nil. See the notes to the CLHS and in particular 'Programmers and implementations that define additional macro characters are strongly encouraged to make them respect *read-suppress* just as standardized macro characters do.' What you are doing is directly violating that guidance. — ignis volens 51 secs ago

Thank you so much for your great answer. I do however have a question regarding the "how to detect the NUL with fgets()". Your suggestion sounds very reasonable, but it looks like a bit of a hack, as I think to prefill the buffer with any programmer-chosen, hard-coded character sounds bit like a workaround. Is this a standard practice among experienced C programmers? — Learning_man 15 secs ago

Competitive coding is something you can do for fun after learning a language. They're more about problem solving skills and instant gratification then about good software engineering. The code examples are usually bof very poor quality — Pepijn Kramer just now

@Learning_man, Experienced C programmers, when using fgets(), tend to ignore the potential of reading a null character and use the input up to the first null character, be it the read one or appended one. IMO, using extended library functions like getline() or ` fscanf(f, "%199[^\n]%n",...` like code are the way to go. — chux - Reinstate Monica 19 secs ago

I certainly think that stylistically any should now be used rather than the bare protocol name, simply because it does a better job of saying what it means than the bare protocol name. The bare protocol name has misled and confused programmers all this time. — matt 30 secs ago

The bare protocol name has misled and confused programmers all this time. It's good that any is going to be required. — matt 27 secs ago

likely you've reinvented the variant pattern. That's a good thing :), it means your brain works like other programmers' brains. So yes, that's likely the way to go. — lorro 31 secs ago
