@PeterCordes, yeah, If these simulators do have data breakpoints, I don't know of it. Few toy programs would need this, and even fewer toy programmers would be able to use it as most don't know even debugging basics like view data or single step. — Erik Eidt 11 secs ago

@PeterCordes Great, detailed answer. There are still reasons to roll one's own lock implementation, though, particularly for spinlocks. For example, maybe you want to use hardware-lock elision (not that you can do that in portable C++), maybe you need (or don't need) fairness, maybe you care about (or don't care about) memory traffic on your interconnect. Most programmers shouldn't need to do this, though. — user3188445 16 secs ago

Online judge sites like Hackerrank are designed for experienced programmers who want to answer random puzzle questions. They are not designed for beginners, and as mentioned, not learning tools. — PaulMcKenzie just now
I think you'd have to post a different question if you have any issues with WindowBuilder specifically. In general, the questions of software recommendations are out of scope of StackOverflow. — Sergei 12 secs ago

Questions that ask "where do I start?" are typically too broad and are not a good fit for this site. People have their own method for approaching the problem and because of this there cannot be a correct answer. Give a good read over Where to Start and edit your post. — gunr2171 36 secs ago

Hi @wjandrea - thanks for your input. Each fn does need access to self, and they are a mix of pure and impute functions. None of the code would be useful beyond initializing the class. For more context, it is the init function of a large neural network, so each function would define a subsection of the network (unique to this class of network). Nevertheless, thanks for your input and I will ask over on Software Engineering. I will remove this question in a bit (in case you need to respond). Thanks! — WhoDatBoy 47 secs ago

Comments about naming conventions are sort of secondary to the question of why the code doesn't work. Python doesn't have hard and fast rules (i.e. enforced by the interpreter) about what to name things, and giving things weird names won't in itself cause bugs, but the standard naming conventions are widely accepted enough that if you do things like give a class a snake_case name it's like nails on a chalkboard to most Python programmers. :) — Samwise 40 secs ago

@Flo.dev From experience the global keyword are either used by lazy programmers or new programmers which are unfamiliar with variable scope, functions and classes. The general rule is to refrain from using the global keyword, unless necessary or as last resort. Anyway the reason you want to refrain from using the global keyword is because it makes debugging harder, and it also clutters the name space for your variables. Neither is an issue in a project this small. However bad habits are hard to break, and it's generally advised to develop good habits as early as possible. — LBJ 35 secs ago

It's a mistake to describe code like a picture to programmers. We want code. Not descriptive, suggestive notions of code. — Ted Lyngmo 6 secs ago
