I think I've given you plenty to work with. You've given us not much. I'm trying to help, but I do not have time to infer or extract the precise requirements of this program for you. Right now, any answer can potentially miss the point entirely, which would get you no further to a solution. When you ask software engineers for help, you must provide detail. Saying "set The name to the nome, but i got random chars " means nothing to me. If you learn nothing else from this exercise, at least learn what information a programmer requires before anything can be done at all. — paddy 17 secs ago

That may be, but in some cases, my suggestion is much simpler than many of the other suggestions. I know when I first started looking at SO, many of the solutions were way beyond my level of understanding, and as such, they were useless to me. This solution is simple, it's understandable, and it works. If answers are downvoted by expert programmers, then those who are just learning will be frustrated. I speak from experience. SO is really becoming very elitist and "pure". It's very sad. — Zonker.in.Geneva just now

I fail to understand why was this question closed. Can you please point to the exact reference where this query has been answered. Please don't turn StackOverflow into Wikipedia. Most of the programmers come to this esteemed site with specific questions expecting a specific answer. There are lot of kind souls help answer the question. Pointing a Wikipedia style article is a gross misuse of your privilege bestowed upon by the community. — Kiran 24 secs ago

You can even write scripts in the language called C :) It's funny how C programmers often forget that they are actually programmers, and writing a little program that generates a .c text file ain't rocket science. Many IDEs come with "solutions" that contain multiple projects - this can be used to have separate projects generating scripts, test cases, simulations etc related to the main project, but without being part of it. It's also possible to get clever with version control programs and have multiple repos entwined with each other. And so on. — Lundin 12 secs ago

And to add: I would use methods, outputs or properties of function blocks like IsError, GetError to get error information. Function block error outputs are quite used in PLC coding so other programmers would know immediately what is going on. But if you want to use the TRY..CATCH, I would create a function like Throw that does the magic and uses your own error codes defined somewhere. — Quirzo 30 secs ago

@AidenFive -- outtextxy comes from the olden days when C programmers weren't very concerned about const correctness. In this case, it's okay to cast the return value to a char*: outtextxy(x, y, (char*)txt.c_str()). — Pete Becker 11 secs ago

Call to new operator reserves some memory and it's programmers' responsibility to free this memory. Therefore each call to new should have a corresponding delete and each call to new[] should have a delete[]. But doing it properly is a difficult thing, therefore usage of new should be minimized. With smart pointers and containers you almost never need it (I don't think I ever used raw new in my 3 years of professional work). In your code you'd have to use delete[] items; before reassigning items to point to new array. — Yksisarvinen 52 secs ago

According to the stack overflow guidelines [1], questions about "software tools commonly used by programmers" are on topic. Since my question pertains to software used for data visualization, I claim it meets this criterion. [1] stackoverflow.com/help/on-topicJamie 1 min ago

You could omit the val = val * 255*; line and then make the following comparison if (val >= 0.941176) c = pink; but that would be far less clear to programmers, who will be familiar with the 0...255 range for pixel R/G/B values. — Adrian Mole 26 secs ago

Now you're just splitting hairs on precise definitions. 'Method' in general programming parlance overlaps in meaning with 'Function' so much as to be nearly identical (Method adds some extra meaning on top of the more generic notion of 'function'). There's no Universal Programmers Specification with Precise Meaning of All Jargon That Shall Ever Be Used, stop acting like this exists. — rzwitserloot 29 secs ago

You are asking how feasible this approach is, but you provide no details about the restrictions and requirements. The only thing you did mention is needing the data to pass around in real time. You ask if it is a good idea to use a db, but that also depends on whatever you are trying to achieve. This question should be probably asked in software engineering stack exchange, and try to provide more details about your problem there. — kmaork 21 secs ago
