I love how the javadoc for ordinal() says "most programmers will have no use for this method". Actually having a list of unique integers without having to assign them myself is often the main reason I use enums. They do not 'break' when new constants are added, provided you add them at the end. If you're using them in communications with outside programs and don't add the new value in the outside program then it's broken anyway. Been doing this for 20 years in C and never had any issues. Also, giving "it's not recommended" as the answer to "why is it not recommended" is not a reason :) — iforce2d 57 secs ago

Thanks for the detailed question. Unfortunately, since the issue here seems to be a typo, it is unlikely that the question will be useful for future programmers when searching through StackOverflow. I've voted to close the question with the answers already submitted, but if neither of the answers solves your problem, please reply to this comment and I'll re-evaluate. — Joe Sewell 51 secs ago

@Sumit I'm also not familiar with designing properties, so I don't think I'm the best source of help here. You might want to post a question on CodeReview or SoftwareEngineering (both are other Stackexchange sites, more on-topic for alternative design suggestions) — GPhilo 25 secs ago

@sahasrara62, I don't think I'm wasting my time. Trying to learn something. As programmers we have to deal with multiple progrmming languages. I have to do comparison of concepts between the languages. If you say "concept is same but approach and implementation is different" and many agree that then it is a new learning for me. If go for interviews and if they ask questions like this then I should know some convincing point. Anyhow thanks for your answer. — Ravi Kumar B 19 secs ago

I've written expression parsers many times in real life. I prefer recursive descent to shunting yard, though. But I think you mistake the purpose of the exercise. You do it in school because it will make you a better programmer. Programmers write new things, and they link in or copy/paste things that have been done before. If you only want to learn stuff that is commonly done, then you want to be a copy/paster, not a programmer. — Matt Timmermans 7 secs ago

Because of that i was telling you it depends a lot on the way you design your packages. You need to do it in a way that allows that reuse/share of code you desire. Such is not achievable by only splitting code, requires design and software architecture. try to ask your question here: softwareengineering.stackexchange.comdavidmpaz 14 secs ago

You're asking if this should be done one way or another. At this point any answer will be subjective and opinion-based. Even if you change wording, it will be very broad. This results in poor quality answers most times, this is the reason why such questions were banned from SO several years ago. Since you're new to SO, check this stackoverflow.com/help/how-to-ask . Try softwareengineering.stackexchange.com for yours but consider providing more details. I answered shortly because the question is against the rules and will be closed any way, I hope it's better than nothing. — Estus Flask 47 secs ago

For the sake of learning, it's really good to dive into a framework and test different solutions for a common situation. Though questions about this aren't really meant for Stack Overflow. Maybe Software Engineering Stack Exchange would be a better place to ask about preferred patterns and performance, but I'm not even sure! :P — Emile Bergeron 1 min ago

@Clemenes This post by itself is useful to newer WPF programmers who are trying the same approach as what OP described. The first thing comes to a programmer's mind is to change the base class. After changing the base class, he encounters this error. And my answer explains the reason for this error. The question should be reopnned. — Mohammad Dehghan 11 secs ago
