Q: Install Windows 7 on Asus Eee pc 1011px netbook

SoheilYouI have a Asus Eee pc 1011px netbook which it had an original windows 7 starter installed on it ! It had 16 GB partition for windows recovery ! it was working well, until I wnated to install ubuntu next to windows ! so I tried to separate 10 GB to install Ubuntu I did it by Windows "Disk ma...

Was it able to load the storage driver and identify the drive to install to once loaded?

@PFitz under the notbook there is a pruduct key , but Im not sure is that windows pruduct key or not ! what shal i do if it is ?
@Optichip what do you mean of "storage" ? It identify the usb flash and runs windows setup , but does not identify hard disc

@SoheilYou If you go through the installation of Windows 7 and you get to the part where it asks you what drive to install on, no drive is listed but you have the option to install a driver, at that point, you put in the USB stick that has the driver on it that you want to use, select it, the driver loads, then you put your Windows 7 usb stick back in and complete the install. This is the driver I'm referring to.

@Optichip yes ! when i click on "load driver" in identify usb flash an files ! but I dont know what drivers ? could you send me a link to download it? I have serched for a week but all drivers are wrong ! I dont know which driver shal I install

@SoheilYou asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/Eee_PC_1011PX/HelpDesk_Download Please go to the manufacturer site and select SATA and download that driver.
o
Yo

4:31 PM
hi

Hi there
were you able to download the driver from the site?

yes

expand it and drop it onto a USB stick

I think that I have done this before
and
I am trying it once more

Windows 7 needs to be able to see your drive, it will need to driver to do that
once it can see it, you should be able to select it and then install.

4:34 PM
yes ! in the downloaded file
there is a folder : AHCI
I open It and there is 2 folders :
Driver and install !

so during the windows install, you will need to point the installer to that Driver folder.

I select driver and ok and after that

it should locate the driver, load it, show you the hard drive for installation.
at that point you will need to switch back to the WIndows 7 usb stick
then select the drive and continue the install.

sorry but
i says : Intel(r) NM10 EXPRESS CHIPSET (C:\AHCI\AHCI\DRIVE\iaACI.INF
and i click "next"
and after that
It does not show any drive to install again

hmm

4:40 PM
Thats realy on my Nerve

checking the manual for that machine let me see if there is anything in there

Ok tnx ! Im waiting here

AHA!

what ?

Did you disable boot booster in BIOS?
Disable Boot Booster in BIOS setup before you perform system recovery from USB flash disk, external optical drive or hidden partition.
• Boot Booster function available in selected model.

4:43 PM
Yes I think ! i did that but w8 to be sure i check it again

That's the issue, you need to turn off boot booster, this will allow the OS installer to see the drive. Once you install the os you can turn it back on

im checing

When in the bios go to Boot menu, Boot Booster needs to be set to Disabled.

Oh !

That should take care of your issue :)
Once you install you can go back in and re-enable it

4:47 PM
I remember that 2 weeks ago

if you were installing Windows 8.1 you probably wouldn't have needed to disable it

I wanted to recovery my windows and I disabled BOot booster in BIOS

Was it disabled?

but Now There is not Boot Booster Option in bios ! that is strange :(

You are on the Boot Menu?

4:49 PM
yes

OnBoard LAN Boot ROM
you have that option there?
right underneath it should be Boot Booster
should look like that

there is : onboard Device configuration

Does the picture I sent look like your BIOS?

yes

same bios version?

4:52 PM
im sending
right now

heading to a meeting so I'm going to have to go, I would download the manual for your machine and read through the bottom section, it talks about recovery from the recovery partition and settings that will be needed to be changed. Sorry I can't help more! I'm sure you're on the right track with this though.
will try to leave this chat open, I'll take my laptop with me :P

خا
oh
im realy thankful
tnx for your helps

yeah that looks like a different bios version

I try to search more
what shal i do ?

look for something that says AHCI

4:59 PM
i found it

see if you have a bios setting anywhere
disable it
run through the install
see if it finds your hard drive

disable what ?

if you have an AHCI configuration item
and it's enabled, you will need to disable it
that's keeping the installer from seeing your hard disk

i disabled it

ok try the installation again and see if it detects your drive

5:02 PM
but boot booster still is hidden
I remember that i Had boot booster option

that's fine
it's the AHCI option that causes the drive to be hidden from the installer.

ok im trying to install windows again
setup is runing

crosses fingers

i hope it works this time
:(

still no drive?

5:06 PM
it does not show
no drive
i loaded AHCI driver
but still no driver

yeah it should not need that driver
as you've disabled those features in the bios

yes ! but i tested in to be sure !
dont you know way boot booster is not in bios ?

I'm guessing it's a different version of the bios
v02.58 was the one in the manual.
not sure what version you have

but i had boot booster 2 weeks ago

Did you do a bios upgrade?

5:10 PM
no

hmmm
that is strange then
how old is the machine?
past 1 year?

It is a gift
i have recived it 2 weeks ago

was it new as a gift?
just wondering if there is still warranty on it
you might try to call ASUS and ask for help with it if it's still under warranty

oh no
in my cuntry garanty is not available for asus
i should pay for it !

ugh
Have you tried to call them?

5:13 PM
NO but one of my friend tried and they said you must pay
because they are not oficail asus repersener

What country?

iran

hmm Egypt, UAE & Saudi Arab only :/

you dont know iran ?

I was looking at their service centers
trying to find you a contact #

5:16 PM
yes there is in UAE
but not iran !

Dubai
I would try to register the machine on their site, see if it offers any "free" warranty option after you register it.

i think i have regesterd it :(

It should tell you if it's within a year for warranty purposes
Generally they give you 1 year from date of manufacture to replace, repair or offer assistance with it.

there is no date on the box

I would call... tell them you received it as a graduation present or something :)

5:21 PM
but i have serial number

see if they will help you with recovery.
sounds like there might be a bios update that can be applied to it as well to help out.

how can I update BIOS ?

there are BIOS files on their site that you will need to create a Boot USB
it will have a DOS boot
then run the commands to flash

and after that ?

YOU MUST BE VERY CAREFUL
this could break the machine if not done correctly

5:24 PM
oh !
there is 2 files in site

you would get the bios utilities and the latest bios file
you need the bios utilities to upload the bios
you want the 1401 bios update.

ok im downloading it
downloaded
what now ?
please guide me step-by-step

I was looking through the manual to see if they have a step by step for updating the bios
they do not
I don't have one of those machines here to walk through it with you. :/
There are some Youtube videos!

i can tell you step-by-step options
and you tell me what shal i do

Watch the video
see if it's something you want to even attempt.

5:45 PM
I whached video
i must use windows xp ?

you'll need some kind of way to boot up off USB
quick google search came up with that

I fear
is it possible that i break my netbook
is it possible that
the verssion of windows be the problem ?
because ubuntu identify hard well

6:03 PM
like I said, Windows 8.1 would probably not have an issue installing.
Why are you going back from Ubuntu anyway?
Did it not work well?
Ubuntu is a decent flavor on Linux, there are many others out there that are great as well.

when i
install ubuntu , at installation finish ubuntu says restart
and after restart
when i enter ubunto it freez
in a black page

hmm

Every thing is against me :(

6:21 PM
this might help a bit
it's definitely installable.
There are a few "tweaks" you might have to do to get it working the way you want but it should work.
I've built hundreds of images in linux

6:53 PM
Did that Ubuntu site help any?
