Q: Systemd-networkd: Rund script after DHCP client aqcuires new address

alexanderI am on ubuntu 18.04 server. I need to run a script that updates an IP address on CloudFlare (kind of DynDNS script). In previous versions I could do this with a DHCLIENT exit hooks for the interface enp1s0. However, systemd now uses their own build-in DHCP client. How can I write a systemd uni...

@Fabby That's fine, at least it's got some visibility and over time hopefully will help a bunch of people. My other answer about unzipping zip files with Python picked up slowly over years but it did. This one, however, did surprisingly well for the short time: askubuntu.com/a/1073803/295286 Content-wise both suit more for U&L but on those sites there's already plenty of answers like that. But this site could use more technical answers, so I posted. Plus it's fun for me :)

Q: (mailx: unrecognized option '-S' ) Problem with mailx smtp Ubuntu

Filip ParkerI was trying to send a mail to multiple persons using mailx (mailx (GNU Mailutils) 3.4). I did that on different previous versions of Ubuntu, more specifically on version (16.04), and the script was working fine. Now I have Ubuntu 18.04 and the following problem: mailx: unrecognized option -S ma...

Q: resetting serial port configuration

Irbisstty allows to read a serial port configuration. I have noticed that when some program opens, configures and later closes a serial port the last serial port configuration is still present in the system. When it reset to the defaults ? Only during reboot ?

Q: Ubuntu 18.04 : Trigger scripts when VMware template is cloned

Anthony PradalI am trying to trigger some scripts only once when an Ubuntu 18.04 template is cloned. Is there anyway to setup cloud-init and clone to VM to template? I couldn't found how and where this can be done. On my current VM which will serve as a template cloud-init has the boot-finished. I was planni...

Q: Rename the atom tag

idlebergThe atom tag is currently used for questions about GitHub's Atom editor and Intel's Atom CPU. I would favour if a moderator sets a new tag for either. Maybe the best practice is to follow Stack Overflow and create atom-editor for the former tag.

guys help
Skype makes a new keyring every time I log in
every single locked one is empty too

That is your mistake. For using skype :+)

I don't have much choice

@TheWanderer I have a subdivision "login" under passwords

@Fabby I have no choice in what it does
every time Skype starts, it creates a new keyring

Are you using Seahorse? (help about)

2:51 PM
yes

Me too. I'm on 16.04: no issue.
lemme look if I can find anything in myt logs.
@TheWanderer Which version of seahorse and skype are you using?

latest and latest?

3.18.0 and 8.30.0.50 here
I can't find anything wrong on my machine.
@TheWanderer what's the output of ls ~/.local/share/keyrings

default  Default_keyring_3.keyring  Default_keyring.keyring  login.keyring  user.keystore
which isn't accurate

uhuh...

2:58 PM
seahorse has no login keyring
just one Default Keyring after I deleted everything else

it does.

doesn't show one

I get:
$ ls ~/.local/share/keyrings
login.keyring  user.keystore
fab-user@fab-ux-predator:/etc
$ wc ~/.local/share/keyrings/login.keyring
  16   82 3369 /home/fab-user/.local/share/keyrings/login.keyring

well I have no "Login" keyring in seahorse

Well, that's where my skype stuff ends up...

3:02 PM
I moved the folder and tried to create a new keyring with seahorse and it's just not doing anything

So what you're saying is that of you have seahorse recreate the folder it's empty except for user.keystore
and default Default_keyring_3.keyring Default_keyring.keyring login.keyring is a restore from your backup?

no I'm saying I effectively removed the keyrings folder
so seahorse sees nothing
and then I tried adding a keyring and it just hangs

what if you delete the files in the folder instead of the folder itself (as that might be a function of the installation process, so the app doesn't check)

I did

Ah...
@TheWanderer and when you delete all files and you create a new keyring, it just hangs?

3:10 PM
yes

@TheWanderer Do you have 2 users on your system?

Can you create an additional one and see if it happens there too?

I don't want to
multiple users just creates other problems

if it works there, can you copy the keyrings over and delete the user?
@TheWanderer That is not an option.
(do you see what I'm trying to do or not?)
Shall I stop trying to help you??? :-(

3:13 PM
I'm not going to create another user

OK. Good luck... (You'll need it)
(I'm overdue a smoke anyway)

A: Android Studio App crashes on Activity Start with Bluetooth Code

TheWandererYou never initialized your listView variable. Make sure it's initialized under onCreate(): listView = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.whateveryourlistviewis);

why is this the answer that gets 3 upvotes

Q: Why can't I mount array disks for dd?

netroxWhen I have an USB disk recognized, I can do the 'dd' command and wipe data from the stick. I cannot do that with a SCSI disk from array such as NetApp. They don't seem to mount at all. The disk would be detected but nothing is mounted. If I try to do the dd, it would display showing that it reco...

Hurricane check-in. We got power back. Parts of the area are still underwater, but high lying houses just had to deal with services outage because of downed trees. Everything is normal-ish.

@RobotHumans I thought you were Indiana/Illinois?
Glad you're ok!

11:11 PM
@Seth I skipped on IN/IL and went back to NC. Made it to NC and am fine even though I'm in the locus of the storm area. We just had outages for a week as floodwaters receded. I'm contracting for NYC now. If they make me perm I may or may not stay in NC.
I was at some point in IN and IL both though.

Q: How to find the PCI_ID of the port that a certain USB device is plugged into

tinkI would like to find the pci_id of Bus 02.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=ehci-pci/2p in the output below. /: Bus 02.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=ehci-pci/2p, 480M |__ Port 1: Dev 2, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/4p, 480M |__ Port 1: Dev 5, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/...

11:29 PM
@RobotHumans Ah, ok. Well I'm glad you're safe.
When you say contracting for NYC the only thing I can think of is New York City. Is that right?

11:50 PM
@Seth I moved the hall but it's not organized
