@Rinzwind ---^ see my comment above (forgot the other old fart here)

Should I buy a nvidia 770 to upgrade from a 760?

go to gpu.userbenchmark.com and compare and see whether it's worth the money @MathCubes

12:48 AM
@Fabby It's only 6:48 pm yesterday :)

Ah!

You said I was up late.

I thought you were German...

It's only 6:48 pm here, Friday April 13th

Yup, understood now...

12:49 AM
Nien sprekan de Duetch
Heir Fabby!

Ich spreche kein Deutsch...

I heard Merkel speaking German yesterday saying she wouldn't get into Syrian Military conflict and was thinking what a nice language to learn.

Tough language to learn... Language for engineers...
:-)
look at my old farts stuff above.
(star would be nice)

hang on.
I didn't know karel was old.

AFAIK he's not 20 any more...

12:54 AM
I was feeling old today... work is crazy with overtime, spinning wheels and getting nowhere. I'm thinking of quitting or putting in for a transfer to Vancouver Warehouse or Montreal Software department.

so is spring coming to Alberta?
ah!!!

Haha... God has cursed the weather since January.

Do you get paid for overtime?

Yeah I'm hourly Warehouse Receiver.

Well, I worked till midnight yesterday from 09:30 AM and I got zilch for it...

12:55 AM
You should charge your client $145 USD / hour then add in expenses at receipt cost + 10% :)

Nature of the beast: some companies are getting rid of people, other grow like crazy and need overtime to keep growing...

Yeah our company got bought out and new software and procedures and tons more products.

Well, I don't charge the client directly...

Tell your boss you want half of billings.

Yup... Been there...
We're a cost centre...
no direct client billing (which I'm trying to change, but the boss is reluctant as that means more work for him)
/shrug
I don't understand: cost centres get cut first when the growth stops...

12:58 AM
When you bill by the hour the client becomes more focussed on helping you get your job done efficiently.

I know: that's how we did it in my previous company:
100% day, 150% evening / early morning, 200% at night
150% Saturdays 200% Sundays
cumulative!

One of my clients back in the day said I should charge more for evenings and weekends but I just had a flat rate.

so 400% for a Sunday night...
yeah...
OK ...

Yeah when you bring the system down to install vendor updates and merge custom code into it they always want you to work weekends.

I should probably go to sleep
3AM.

1:00 AM
Yup... I should probably watch a movie or write a bash script :)... Have a good night Heir Fabby!

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Yeah, part of the industry
You mean Heil?

sounds like "hare"

Nazi salutes are actually illegal in Germany

Yes I know...guilt

also calling someone a Nazi as an American woman found out the other week...
... when she called the customs officials "a bunch of Nazis"

1:02 AM
and on the road where i live? If you act as a nazi or a neonazi or have any kind of nazi-like views, you could end up with a very angry, well armed mob.

Lots of people will label corporate fascists that these days.

just saying.

thrown in the airport slammer for 24h and sent back.
@ThomasWard in PA???
How come? Large Jewish population?

Now Fabby if you want to talk about weird weather, Thomas can tell you about PA this last winter ;)

@Fabby on this road, yes.

1:03 AM
Cool.

also got a WW2-era family at the end of the road, too, so that probably helps to make the mobs, well... more mob-like.

I had to work with an American Jew on a German project and he was actually afraid to travel to Germany.
When he told me and I guffawed and explained to him that...
... Germany was probably safer for a jew than Israel...
... he came over and was amazed.
(at no one giving a crap whether he was Jewish or not)
Anyway... I need sleep!

People need to understand that what Israel does isn't what all Jews think, Just as what Pentagon or US deep-state does isn't what all English speaking people think. By the same token people have to understand that not all Germans are corporate fascists recovering from Rheimer Republic FIAT currency collapse with knee-jerk reaction of invading other countries.

hi

^^^ Speaking of corporate fascists Donald-Bad-Hairdoo just announced joint US+UK+France bombings of Syrian people. As if Libya and Iraq wasn't enough. Full Dominance Spectrum or something they planned in the 90's.
hello Xed. LTNS.

1:13 AM
@WinEunuuchs2Unix for very obvious reasons I'm going to say that let's switch topics to something more... neutral.

@ThomasWard Actually I'm going to write an answer on Application Indicators. Fabby should never have started the N-Word discussion. CIAO.

1:34 AM
Speaking of switches, how many ports does your switch have?

2:21 AM
@TheXed mine?

@EliahKagan I don't know enough about the OS or the file system to disagree with you.

4:29 AM
@user68186 I noticed your comment before your chat message, so I edited the post and commented there. I went with a wording that is more neutral than what I had originally suggested, to avoid having the post assert anything that you might not be willing to support.
But you should definitely edit it again yourself if you're not comfortable with the new wording.

@NathanOsman How are you supposed to get children without doing it this way?

2 hours later…
9:34 AM
@dessert I'd say you should probably not have children if you do such things. Oh, except setting fire to yourself. That's perfectly normal.

Q: Automatically wrapping lines in Ask Ubuntu

L_CleoI'm new to forums and stuff like that. I need to post my wifi-info scripts output in AskUbuntu using Firefox and I need to keep it as it is without wrapping any lines. As soon as copy and paste it, it automatically wraps the long lines. Is there any way to not wrap the lines? Thanks.

Q: Ubuntu 17.10/Dell XPS 13 9350 Battery always says charged

Lane GoolsbyAfter a BIOS update on my Dell I had to reinstall Ubuntu last night. The software update center suggested a TPM update so I did it from a USB drive because this is/was a dual boot system and the TPM manager was locked by Windows. After the update the system would not see the boot partition on the...

Q: Gnome apps have jumpy scrolling on debian LXDE/XFCE but not on Lubuntu/Xubuntu

arcus_mannenI want to use Gedit on Debian with LXDE or XFCE. It works, but after I type some text in it and scroll, the scroll is "jumpy". I scroll a little distance and it works like it should, but then it suddenly jumps a longer distance. Then it scrolls normally and it repeats this way. Very annoying beha...

Q: Can anybody suggest a better server configuration for numerical simulation of heat transfer?

SankarI Need to run a Fortran program to solve Three 500 x 500 matrix system in one time iteration and the total iterations goes up to 80000. For a funded project, I need to set up a computational lab for the above simulations. I would like to get your useful suggestions in this information.

Q: Qjckctl doesn't see soundcard in Connections page

SebastianWhen I try to setup JACK with Qjckctl, I can go into Setup and find my soundcard: However, once I start JACK and go onto the Connections page, I can't see my soundcard: I thought this might be because my soundcard isn't supported, but then how come I can see it in the setup page? :44010613 Huh?
I have a sense of humour and cannot be insulted.

@Fabby :-), but 10+ years on thinkpads leave their traces (and I just fatfingered :-)

Aha! TP lover.
I used to love them when they were still IBM, and have a work one now,
but I've lost my faith in them.

mind you, I am specifically talking about thinkpads - although my "new" desktop is from Lenovo too - I really like the hardware and how it reliably works under linux.

OK... Well, I don't like Acer now I've got one. I should have waited for a week and got the MSI which was my first choice, but it wasn't in stock...

Hey Fabby
still awake? :D
What's your current time zone?

I'm home not too far from you @ByteCommander
Why do you ask? (ping me as I'm going to sleep soon)

@Fabby Just because I noticed you talking about moving and changing jobs recently a few times, so I thought asking wouldn't hurt...
Gonna switch to horizontal mode soon too

:)
I had a job interview, but haven't heard anything back.
so: too bad...

11:03 PM
still not

I like the salary and the working remotely, just not the amount of hours I need to work in this job

hmm, German companies seem to be rather slow with their recruiting/feedback process
I heard in other countries it's mostly faster

It was for a job in the Netherlands...

Ah
How many hours would they like you to slave away per week?

38
They like you to be fresh and clear...
Oh and one of the best compliments I got this year,

11:05 PM
Huh? But that's few
Can't complain about 40 or even less

was from SAP (the company) that my documentation was better than theirs...
@ByteCommander the new company...

Especially compared to your previous place which felt like 75h based on what you said every now and then

The current one: If I work more than 14h/day, I should let my boss know as he doesn't want me to work more than that...

Oh, don't tell me about SAP docs
I know that problem

Good night?

11:09 PM
Sure, it's about time anyway
See you o/
