What's the deal with /proc/scsi/<device name>? I have a RAID manager that apparently interfaces with my RAID card via this interface, but it doesn't appear to... exist... anymore.
the RAID device exists, I can mount the drives. But the management interface won't start because that special path doesn't exist

I can't make my ubuntu to fetch docker image through terminal. Since my network is behind the proxy, I have tried all the steps given here stackoverflow.com/a/28093517 .
But it shows

Skype for Linux v4.* (legacy) was discontinued by Microsoft removed from Canonical's partner repositories. What should be do with old Skype installation questions and/or answers that refer to it?
My first idea is to add notes to the (popular) answers about their obsolescence and close the questions as duplicates of a "canonical" question about the installation of the new Skype vor Linux v5.
generally we try not to close questions - most of the time with a bit of gentle editing they have been saved and a new answer added to make the question still relevant.
That will work. Or editing - for example first line for 'install from repo answers' to say something like "Skype has been removed from the repositories and has not been replaced. This answer will no longer work for supported versions of Ubuntu. This answer is of historical significance only" ... or something less convoluted that that.
@don.joey Woah! Yeah, @DavidFoerster please undo that. That just makes everything hard to read and crossing out all answers except your own doesn't look very good.
Remember that while we may have this silly strange rule about older versions not being supported here, that doesn't mean that nobody will ever again find an answer for an older version useful.
@DavidFoerster The broader approach i) makes everything really hard to read and ii) looks like you just want to get everyone to upvote your answer.
I know that ii) isn't true, of course, but it does look like it.
and many people will simply use the retired, unsupported version: "Important notice: All Skype for Linux clients version 4.3 and older will be retired on July 1, 2017. To keep chatting, please install the latest version of Skype for Linux."
Independently of whether the old Skype still works, most of the installation methods don't.
@karel: Thanks for the bounty! Not just on behalf of myself but whoever ends up receiving it. It's certainly a good idea to encourage up-to-date answers.
My intention was exactly that, to encourage up-to-date answers, and to help users to find an up-to-date answer to a popular question, like Zanna recently did by awarding a bounty to an answer top this question: True Ubuntu on Chromebook ARM

I can't tell if you're a GRUB fanatic or just plain ignorant, but there are lots of ways to boot a system, and not all of them involve GRUB, and on a multiboot system certainly not all of them require the same OS's GRUB when they can all detect and boot each other. I'd agree. But you could avoid getting bashed about that by just removing the opening sentence of your answer which states you can't do it. Yes, you explain that you can't do it with the OP's setup and yes, you explain that there are alternative. But I expect many poeple will only read the first sentence and then hit you with a trout.
I just wanted to run git show. However I often forget to prefix Git commands with git and just started typing show. Apparently I remembered to type git first mid-word and ended up with shit show. xD

Brütal Legend is on sale on Humble Bundle (DRM free) and Steam, if anybody's looking for a well made Linux-friendly Action RPG game (made by a co-author of "Monkey Island") for the summer.
I would upgrade my GTX650, but the Nvidia drivers for Linux are so bad that I don't think I would really gain anything. (For example, dragging a terminal over a YouTube video causing stuttering not just in the video but also in the window movements, and the audio stutters too. I can do the same thing on Windows without a hiccup)

@terdon I worked in a Wayland session for some weeks to test everything extensively ... not bad ... though there is still some work to do ... I switched back to X for convenience reasons for now. :)
@AndroidDev I agree ... though running VLC in full screen mode leads to a frozen system after some time when you hover the mouse inside the app. :)
Yeah, I tried it out with KDE for a while but I use xrandr to set up some keyboard shortcuts to switch between different screen layouts. If I can't have that, I can't use the system so I went back to X.
@terdon also, when you want to run a GUI application with elevated privileges you have to execute xhost +local: before (once in every Wayland session you start)

@TheWanderer Most of the EsSO folk are from SA, yeah. Or they were when I chatted with them a while back. I asked because you used su which is the polite form and not what a speaker of peninsulár would say unless they knew that userDepth was very much older than they.
Makes sense though since there are way more speakers of the various SA dialects than there are of peninsulár.
