I thought the software centre was supposed to be easier to use than apt in the Terminal. And yet a search for GIMP there found me nothing except some GIMP plugins, not GIMP itself. On the other hand, sudo apt install gimp worked fine.

@edwinksl Dr Who dumdum
@TRiG which version of Ubuntu

not sure about software center... i have never really used it

Q: How to change gtk file chooser style?

ИльдарI use lxqt. And I noticed a strange thing. The save file dialog in chrome, firefox and geany are different! I create python script from GTK Documentation: Link: python-gtk-3-tutorial.readthedocs.io/en/latest/dialogs.html#id2 Screenshot dialog from python script: Link: hsto.org/web/78d/...

11:06 AM
@AndroidDev, Hey man how are you? Do you know about Android CTS? have you done it before?

Hi everyone. I've got an issue with my Ethernet right now. I need help. I'm writing from my mobile phone and my English is so bad, sorry for that, especially for position.
So, I updated xubuntu 16.04 yesterday and I faced with no space for boot partition. I removed packages like linux linux headers and images. Yeah, it was pretty unclever,so I installed latest version and after successful boot my Wi-Fi and eth are not working. lshw displays both devices are unclaimed. Can I downloaded debs with drivers with my phone and install it using dpkg? How to find which package to download?

11:36 AM
removed packages? maybe the issue is because of this?

Absolutely. But how to find a package with driver?

@RonnieDroid who says you're not ? :D

@cl-netbox maybe :-D

@RonnieDroid maybe not as cute as @ParanoidPanda ... :D

@ParanoidPanda you should celebrate their birth with a sweet cake

user136984
@RonnieDroid: You're right! I'll bake a cake! :D

12:17 PM
@cl-netbox I am sure not, he used to eat a lot of sugar, he must be cute :-P
@ParanoidPanda I'd be happy to bake you one, too bad I am far away.

user136984
This is a weird conversation! :D

user136984
@RonnieDroid Email ;)

@ParanoidPanda :-P

@RonnieDroid yes, you're right ... once upon a time his keyboard was unusable : covered completely with chocolate and cake ! :D right @ParanoidPanda ? :D

@ParanoidPanda shake the machine upside down twenty times - that will fix it ! :D

Have you guys seen this YouTube channel "thenewboston" ?

@RonnieDroid gin or vodka would do less harm ! :D

@cl-netbox it is too hot for Vodka
I started watching his tutorial on Python3 and I am curious if he is a good teacher or not

@RonnieDroid Well, I don't like video tutorials much - I prefer written ones, right as @terdon ... :)
Bytey ! :)

12:27 PM
@cl-netbox well, I tried written ones, but I am not smart enough, I have to see to learn :-P

@RonnieDroid that's absolutely okay ... everybody should learn things in a way that fits to his needs. :)

@cl-netbox yeah right, but I am not sure if he is teaching the good way (if you know what I mean) or not.

@RonnieDroid when you understand it completely, he did a good job - if not, he failed ... simply as that ! :D

He is using Python 3.4 I am using 3.5, he is on Windows I am on Ubuntu, I don't know if that is something I have to worry about or not
@cl-netbox well, I am understanding, so I think that's a good sign.

@RonnieDroid better search for a linux based tutorial ... maybe you find something useful here -> digitalocean.com/community :)

12:34 PM
@cl-netbox okay, thank you :-)

@RonnieDroid You're welcome ! :)

This website is cool, thanks again :-)

DO generally has great tutorials

@edwinksl is it on YouTube?

@RonnieDroid They have a channel -> youtube.com/user/DigitalOceanVideos

12:41 PM

@RonnieDroid Good point to start learning python is from https://www.coursera.org/
I'm really recommended.

@Benny I see it is good, too bad it is paid, can't pay for a course now, maybe in the future.
I think I'll stick with this guy "Bucky" for now, then I'll follow some written tutorial for python on Linux.

user136984
1:10 PM
@cl-netbox Yes, I had a real bad chocolate cake and custard addiction back then! :D

A question (I know I do that allot, be cool guys :-P) apps made with Python and GTK3 can run on OSX? Because I just saw that Gnome-Recipes has an OSX version.

1:29 PM
@RonnieDroid you have a lot of Python courses for free over there! search for Python and look for the free, I learned 4 Python free courses from there. and it's really good! guaranteed
Look here: https://www.coursera.org/courses?languages=en&query=Python
almost all the courses below the 2 first courses are free

Q: Wrong grub after installing Kali over Ubuntu

Vincent TeyssierI had Ubuntu 16.04. I created a Kali USB live. I boot on this USB and install Kali on an encrypted LVM. @SumeetDeshmukh Hi Sumeet, if I am correct, the issue should be fixed now. Also if I am correct, the solution was shockingly simple. Sorry for the delay, I should have done it sooner, but times have been incredibly busy lately. Please let me know if it works!

fun reminder to Hue To You: StackExchange can change the chat API any time they want for any reason they want.
Undocumented APIs have that ...er... advantage. You don't need to worry about breaking clients

@KazWolfe we're not using the API (I don't think..)
HTML scraping

5:23 PM
@KazWolfe The chat "API" (there is no such thing) is probably more stable than most stable APIs :P

why... are you... using scrapers...
@Seth There's still a series of documents as to how the hooks work.

isn't the chat "API" scraping anyway? i don't recall seeing an official API

There is no chat API.
@KazWolfe is there? Where's that?

right, so you gotta scrape it anyway

@Seth That's pretty much what ChatExchange is

5:24 PM
@KazWolfe I'm not lol

It documents and exposes what you can get from the hooks (e.g. chat events) -- you still need to scrape for some things like user lists.

we're loading the page with a headless client, then using Jerry and Jsoup to go through it and get the desired elements

@KazWolfe ChatExchange isn't official in any way..
@ByteCommander :D

never said official

is it my imagination or do we not have a canonical question/answer pair for "Why can't my VM on X host see wireless networks or see a connected wireless card" or similar?
i remember a question from 2015 where I answered this, and one recently where I answered similarly, and a handful of others that meet the same criterion
i'm tempted to create a new "Canonical Question/Answer" pair for this...

@ThomasWard feels like we should.. couldn't point you to it though.

@Seth the oldest I remember got my answer, and is this one but it's not exactly OS-version-agnostic IIRC
i created a diagram and everything for it lol

@KazWolfe for?
@Seth Thanks. It's specific to the question being asked though, and doesn't have an all-inclusive answer. Back in 2014, USB Passthrough on VBox was painful
so I never detailed the answer.
In a new canonical answer, I'd have diagrams and pictures for VBox and VMware, but not KVM (because passthrough there is a massive evil pain in the butt)
but meh
