Could anyone test this: askubuntu.com/a/796275/72216 on non-latin? OP obviously has trouble with it in Chinese characters, but not sure if that is the issue.
@JacobVlijm are you sure that you can set metadata::custom-icon ? I am looking at /home/user/Desktop metadata, which has custom icon set for it, but i only see this:
@JacobVlijm OK, here is the issue : your script doesn't change to parent directory icon. Custom icon for subdirectories gets set, but it's all white . . . .
@JacobVlijm also if I may offer a suggesstion, use full path to the folder and images, os.path.abspath() and add single quotes . RHEL website shows gvfs-set-attributes that quotes 'file:///home/user/blah.file'
@JacobVlijm by general folder you mean folder with mixed content ? Um . . . I'd suggest you ask OP about that, post him another comment. And yes, abspath works

... imo... more like too broad than oniony... hardware compatibility issues aren't exactly subjective? like for my x205ta I have no audio drivers, and that's something most folks would want to know about before installing?
AFAIK Apple limits the amount of hardware on which their OS runs, so hardware issue shouldn't be an issue since ages ago - there's plenty of devs and hackers who can make it work. But his main question is : "Can someone who's running Ubuntu on MacBook tell me about his experience with Linux on his Mac machine?" By my definition , that's an opinion. Like , here could be people posting answes like "I have some MacBook and it works for me" and others are going to say "Nope, didn't work for me".
Ah yes indeed, I understand that, thank you for exaplaining. And I totally agree that Q as now should be closed as in theory could attract loads of answers like you say. But not sure they are opinions. Could be like: Generally all works but - wifi does not work on resume from suspend - hibernating causes a kernel panic - brightness and volume keys don't work natively which are facts (though subject to effects of time+hacker ingenuity)
I'm not saying I am right & you're wrong, I'm putting this case as well as I can so you can guide me to learn how to moderate more effectively & appropriately

@terdon oddly enough my sanity is OK , but firefox is not . . . I opened that page just now, and it didn't show the comments , that's why I sort of was like "wut?" After going to my account page and activities tab, and opening that again , it did show the comment. Weird but ok
