@NathanOsman better! Old tape back-up bags!!!
they're plastic with invisible silver mesh!
(and easily cut up)
I still have a few lying around somewhere...
@NathanOsman eh adress is not noted on our driver licenses :P
I still don't see why they can't make an RFID chip that only activates when a button is pressed or something.
@NathanOsman I still have a driver's license valid for life
00:01
@NathanOsman I think they can..
(or until the picture and me start to diverge too much)
@dn-ʞɔɐqɹW I have a class 7 so I have to renew every two years and retake a test.
@Seth You can do that yourself to any RFID chip! (cc @NathanOsman)
@dn-ʞɔɐqɹW not easily..
They'd stop accepting my passport if I opened it up and cut the wires.
@Seth a magnifying glass, a silver wire, some silver solder and you're good to go!
@Seth true! :D
00:03
@dn-ʞɔɐqɹW I'd have to literally cut the page of the passport in half width wise.
OTOH... would they notice you slicing the cardboard of the cover and re-gluing it???
probably..
@Seth I'm not so sure...
besides, they wouldn't know to press the button so I would likely be arrested for faking my PP, or they'd arrest me for tampering with gov. property
They would notice the big red button "press here" though!
:D
@Seth indeed!
00:04
@dn-ʞɔɐqɹW that is easily solved!
@Mateo o/
make it a blue button
@dn-ʞɔɐqɹW install, links to a search in the app store
lots of translating work done today!
hi, @dn-ʞɔɐqɹW
00:05
@Mateo Damn!
Reviewing again!
looks awesome!
(guessed wrong)
@dn-ʞɔɐqɹW what part should i've spoken about myself ?
@Serg I have no clue (any more)
must've been a lame joke...
@Mateo Want me to do British English too?
Also . . . .why aren't you asleep ?
00:10
I woke up again...
Which reminds me: I should get some sleep!
Smoke, sleep and dreams coming up!
Good night everyone!
Thanks, Microsoft.
00:27
@dn-ʞɔɐqɹW If you want ;) I bet there isn't much change
00:48
Thanks. Now when I run it, it doesn't think I have Office installed.
All the registry keys are missing :(
@dn-ʞɔɐqɹW we aren't that different: wakeup, smoke, go to class/work, smoke, eat , smoke some more, maybe fall asleep at work or in class, go home , crash, wake up, freak you because it's 12pm but really 12 am, sleep again
01:01
@Seth there is a book holder that blocks it till you open or take it out
Pho is the most addictive food aside from Cheetos
@Mateo in the passport yeah. Not the drivers license though.
The passport also requires a key to read.
@NathanOsman are you still going to ask that question on Information Security?
I mean buy a RFID blocking wallet
ah. The passport has a shield built in.
but yeah, for the license you'd want a special wallet. I still don't really like the idea of a chip though.
Oh, speaking of chips, those "chip+pin" cards are starting to become a thing in the US. I saw a lady trying to use one today at the supermarket.. except she was putting the card in upside down, chip on the wrong end of the card -.-
oh, is that new that they did the blocking in the passport??
most the places have the readers installed, but taped over... and the others I used were chip only, no pin required...
01:27
@Mateo I don't believe so.
huh, back when I got mine I bought a special extra case for it, don't believe it blocked anything on its own

Anyone here?

Nope :p
Nah
not really
@NathanOsman AHHHHG
AHHHG
AHHHHHHGGG
ANGULAR
I can't find a gif that sufficiently expresses my disapproval.
user139252
? @James
I do not like AngularJS
we gathered that much :P
user139252
Also, can't get any Google Play Music CLI clients working...
04:09
that is unfortunate.
user139252
Couldn't even try thunner, as it wanted to install X on my headless system
user139252
You shouldn't need X for something that runs in CLI
ouch
yeah
do it in a docker container!
then you don't care that it installs X

Q: Trojans found in System32 when scanning my Windows 7 partition, what should I do?

Anti.JoshFirst off, sorry if I shouldn't post questions about Windows in askubuntu, if this is the case then could someone point me to where I should post this question? Today I was scanning my Windows 7 partition with ClamAV and I found a couple viruses, and most of them are located in my Windows direct...

hmmm
Fixing Windows from Ubuntu is on-topic, but this question leaves everything wide open..

what about that one question where Windows didnt have sound after dualbooting Ubuntu?

Q: No audio in windows 10 after setting up dual boot with 15.10

James RichardsonI just set up dual boot with 15.10 on my Dell XPS 13 2015 (9343). I get full audio in ubuntu with no problems, but now I get an error in windows, "No Audio Output Device is installed", and all of the suggested fixes I've found online have failed me so far, any ideas? Thanks, James

05:19
may I point out the breach was caused by Wordpress? :P
@Seth plug-in. a wordpress plug-in. right?
@hbdgaf they weren't that specific :/
If they weren't running really old wordpress, it was a naughty plug-in ;) I was really asking if they were running ancient wordpress.
@Seth Did you see the developing news about the iOS unlock debacle? They can't do an iCloud triggered backup and try to brute/use parts of that, because the County, upon request from the FBI, reset/changed the iCloud password.
I have seen it.. IMO the FBI doesn't really care what's on the device and/or need Apple's help, they just want more power.
05:35
Same old cryptowars. The most amusing comment I heard was that with an iCloud backup/recovery option - they wouldn't be having this argument. So, someone was either REALLY stupid or painted themselves into a corner on purpose to force the issue.
^^ and the chuckle for the day...

08:08
Hi
08:22
@Serg :D
@James So what exactly is it that you don't like about Angular?
09:12
@Mateo You should review the British translation and maybe adapt the original and push the re-translation of some terms. (It's a very liberal translation)
@Seth: thanks for the feed-back. Comment can be deleted now.
@Seth soooooooo now we can use that link when someone claims mint is ubuntu? >:-)
@Rinzwind Good idea! I'm changing my canned Mint answer!
We're sorry, but this site is all about Ubuntu and its official derivatives as posted on wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuFlavors so Mint is off-topic here as well, especially after it got hacked. However, on Unix & Linux, a sister site to Ask Ubuntu, they're very good at all varieties of Linux and Unix, so you might be better off there. ;-)

@Seth I have to disagree with two of your disagreements to my review actions. Please check your comment notification inbox.
Oh, and has anybody a nice free way to transfer a few 100 MB over the internet to a friend for free?
@ByteCommander one off or....
That's not much data
dropbox or gdrive might work
Something without creating an account would be nice. Such as justbeamit.com, but that seems broken.
hmm
btsync?
11:35
It's around 300MB in the current situation, but if it works for more data in the future, that would be nice of course.
Let me duckduckgo that...
and heh
that's a solution to something I needed fixed
You do need software on either side
torrent?
You know whether moving Ubuntu's swap on a USB pendrive would be a good idea?
I say no, but he person who suggested it as answer somewhere disagrees with that and gives Windows ReadyBoost as counter-example:
Really then can you e xplain why windows uses ready boost technology for improving performance. Hope you have answers — Laksith yesterday
@ByteCommander readyboost isn't purely swap tho
Its more of a cache
Yeah, it's similar to how Ubuntu caches disk reads in RAM, right?
But if you have enough RAM and an average fast HDD, it's not much performance gain, right?
11:51
There's one situation where this may be clever
IF you have a very slow hdd. and usb 3.0 and a very fast USB 3.0 SSD thing
ooh
@ByteCommander btsync seems to work. Linux version has a webui with a username and password to get in
I just lazy set it up by sending myself the key for the share using wall ;p

Q: USB only detected when connected to internet

somebodyFor some reason, my laptop does not detect USBs at all unless I am connected to the internet. (I also am not very good at using Ubuntu, so I have no idea what could cause the problem.) Note: I have tried searching, but I am not sure how to get relevant results.

@dn-ʞɔɐqɹW oh, and the translatin files get pulled in and commited daily - for including in the app i just need to grab the files and resubmit to the store - ill try and do that today since we have a good start
15:07
@reversiblean Hello ! :) I could not find this package in wily - the latest package I found is contained in vivid -> packages.ubuntu.com/vivid/amd64/libsystemd-journal-dev/filelist
15:22
this needs deleting: askubuntu.com/a/297054/15811
15:37
@cl-netbox yup .. that's the problem.. thanks anyway :)

Goodbye :)

Nice
Imgur scope?
What does that look like?
lets see
a lot like imigur
the twitter scope is really useful too
user136984
What happened this week in terms of terrorism because I was away for the whole week and missed it all...?
user136984
Was there only one terrorist incident in Turkey?
19:57
oh, lovely. someone left a 1 star because they were usind 16.04 dev on a nexus 5...
that is more your phone and dev version not working than anything to do with the scope...
they need to put supported versions as a prerequisite on stable to rate :/
let's install dev just to see...
huh, now that I think about it, for seeing new stuff I always switch to rc-proposed - I don't think dev is left in very usable states
@Mateo Can you reply to reviews? You could say something like "I'm sorry this app doesn't work for you, but unfortunately you cannot expect scopes to work on development versions of Ubuntu Touch."
nah, but I put a "please use stable" in my own review
I'm going to test to see if there is anything to do, but It might just be the dev has broken stuff - or a framework mismatch, in which case nothing to do till they move over to 16.04 on stable - so far they are still on 15.04 for stable...
I might be able to make a for dev version, upload a second version- but still he left the review where it shouldnt be
I'm still having trouble understanding why someone expects apps to work on a version of UT that's still months away from release.
@Mateo If I had Ubuntu Touch, I'd leave a 5-star review :p
20:11
yeah, it works on rc-proposed - I have that install on the nexus 4 ;) - that is the +1 daily build
My phone does have a temp root at long last (thank you soo much, Kingxteam), so it's one step closer to a bootloader unlock.
16.04dev is like the alpha dumping ground for imports I think for the phone...
I can actually do MultiROM
oh, cool
If the phone wouldn't keep overheating and freezing
I guess the root found a somewhat unstable vulerability
But I'm still really happy that I can do some rooted stuff now, even if I only have about 10 minutes.
20:14
ok, dev r6 here we come
fun
gl hf :p
maybe there is a way to keep it from displaying in a version so far away
@Zacharee1 ice pack?
;P
I would just work at lunch myself - works in a refrigerated place :)
@Mateo :p. It's kind of like having it on 5.0.1 again.
And I don't think it crashes because of overheating
It's something else. The display image freezes, but everything else works
oh, well Ive kept my nexus 5 on kitkat
plus whatever I can put on multirom
the microphone died on it...
How well does MultiROM work in terms of performance?
I know it runs off the SD card, so it doesn't sound very good
But I don't really know the details
20:25
oh, does yours?
it can run on the regular memory too I think
just if you have the room :)
Well I have a locked bootloader, so that doesn't seem possible
ok, installed. and the moment of truth
hm
nothing
lets try another random scope
say the cinema scope
installed...
and - oh look nothing
seems to bee more of a problem with certain scopes
or the general framework
oh, lets try a reboot
bet he rated without trying that :)
woah dev still suffers from the not clean shutdown bug
ohh here is a new bug ;P
20:44
Anyone know of a tool that can read Windows 98 registry (system.dat, user.dat) files?
Out-of-place status bar?
yeah, the whole screen wraps around - still works as expected
Sounds like a Mir / video problem.
strange huh, this is why you dont use dev

user136984

Nice. I crashed VirtualBox.
Guru Meditation -1618 (VERR_PGM_PHYS_PAGE_RESERVED)
What's worse, it's completely 100% reproducible.
user136984
@Nathan: Cool! How did you do it? :)
I try to boot a .vdi from my old Windows 98 box with the Plop Boot Manager.
Not only does it fail, but it causes a guru meditation (VirtualBox's lingo for "error").
user136984
