@Mateo He is right though, that probably lineage does show...

@Mateo stahp pls

I like the new theme

@Mateo I like the colors, but I wonder why they're insisting on rounded corners. On a device where apps are supposed to be full screen or a full half the screen most of the time - it would make sense to not waste cycles/battery for the GPU rounding corners.

@Zacharee1 I see you made an account on my site :p

Q: using left mouse button to move window can cause freeze (XFCE4/Ubuntu 15.10)

user7078I use xfce4 under Ubuntu 15.10. Fairly often some action with my mouse causes the cursor to change into the closed hand icon and my session freezes in a useless state. When this happens the cursor continues to track the mouse, and certain keystroke combinations work (like Alt-Tab or CTRL-ALT-Fn...

user139252
Yeah, no rounded corners for phone apps

I mean, it's not like you have to want to lick the icons on Ubuntuphone ;)

12:28 AM
The system icons are nice

You know what I meant.

Just had a mental picture of someone actually trying that....

12:41 AM
lol, browsing the hot questions

so

How is this still an active question?!?!?!?

@Mateo that's a keypress
@hbdgaf because no one cares?
idk
I didn't know that bots could read images
or did you all flag me? ō_ô
ō_ôō_ô

12:45 AM
@Zacharee1 that's a risk you take when you post images calling someone a f****** donkey.

¯_(ツ)_/¯

I'd have cleaned it up myself but was really too busy to pay much attention. I suggest not doing it again, jest or otherwise.

well yeah

I think it's b/c you posted it twice in rapid succession, and someone pinged it as spam. Not the verbage. Then when someone has attention called to it, they HAVE to take action... not b/c they want to, but b/c it's provable it crossed their screen.

hm

12:51 AM
Oops...

That was me calling it spam...

sigh

With the Monty Pythons...

sp

12:52 AM
Not b/c I was offended, but because you posted it twice...
I just thought it funny at the time posting that.
Sorry!

Well I had to read Macbeth anyway :)

I've gotten a lockout/chat freeze before. It happens to everyone at least once I think...

@hbdgaf what'd you do O_o

Didn't Terdon get it done to himself on purpose once? :P

@NathanOsman I think that was @Serg

12:54 AM
@NathanOsman Possibly.

I once asked to be kicked out of chat to see what it did...

Oh yeah, it was Serg.

Yeah, Serg needed to study...

I'm soon (hopefully) going to have a Docker container with all of the build tools for ARM click packages.

I totally know what that is.... :p

12:55 AM
Docker?

Does that mean we'll get NitroShare for the Ubuntu Phone???

Sort of, but the ARM stuff?

(ARM)

@Zacharee1 I made a comment somewhere that a mod took exception to. Then I had a tigerdirect link that I thought people interested in Ubuphone would find interesting get flagged as spam. So, I drew a probably non-existent connection and started raging. Then, before my kick expired, I had a sock-puppet with enough rep to chat ;)

And the FedEx guy has 5 more minutes before he's officially late.
@Fabby This is a distantly-related project.

12:56 AM
@hbdgaf noice
@NathanOsman Sounds like Comcast!

@Zacharee1 It's a cross-builder. It runs on amd64 hardware but builds for ARM.

Anyway, sleep, keyboard, etc...
Good night all!

nightz

1:13 AM
Well I just BSed (pls no flag) a short essay in ~15 minutes.

@Zacharee1 this is so terribly true.

I thought it might be :p

Uh-oh...

I guess I'm lucky that Comcast isn't in my area(s)
@NathanOsman watwat

docker build doesn't seem to support chroot within containers.

1:15 AM
dun dun dun

This is not good.

Dun Dun Un, the heir to the NK throne :p
For some reason, that's what my spelling error made me think
Look at the tech's shirt in the 1st and 3rd slides @NathanOsman

1:27 AM
Open bug since 2013.

:(
Just be glad it isn't something like Stagefright

At least there was a workaround for that.

3rd party messaging apps you mean?
See if someone has a patch
I still have yet to find out how reading a biography on someone then answering complex questions actually helps me learn Spanish.

@Mateo Recently?

1:39 AM
@hbdgaf That's an ARM container. I'm not sure I follow?

Wasn't your project cross-building?

Not exactly.
I'm trying to run debootstrap in a container.
But debootstrap needs to be able to make the chroot syscall.

A docker instance is essentially its own chroot, so I'm not sure I'm understanding the need.. nm, I get it with the debootstrap thing.

Yeah, I confess it's an unusual scenario.

I'm not sure where that should be solved. Docker or debootstrap. They're both equally valid. I like your dockerized build farm idea though.

@NathanOsman To satisfy both parties, what if you forked debootstrap to have a "hacked" debootstrap that ignored the chroot and built in a docker container with an ignore list?

@hbdgaf That could work as a last resort, perhaps.

It keeps everyone happy, and it doesn't ask anyone to do any work.

@NathanOsman you might be at last resort :P

1:46 AM
We'll see :P
I have a large box of tricks.
I'm still unpacking the box to see what other tricks are in there.

Send me any stickers you find! :p

I was thinking a bit more like this:
But that works too.

Oddly, I'm watching an episode of the pretender that cruxes on illusionists right now XD

@hbdgaf I like the one that has the sparkly thing across but I can never find it

1:52 AM
@Zacharee1 Search Oli's comments for magic. It's in there.

Yay! An upvote for me! *happy dance*
@hbdgaf too much "work"

you need to use Twitter more often :p

People tell me to shut up a lot. I don't twit a lot >.>

Could tweet images of the convos here :p

2:03 AM
That sort of thing is for gems.
krikey that shit is old

yerp. totally happened. i had the most hilarious troll application there. it was fun to laugh about.

ok..

One of those times when a wide net doesn't catch any fish...

eh heheheh

@hbdgaf there's got to be a partitioning joke in there somewhere..

@Seth There's an LVM joke in there too... expand partitions whenever you want without requiring additional resources.

2:16 AM
Anyone seeing something off here:
@hbdgaf @Seth

hmm, I need a program to view old bookmarks sitting around in FF profiles I have backed up.

now:

@Zacharee1 Heh... I find it to be typically more like this youtube.com/watch?v=5I-r3Z_tm7I and a horrifying hangover ;)

okey dokey
that video works
weird
and it's dead again

2:25 AM
@Zacharee1 Heh... nice!!!

Twitter keeps warning me of suspicious sign-ins, but they never tell me from where, so I just end up changing my password. I've changed it so much, that idk what it even is anymore :/

I just stopped caring. Whatever happens happens. It'll be fine in the long term.

Well folks. It looks like I finally have managed to find a service that can't run under CoreOS.
@hbdgaf So sadly monkey-patching debootstrap is just going to be too complex for this.
I'm going to just have to run this outside of a container.

@Zacharee1 turn on two factor.

@NathanOsman :(

2:29 AM
I wonder if LXD has the same limitation...

It doesn't

@Seth I don't think I have it on, and I haven't used Twitter for over a month

@hbdgaf In that case, maybe it's a possible option.
I want the container thing to work but the containers need to be able to run chroot.

I like lxc over docker, but the networking blobs in lxc haven't caught up to the networking blobs in docker.
Just for a hyperbolic bit of humor plus.google.com/+CarlSu/posts/YzebTMwZJJ5

user139252
@Zacharee1 did you get your site worked out?

2:40 AM
@HeatherBrown Still working on a new template I found
@HeatherBrown But I'm uploading what I have right now, so you all can see it

user139252
Home server or remote host?

I'm going with remote host...

remote

@Zacharee1 yeah, I've asked Oli to ban me so that I can do homework :p
@NathanOsman a docker image for ARM ? What's it's going to be all about ?

@Serg Here's a preview: utbuild.quickmediasolutions.com
That's the end results.

2:46 AM
Ah, so it's for Ubuntu Touch . . . I was hoping it's something for Snappy
Meanwhile . . . I've got the new CPU , installed into my friend's Dell and it's now running defragmentation . . . For the record, I still hate windows . . .

Still very much in dev
oh noes!
I took out a section I didn't mean to!
ugh

@Zacharee1 you can delete messages

@Serg wat

@Zacharee1 you said you took out a section you didn't mean to . . .I'm assuming you were talking about that link

Actual website :p
The HTML is really confusing with this template. I had to use an auto-formatter just so I could read it
@Serg

3:03 AM
@Zacharee1 OK . . . that's all i can say at the moment, because i did not get what's that website all about . . .
also is it just me, or all the 3.5 inch hard drives are painfully slow ?

@Serg It will be.
My plan is to support Snappy too.

awesum :D

6.5-hour naptime! (AKA bed)

@Serg its just you.

3:24 AM
@JourneymanGeek i thought so . . . it's weird though, the 2.5 inch drive i had in my laptop works way better on my friend's old HP than 3.5 inch drive it came with
the 3.5 also had win xp on it . . . .vs ubuntu with openbox on 2.5 :)

Split screen isn't laggy anymore!
And windowed mode is so much better

3:45 AM
I think this PC needs hammer massage

Lame - the text editor in Qt Creator doesn't support the horizontal scroll wheel on my mouse.

you sure it's the text editor and not the driver?

4:34 AM
@Serg drives slow down with age and use and many OEM's cheap out with slower drives.

1 hour later…
5:54 AM
@Seth Good question.
The mouse does do horizontal scrolling in the Gimp and Sublime.
So the question is... is this a KDE thing or a Qt Creator thing?
I'm neck-deep in the source code for the Ubuntu SDK Qt Creator plugin, trying to figure out how it invokes the click binary to run applications in the click chroot.
The code is fairly straightforward, but for the life of me I can't figure out where the working directory for the click commands is set.

Morning folks :)

so I backed up my Ubuntu 14.04 (disk to disk) partition onto a external drive. Partition1 is the boot, Partition2 is the where the /home folder is (with lots of room to spare), Partition3 is the swap file, and there is a whole bunch of empty space waiting to be formatted. What I want to do is shrink Partition2 so that I am not wasting all the extra space on the disk, but I want to make sure that I will still be able to boot onto this. Is shriking this partition safe to do?
@A.B. good morning

8:23 AM
@A.B. Good morning to you and good night to me :)

@NathanOsman sleep well =)

I'm going to be dreaming about chroots...

Bad day?

yeah
installing software that is untested by client and has to be live before the 18th
if not live before friday... it's my weekend screwed
and tomorrow I have a day off :-X

10:51 AM
Ouch!
I'm off... Will be back in about an hour or so...

Hey all

@Akiva Just in time!
I was about to be AFK...

heh; whats up?

@Akiva Well, the stupid dupe I did?
;-)
What OS are you on?

No big deal; Their answer is technically better actually

10:54 AM
15.04 or 15.10

16.04
you?

OK, so leave your answer duped to the other one or reverse?
I like STABLE: 14.04.3
:D

ha ha, sec; I'll improve my answer.

The thing is: should I remove my dupe or not? Once I remove it, I won't be able to dupe again and when you agree that their answer is better, then the best thing to do is to leave the dupe in! @Akiva
They're using udev and mention 15.10
So?
(I need to go so have about another 3 minutes.) @Akiva

sorry had to reconnect. I'm an ignoramous to the significance to Udev, as I am not a sysadmin. Personally, I'd rather see "possible answer also here:" sort of thing.
What do you think?

10:59 AM
@Akiva edit the new answer and link to yours???
Possible!
OK, I'll do that, leave the dupe in place and it'll need an additional 4 votes from 4 other reviewers to close as a dupe anyway...
;-)

Well; leave them both up, and comment that a possible answer exists in the Kubuntu Question.

link to each other?
OK, I got to go: you edit both and link to each other.

Fair enough?

I'll now go and remove my duplicate then
@Akiva yes! ;-)

Thank you. I appreciate it.
/me loves ubuntu community~

11:02 AM
@Akiva also: clean up the comments below your question...
now they''re talking to a ghost!
:P ;-)
Gone! Bye!

sure, and I made the edit

Q: Can one not search for unregistered users?

Paranoid PandaI recently was trying to find the profile of this guy, and I was searching and searching on the users page but I couldn't find anything... I hesitate who to give the bounty to at askubuntu.com/questions/718446

@NicolasRaoul you have already have so many bounty already, why hesitate ? :)

One person made a lot of effort with lots of explanations and screenshots so I promised him the bounty... but in fact his answer probably does not work.

@NicolasRaoul then dont give bounty but a thanks

Oh yeah I will attribute it but strictly comparing now, andrew.46's answer probably works better.

bounty is a sign of great answer

2:31 PM
it looks like a great answer because it contains screenshots and a lot of explanations. But the procedure described does not solve the problem.

it does not matter how fancy is the answer but how helpful it is

Can anyone help me troubleshooting a PPTP VPN connection failure?

sorry, never done it, but I can help you quake it!

Very informative.

haha, send this error to red hat :D

they are the one who made it
it = NetworkManager

Am I wrong or the Main site's sidebar and the Meta site's sidebar (those with the "Hot Meta Post" etc sections) used to be synchronized once? Or they've always been out-of-sync?

2:57 PM
@kos maybe you are wrong :P

kos
@edwardtorvalds Yeah I'm starting to suspect that, maybe I just never noticed them being out-of-sync till now.

they are in sync to me
try clearing your browser cache?
