aptana studio was okay, but it cried on really large stuff. try loading the metasploit project as an aptana ruby project.

it's just a fancy text editor like anything else. i really tweaked eclipse at one point to have an embedded terminal and aptana plugin for python/ruby, but it's really not worth the time to beat it in to shape.

A couple things to note about VMWare - it absolutely will not run when Hyper-V is installed.

And the free version forbids commercial use.

(That might not be a problem for you, but it was a problem for me.)

Yeah, it's not very obvious - VMWare will just refuse to start. Apparently something Hyper-V does when Windows starts interferes with the VMWare hypervisor.

and revamping my network. got a pfSense firewall on the edge, and working on getting the wireless access point now

is redoing his network to be a lot more efficient with higher throughput internally, and with slightly higher externally :)
