i have a long hard road installing linux on my new lappie. it has ssd for cacheing, intel video, and possibly a hybrid card although i'm not sure on that last one. it's going to be hellish to get it working, but i'm sure it will be worth it

Hi, I have a small doubt. I am installing a .deb package in debian via the command line like this: dpkg -i some-package.deb. The I get a 'package not installed' error, 'cause the dependencies are missing. To fix this, I ran sudo apt-get install -f. Now do I have to run dpkg -i some-package.deb again, or no?

@its_me if apt-get install -f installs the dependencies without deinstalling your some-package then you dont need to redo the dpkg -i some-package. Look more closely at the output of apt-get install -f to see what it is doing.

if you don't have unlimited broadband don't buy anything from blizzard. they went more oppressive than steam on offline play recently (diablo3)

first i paid for an optical disk and had to download the whole thing. then i find out that you need an active high-speed connection to play (i have an active connection, but it's slow). then i find out that the game is just eye-candy and quests on diablo 2. just saying...so not worth it. i won't be buying a blizzard game again since it's less tedious to pirate than it is to buy even if i buy it.

when i pirate a game i bought so i can play it offline, you're doing DRM wrong.

but had problems with it, so reverted back to xubuntu

after a week or so of having reverted and everything being ok

You would search for xfce and xfce4 and see if there are any packages that look important not installed.

and then when i try to log out again

i get an error that it cant talk to the session manager and still wont log out

i noticed that if i try to run this:

Well im pleased to say after unbinding alt-ctrl-home from 'fanny about with workspaces'

and then binding it to 'rhythmbox-client --play-pause' in a different bit of admin/settings ui

i finally got music play/pause to work!
