Anyone know what hash -r does? I tried man hash but i didnt see the -r option. I read this: -r Reset (causes the shell to forget all remembered locations) on a website, but I dont know what that means
I got curious about the Mortarboard badge (200+ rep in one day) today and took a peek at several awardees' profiles to see what I could learn from their high score answers. I discovered that for a few (links withheld to avoid the appearance of spitefulness but available upon request), the rep poi...
After a ton of discussion, work and input from the community, we're rolling out the remainder of major closing changes that you've helped us design, as discussed in these prior posts.
They're live on Meta today, and will likely roll out to the rest of the network sometime next week.
The clos...
lol ill gotten badges? the necessity for badges to gain site functionality will drive the desire to cheat and gain them. how many badges Do i need to gain all the site functionality? 300 seems like a good number
@shog9 how can you have "too broad" without a corresponding "too narrow"? Under these rules couldn't you ask a programming question that can't possibly help anyone but you, like Joel's mythical "there's a car parked outside my house" except "there's a recursive function parked outside my house"? — Jeff Atwood5 hours ago
I'm looking for causes of a particular problem in kern.log. There are many entries with a 00:00:00 timestamp:

I recently upgraded to Xubuntu 13.04 from 12.10, which required uninstalling and reinstalling VMWare Player for Linux. Soon after (not exactly sure the timing) I lost network connectivity on my host Xubuntu machine.
Here is my ifconfig:

sorry. i wish i could help on ffserver stuff. i think it's really interesting and would make lots of great commercial projects that could make money. sadly my internet connection is not conducive atm
this is the google dork i would read all the answers from: 'ffserver webm black stream'
if/when i get hughesnet, i may be able to help more
i'm downloading an offline crack for d3 since i paid my 30 pieces of silver and i just want to play it offline. on ffserver, i'll check for a working config with my webcam if it's any help. webm seems like a good format, but it also seems finicky since it's niche
I want to backup mysql databases to another new server. I don't want to use mysql replication and mysqldump for backup as they are using higher cpu and higher i/o on server. I tried mysqlhotcopy to send databases files to another server into /var/lib/mysql/database but after backup new server s...
When i try using wget command, the page which gets downloaded contains only the lefthand side part. I want the right-hand side part of the search-results page, which is called Knowledge Graph. Can anybody help me out in this please,..
@mojo706 1 is single user. it used to be that 2,3,4,5 were for varying levels of functionality, but people wanted things to be retarded so it got eliminated. init 6 is still reboot though.
post something in the UL room if that's what you're on about. writing scrapers is fine, but asking for one that does something specific for free is just silly...
if you have an AU account you can just link the accts. it's not tedious
@mojo706 cool beans. at least it's working. looks like you just needed a reboot after driver update.
i have a long hard road installing linux on my new lappie. it has ssd for cacheing, intel video, and possibly a hybrid card although i'm not sure on that last one. it's going to be hellish to get it working, but i'm sure it will be worth it
oh and win8 uefi crap
i wonder if my touchscreen is going to work in the ubuntu side of things
LOL but I must say Ubuntu looks simply and feels simply amazing on Ultrabooks. Document the steps you follow so that if it works you help others. I don't know about touch though.
This is a similar question to my previous one.
I now am trying to get Backtrack5 onto a separate partition of my main hard drive with windows but the site says that I need a clean hard drive. Is there anyway around this?
When investigating how the DNS setup of my os (Ubuntu 12.04) works, I came to some questions I could not really find on the web.
So what I observed was, that ubuntu uses Dnsmasq as a DNS resolver.
When loooking into /etc/resolv.con, 127.0.1.1 is listed as nameserver.
So the question here is, if...
Hi, I have a small doubt. I am installing a .deb package in debian via the command line like this: dpkg -i some-package.deb. The I get a 'package not installed' error, 'cause the dependencies are missing. To fix this, I ran sudo apt-get install -f. Now do I have to run dpkg -i some-package.deb again, or no?
Ubuntu 12.04
By a mistake, I stopped lightdm. Then switched to tty1, and rebooted.
Now, After startup, It just came a black screen with a cursor, can type nothing.
I tried Ctrl+F1 to F12 (and Ctrl+Alt+F1 to F12), nothing works.
There might be something wrong with X server (Because I cannot type...
@its_me if apt-get install -f installs the dependencies without deinstalling your some-package then you dont need to redo the dpkg -i some-package. Look more closely at the output of apt-get install -f to see what it is doing.
if you don't have unlimited broadband don't buy anything from blizzard. they went more oppressive than steam on offline play recently (diablo3)
first i paid for an optical disk and had to download the whole thing. then i find out that you need an active high-speed connection to play (i have an active connection, but it's slow). then i find out that the game is just eye-candy and quests on diablo 2. just saying...so not worth it. i won't be buying a blizzard game again since it's less tedious to pirate than it is to buy even if i buy it.
when i pirate a game i bought so i can play it offline, you're doing DRM wrong.
I have a raring ring-tail server, which I want to stream video from an attached USB webcam.
I have followed this guide to install ffmpeg, ffserver, and numerous codecs.

I have an Ubuntu 12.04 server set up on AWS EC2. I'm trying to configure Railo to use Simple Email Service (SES) via an SMTP call (see "Sending Email with the new SMTP Support for Amazon SES" for specifics). I've gone through the SES steps to verify senders/receivers and applied the relevant code...
I found the reason and a way to fix it. If you want to have the answer here, reopen the question. I will post it as soon as the question reaches +5 votes. — arney12 hours ago
